Yeah miss bear cub! I lived in Portland for many years so I've been following your posts with much anticipation! I would love to move back to P-town but my fh keeps saying "there are too many hippies there" and all I can do is laugh because I know who he's marrying!
I'm not really hippie, but I did see that you are in Flag- lucky! I miss that town terribly!
Lemondrop- are you from Flag? I've only been here two years, so I'm still getting used to it. I moved here from Oregon, so it's taken awhile to get used to this climate. I'm used to constant rain and tons of humidity. I refer to summers here as "scabby nose season" because no matter how much water I drink I'm still dehydrated. Where are you in Az?
I'm in Chandler now, not enough jobs in our field for us to stay in Flag otherwise we would be there in a heartbeat. I spent all summers, school breaks, and college there. I really miss the easy going atmosphere (hippy-ness) and being able to drive 10 minutes and be out in the woods. It definitely is different from Portland, but as close as you can get in AZ! I guess growing up in a constant state of dehydration, I've never noticed it much, lol.
lol, my fi's from kingman, and he has no clue what I'm whining about when "scabby nose season" rolls around. Hopefully things will change someday and you guys can come back here!
"hippie" bride here! phish's "waste" will be playing while the grandparents & parents are being seated. :)
I'm a "hippie" bride! My dress consultant even jokingly (I think) asked me if I was planning on walking down the aisle barefoot! I'm not but I've always been the free spirit of my friends, and now our wedding is going to be just down the road from the commune where my parents lived before I was born and where I went to elementary school, or Hippie School, as my friends call it....whooohoo!
Your wedding sounds a lot like mine! I feel like our venue is kind of perfect for it though because it's a mansion-type venue on the top of a hill and there are trees for miles.
Well I am definitely hippie (I am probably your mother's age) but I am wearing a vintage dress for the wedding. Does having the processional song Nothing Else Matters by Apocalypta count? My BMs are wearing braja dresses for the wedding and I am wearing a braja dress to the post-wedding pig roast.
I don't consider myself a hippy but I'm definitely a free spirited tattooed bride!
Not really a hippie, but trying to sort of convey that "feeling" through our picnic wedding! =)
@northernazbride, I totally was hippie chic until I started my real job and had to get a haircut and wear heels. I actually spent a few weeks in Flag with a friend that went to school there for a time and LOVED it. My city has more of an indie/alternative vibe, but I like to think I hold my own as a nature loving hippie. :)
Our wedding is outdoors and feels very rustic. My FI also brings clean lines and a modern feel to things, but he appreciates my organic, woodsy elements.
i consider myself an urban hippie:-) everyone else calls me a free spirit!
Right on sisters! I hadn't checked this thread again until just now. It's good to see there are other hippie brides on weddingbee!
right here! it's been a bit of a challenge to carry the look over for my two maids of honor. but that's my style to the end, and i want that represented with the whole look of the wedding. thank god for etsy and ebay for vintage accessories. i think they were a little scared when i texted them saying "think nicole richie for your look!" haha
I am completely representing as well!! My mom calls me a free spirit who dances to her own drum. I love it. She always says that I should've been born in that era.
<3
Haha, my mom and my fiance call me a hippie, but the only thing I really can claim is having gone to Bonnaroo twice. I do "dance to my own drum" while my FI is more like northernazbride's -- organized, type A, classic style. Opposites attract!
Not a hippie exactly, I'd classify myself as more of a granola. But a definite outdoor/nature lover.
Haha. I wrote a post abt this, but maybe I should have just posted here! What are you ladies using for your readings? I was looking for something inspirational, abt peace, the world, etc. Any ideas?
FI and I both have a hippie streak for sure... We've both toned it down a bit since we first met, but still, "Waste" by Phish is our first dance song :)
Barefooted, tree hugging, tattooed, goofball, organic-eating bride here!
Our wedding has a lot of hippie elements to it. It reflects our values. We are serving mostly vegetarian, organic & locally grown food. We also not "overfeeding" our guests either. All our vendors are local small business owners and many of them couples. My dress is simple and silhouettey and I plan on wearing my hair down with some flowers in it. We are using handpicked flowers instead of expensive, imported ones. We have a wedding website in place of sending out lots of paper. Everything really reflects our simple tastes is and not about going over the top or being extravagant. Our rings are nice, simple and inexpensive (coming in at $1500 for all including e-ring!) We are doing donations instead of favors. We are staying local for our honeymoon.
FI and I are definitely hippies at heart but you wouldnt know it from looking at us.
Yes, i'm not sure you'd get it by looking at us, but we are too. I have always walked to the beat of my own drum, haha.
I'm more of a closet hippie, in that no one really expects it from me until they get to know me waaaayyyyy better. I'm comfortable dressing up and love a beautiful pair of high (or heck, even low, I'm not picky) heels, but you'll often find me with a crystal or two on my person somewhere nevertheless. LOL. And I'm just as comfortable in jeans, tshirts, and a comfortable pair of flipflops with my hair blowing in the breezes.
Hey everyone,
So, I found this topic after I had posted in another forum. I am wondering if anyone has an advice where to look for a bohemian/hippy/fairy/casual style dress? I can't seem to find anywhere! I am hoping for a shorter dress, in a natural color like beige, or something. I am concidered a "clean modern hippy". Haha. We are going to be barefoot in the desert so when I read that post I had to laugh.
Can I see some of these hippie dresses? I am considered a hippie for sure, but I don't think my dress is hippie style. My sister actually told me my fiance and I are "rich hippies" lol. I wish I had the money she thought we did. LOL. I was going for a more earthy look with my dress but I don't see it so I am trying to incorporate some earthy elements. I would love to see other dresses for inspiration on how to tie my looks together :)

ha ha, I use the term loosely. When I think of hippies I think of the pictures of my mom in 60's with her knit poncho, long hair and love beads. Damn, she was so cute. I definitely did my fair share of partying and touring when I was younger and I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything in the world... but these days I feel much more grown up and although I now shave, brush my hair, where nice(er) clothes and have a real job, there is still that restless, uncoventional nature-loving goddess inside me that I have seen coming out during this whole wedding planning process. I love the way our wedding has become a reflection of the two of us- we couldn't be more different on the outside, but on the inside we truly are kindred spirits. Our wedding is organized, with clean lines and classic elements (him) but it's also rustic, organic and has spontenous elements as well (me). It's cool. So are there any other hippie girls out there in wedddinbee world?
