Hi - I am planning a wedding in Garrison, NY in August 2009. I'm originally from Dutchess county, but live in Massachusetts now. I would love to find other Hudson Valley brides!
Westchester is technically the lower Hudson Valley, I'm getting married in White Plains this September. I looked at some places in Garrison though (and when I was younger, we almost moved there). Where is your wedding going to be?
I'm getting marrited in Poughkeepsie in June 2009 but I live in NYC! I've been looking at the NYC board for ideas, but the hopefully I will be able to find some great ideas here too!
Hi!! I'm originally from the Orange County area... but my parents live near Poughkeepsie now. I'm getting married at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. So far that's the only thing I've booked so I need to start finding some other venues in the area. How are your wedidng plans going?
The Grandview is fabulous! My friend was married there September 07 and I was so impressed. Everything is the facility is new and the views were great.
I have a refundable deposit down at Osborn Castle, but my fiance is going to check it out at the end of the month so we can confirm it's really the place (we live in Massachusetts now, but I grew up in Dutchess County).
I am going to get my engagement and wedding photos done through www.ericalynphotography.com. I love her photojournalist style and she's reasonably priced! She's based out of NYC.
I still have to find a caterer - if anyone has any suggestions of people they know are good I'd love to hear them.
I'm so glad you liked the Grandview! I was pretty much sold on it after we looked at a couple of other older places without such a great view and then the saw the Grandview which is brand new and has the best views!
The photographer looks great! That is my next goal... find a photographer :-)
I don't know much about caterer's since my venue has that all included, but If I hear any good reviews I'll let you know!
My favorite pick has to be my DOC, Sarah Lusardi. I know she is going to make these last few weeks and the day of so much less stressful. She is actually from the area originally, but that wasn't how I found her, just a fluke. She went to the Garrison a few weeks ago to meet with Todd and get a handle on the layout, which I thought was quite proactive of her.
Photographer - Dave Cross. He did our engagement photos and we loved his laid back style - and the pics came out great! There was one photographer that does a lot of shots at the Garrison whose photos I liked, but he wasn't super accomodating about meeting with us, so we just went with Dave (who has not been up there yet). Dave recommended Steven Taub as a videographer - I picked him because he was reasonable and I have heard it is important to have the photog and videographer get along.
Makeup - Sally Duvall - lots of posts about her on this website. She doesn't charge for travel, and I got her full day package (I have a lot of BMs). She came to my apt. for the trial (included in the Day of) and I think she did a great job!
Hair - Zena Dixon. She also came to my apt for the trial and tried a ton of styles until we found one I liked. Very cool, getting married herself in a year or so. www.redcarpetbridalbeauty.com She charges per person, and is bringing an extra stylist along since we have so many people. I think her website is a bit confusing. I don't believe she is charging us for travel (she lives in NJ).
I'll let you know in a month or so what I think of them AFTER the big day!
I am from Orange County as well but getting married at Crystal Springs Golf Resort in Hamburg, NJ on November 1st. I got most of my vendors out of NYC and OC so if anyone needs some referrals, let me know. The one photographer I lost out on that I HIGHLY recommend is www.jamesferrara.com He might be a little pricier than some of the others but I promise you will not be disappointed. Congrats to everyone!
Sure! The other thing about a Garrison wedding is that the lodging options are not the best. Some great B&Bs but for hotels you have Fishkill corporate park hotels (although the new Sierra Hotel is really nice inside!) and the WEst Point Thayer, which is kind of run down. The Garrison only has 4 rooms but I have heard rumors they might be building a bigger hotel onsite sometime in the near future....
We are having our RH dinner at the Hudson Highlands Golf Club. I love their venue, but it was too small for our wedding - but if the weather is good we are having the RH BBQ dinner on the lawn and it should be great!
We got some good rates at the Sierra Hotel - they are maybe 10% less than normal - so not great, but I think it is pretty reasonable. I think the hotel is now sold out the night of our wedding so make sure to get a block and have your guests reserve early if it will be a popular weekend!
Also make sure to check the schedule for West Point graduation if you are thinking May because the hotels are impossible then!
Thanks Janna - it looks like I'll be getting married next August - so hotels won't even quote me a rate since they only work 11 months in advance.
The pictures of the golf club were beautiful, but definitely too small for me as well...I'm looking at around 225. I have a refundable deposit down at Cat Rock/Osborn Castle, but my fiance hasn't seen it yet (he will next weekend when we're in town).
Yep. They are much more expensive than I thought they were - probably because of gas. But I just don't feel comfortable having an open bar and then having guests drive home on dark windy roads.
BTW, the Garrison holds up to 220 I think if you want to check it out. Todd is the new event manager there and he is really fabulous. And the food and view are amazing!
Which shuttle bus company did you go with? The coordinator at Cat Rock recommended Westchester Coach.
I'm looking to do an outdoor tented wedding reception so that's why I am most likely going with Osborn Castle. The views are amazing as well. Gotta love the Hudson Valley!

I definitely agree about the hotels - I think Fishkill will be where most people stay. Were you able to get any good rates?
posted by Farley778 19 posts 5 months agoIt holds 130. Its a pretty nice building.
