I may be alone here, but I feel like January 2011 couldn't be farther away. Even though I know it's not that far away. Having a long engagement is driving me crazy!! I'm at 290 days as of today, but I just want it to be here now! Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I'm just sick of wedding planning. All I want to do is marry my FI!! Any of you other bees feel this way?
Hey Date Twin!!! YES!!!!!!!! I completely feel your pain. I know it's going to fly by and this time next year we'll be saying "Holy crap--I'm married already?!" But for right now I feel like it's SO far away. I'm at that point right now where I feel like it's far enough away that I don't want to do too much but at the same time I want to be as prepared as I can. Haven't so much done anything this month yet though :/ Just picked out the design of our invites and the paper. Haven't finished wording or even ordered the paper yet...oops...
I"m Feb 2011 so I totally get it. I'm 2 days away from 11 months... seems like foooooooorever
@KansasPrincess - It's just so hard to think about this time next year because it seems forever away! I get so sick of hearing "you've got plenty of time" or "January...like NEXT year?" It gets old. I'm at the same point you are. I am being too lazy to get started on anything major because I keep telling myself I have plenty of time. I've got all my vendors reserved except DJ and I can't reserve reception venue until May so I haven't really done anything this month. I'm picking out BM dresses April 10th. Gah, 9 months. It disturbs me that someone could conceive a child and give birth to it before my wedding even arrives haha. It's too far away!!
CorgiTales - I hear ya! 9 months sucks too. I feel like I won't feel like it's close until it's under 6 months or so. Long engagements suck! lol
I am with you all 100%!!! Sometimes it feels like the wedding is so far away! All I really want is to be with my FI right now! It makes it worse that he is states away from me right now! I can't wait until we are not only living in the same state but in the same house! While I've been able to get a lot done, some days I'm just not in the mood to plan the wedding!! I just want to be married already!! I hate it that people keep saying to me, "You've already got so much done but you have such a long time to wait!" I have booked all the vendors but the florist and we are in the process of signing a contract with her. I keep putting off doing things. I started our DIY invites but haven't worked on them in over a month.
People keep telling me "It will be here before you know it!" All I can say to that is... I HOPE SO!
@TP to Bee: People say the same thing to me.
Also, when I tell people that I am getting married on NY Day they ask, "This New Years"? lol Duh, NY 2010 has passed.
@TP to Bee - Wow, I can't imagine living in different states! I'm with you, I can't wait to live in the same house as him! Our schedules are so different now I hardly even see him, so it'll be nice once we're married to see him every day, even if it's only for 5 minutes! lol And I hate when people say "it'll be here before you know it" too, it's easy for them to say, they're not as anxious as we are!!
@Trugem - People do that to me too!! Not about the NYD wedding, but I always get "January of NEXT year? Why so long?!" They say it with such shock and it really bothers me, because technically my wedding is only 8 days into next year haha. And duh, this January is already gone!
i think i might be the only january 2011 bee who doesn't feel like it's super far away! my FI is a commissioned officer in the air force and will deploying overseas on june 1st and returning december 1st. by the time he gets back, we'll have 6 weeks left before our big day! we've been trying to get lots checked off our list (with the help of our wonderful wedding planner!) before he deploys, but i have to say, knowing i have so much left to do will help make the 6 months with his absence go a little faster. when people ask us why the long engagement, we happily tell them we were thrilled to have a little extra time to plan while FI is deployed instead of rushing to get married before he leaves.
@hsearle - You'll be very busy! But you're right, having so much to do while he's gone will take your mind off of him being gone. Good luck with everything!!
@nurselindsey thank you! i like to stay busy, so i think wedding planning might be the perfect distraction ...
I've been REALLY slacking, my semester of class isn't as hard as last semester but with my internship I have less "me" time and so wedding plans are taking a backseat for right now. I'll have all summer so hopefully I'll not be overwhelmed then. Anyone have big planning-plans for April? I'm still waiting to hear back from caterers...we have most of the big stuff taken care of: photographers, ceremony venue, reception venue, florist, cake, invitations...so now I guess it's the little things that are going to add up FAST. Yikes. Maybe I shouldn't be putting this off...I guess we'll see, maybe everyone will be right and I will feel like this year flew right by ;)
@KansasPrincess- No big plans for April, really. I'm picking out my BM dresses next Saturday and getting their measurements, so I'm really excited about that! I've got my caterer, ceremony venue and photographer. I know where I'm having my reception but I spoke with them today and I can't book them until July 1st, but I know that's where I'm having it. I've chosen my DJ and videographer, just have to make the deposits on them. I've got a TON of little things left to do, the list of those things overwhelmes me haha. It's going to be an eventful summer for us all, that's for sure!
Ok, this could totally be just me but doesn't the fact that it's not until 2011 mess with any of you? I feel like if the wedding were even like December 31st it would feel so much closer, but something about making that jump to 2011 that feels so much further away? Perhaps I'm just crazy...
@nurselindsey: What do your BM dresses look like? I'm letting my girls pick theirs out so I don't really know a thing about them until they pick them out and I "ok" them :)
@beth1125: I know! Yes, the change in the year really does make it seem different! We're 9 months away and when I say that it seems SO close, but when I say "Jan. 8, 2011" it feels like it's FOREVER away haha!

