That's AWESOME! I've been looking for a 50's dress...where'd you find yours if you don't mind me asking?
Thast awesome! My grandma just gav me her dress to wear...its from 1946. I need to make some alterations though to get it to fit right. Do you have pics?
I am trying to find this dress which has a vintagey feel, I am thinking of having it made....
chicky, that's so beautiful. I love the fifties era skirt - or at least what I imagine that era to look like!
i live in toronto & I got it at "A Vintage Bride", downtown in Mirvish Village.
Cher is a DREAM to work with & i highly reccomend making an appnt with her if you are close. There are so many gorgeous dresses & she is super knowledgedable and fair with her prices. I left so happy & even went back to pick up a bird cage veil from her!
It's still being altered at the seamstress, but I'll post pictures with I can!
jduck84- thanks!! The only problem is its from an australian designer that doesn't offer their styles in the US, that I can find anyhow. I've tried to find it pre-worn, since it is a little out of my price range...but I am hoping to just have it made. It is ballerina-length which leaves just enough room to rock a bad a** pair of shoes!!!
for those looking for vintage dresses
1. first check if your city has an local vintage dress stores
2. check etsy
3. check online vintage clothing stores (like www.poshgirlvintage.com) many have sections devoted to wedding attire. i browsed a lot & saw many beautiful wedding dresses!
also it helps if you pick an era you are particularly drawn to. For me it was 1950s/1960s, but some adore the 1920s look, or there's always the 1970s !
Theres also many online boutiques that do fantastic vintage reproductions or vintage "inspired" dresses. (www.unique-vintage.com)
I have two vintage dresses. I bought them offline and they were not right for me. One needs a new zipper. One needs to be cleaned.
if anyone wants them, let me know... If you pay shipping and want the hassle of getting them to a cleaner or fixing the zipper let me know.
the first is this one...but in ivory/white it was clean and like pictured but came with broken zipper.
and didn't look good with my full hips.
the second is this:
http://www.poshgirlvintage.com/1950s-white-strapless-chiffon-long-gowndress-p-1124.html
it looks gorgeous in the picture, but it is TINY more like a 1/3/5
It needs a good good cleaning. It came and looked almost grey. I was really really disappointed with that site.
If anyone wants them let me know
I would not feel right selling them as they are not worth it with the fixes needed and I felt let down getting them and wouldn't want to do that
aw! i'm sorry for your bad experiences! I would definetely complain to the site. The image they give off on their website really seems like they would clean the dresses & take better care in customer service.
I still urge brides to check out etsy sellers! Etsy is a great group of people and I know many brides who have found their vintage dresses through it!
Almostduffy, I messaged you. I am in love with the second dress. I'm so sorry you weren't happy with either one!