@KansasPrincess - Here are the ones we chose this past weekend, except they will be in a light/pale sorta wintery blue color. I love them!

That's our BM dress! It will be in navy though, with an ivory sash. I really love it and it was SO flattering on all 6 bridesmaids! Luckily, we found it for a much cheaper price online than it was in the store. (About $70 cheaper!)
Now I can post in here because we have a real, honest to goodness, official date!!!!

I totally don't feel like it's forever away. I have so much to do and we just changed our minds on a bunch of stuff that we have to update people on soon.
@beth - I LOVE your BM dress. I think navy and ivory will look beautiful together. & Yay for finding good deals!

I finally had my first "your wedding isn't in the distant future" moment today when our church called. We are getting married in our hometown but are both in college an hour away so we're doing our marriage prep classes down here and apparently we need to send something to our hometown church saying that. We need to do it "in the next two weeks" and she's "sorry she hadn't called sooner" because when she "saw that date" she knew she better get on it!
- I realize that's not terribly exciting but it's THE FIRST time someone hasn't said "oh well you have plenty of time" YAYY!
@Beth: Oh I love that! It IS exciting to hear that!! I haven't yet ;) We did have our first meeting w/our officiant on Monday.
@Beth - I know what you mean! The other day someone actually said to me "Wow, your wedding is coming up quick. Not much longer to go!" I was so excited because, like you said, it's the first time someone hasn't said "You've got plenty of time" or something like that. Haha.
@kansasprincess11 -- we are starting our marriage counseling, too! hard to believe we're already getting those major things checked off our list!
we picked out our bridesmaids dresses a few weeks ago, did 2 of our registeries last week and now onto rehearsal dinner location, DJ and doing our cake tasting in May! with FH deploying june 1, we're trying to get a lot of the major things done before he jets (no pun intended) off. super fun!
what are you ladies doing for florals for january? our colors are pewter grey, sapphire blue & eggplan purple and doing a very 'wintery' minnesota wedding. i want really soft, white flowers. i was thinking for centerpeices doing some with white flowering dogwood or pussy willows. thoughts or ideas?
@hsearle - I haven't really decided on floral stuff yet. I really like hydrangeas and calla lilies. For centerpieces, I'm still debating on whether or not I should go the floral route, or use manzanita branches. I keep going back and forth!
@nurselindsey -- i know, it's probably still a little early to be thinking about flowers & centerpeices, but dang it, i can't help it! :) i love love flowers, but since winters in minnesota are so ... white, i feel like i want something that will really echo that wintery feeling. i love manzanita branches! they would be beautiful in an arrangement with white hydrangeas or by themselves with hanging tea light candles!
@hsearle- It's not too early! I actually feel behind haha. I love them too but I just can't decide what I want. I bet a Minnesota winter is beautiful. I'd love to experience one because Alabama winters are, well not much like winter lol. I've thought about doing manzanita branches spray painted white with glitter in a vase with the crystal gems, or something like that, but I don't know for sure. I need to get a move on it!
@nurselindsey -- they are so beautiful! if you like snow and cold weather! i am hoping for the perfect january day -- clear blue skies, fresh white snow on the ground and no wind. here's hoping! when you get closer to picking your flowers, do share your ideas!

I am still very new to the idea that I'll be married in January, since I got engaged exactly 2 weeks ago:) I started to look for my dress and venue, and knowing I have less than 9 months to go makes me very happy and a little nervous...
@windybee congrats on your engagment! don't be nervous! you might feel a little overwhelmed, but this is a great community to go to for ideas, advice & support! we're all here to help :)
@windybee: We are date twins! I think 9 months is plenty of time to plan a wedding so don't stress. I am pretty much down planning everything and I started in Jan. Trust me, it will be okay.
@windybee: Congrats! Welcome to the board, you'll find we all have ideas coming out are ears ;)
@hsearle: I'm going to be using some pretty Christmas-ey colors but doing everything I can to make it not seem like the Christmas fairy threw up all over the venue ;) The red will be darker than candy-cane red, shades of ivory and soft pinks (to both fight the christmas theme and make me happy because I love all things pink).
Flowers will be some hydrangea, some calla lillies, roses, and lots of things I can't pronounce :) My florist is unreal, seriously. If you need inspiration check out her blog:

@kansasprincess11 wow! your florist is dynamite! beautiful blog, too. i will definitely be scoping out some ideas from there. thanks for the link! i love the idea of the deep, rich reds & some of the pinks to off set the christmas feeling. i think it sounds gorgeous! can't wait to see pictures :)

Hello again ladies! I've been taking a break from weddingbee recently! Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed with all the things to do and all of thing things I am not doing!! I feel so behind b/c I haven't been doing things the past month!
I can't wait to have the "not long now!" comments! I haven't had any yet!
I'm still in the middle of working on a lot of things! My BMs are picking their own dresses, I just choose David's Bridal, red, and long! Going through booking our honeymoon. We will pick out the guys' outfits once the FI comes home. He is still in school in Ohio while I am in Chicago. It makes wedding planning hard!
As far as flowers go... I have a friend who actually does wedding flowers and she is doing mine! I've been thinking about mine for a while so don't worry about it! Its not too early! Here is what my bouquet will look like. Just imagine it with pretty crystals in it too!
