So Radiohead is a HUGE part of our relationship, in fact they’re the reason we even came together in the first place. This band means a lot to both of us, so naturally I’m going to fit Radiohead in at just about every chance I can for our wedding, without being obnoxious.
Considering the music isn’t exactly happy or upbeat in most cases, it’s a little tricky… but I’ve decided to use a string quartet from the university to play covers of Radiohead for guests being seated for ceremony, processional/recessional, and during the ceremony. (Programs will also have the “Meeting People is Easy graphic) A few better actual recorded songs during cocktail hour and dinner (the kind you won’t really notice unless you’re listening), and that’s about it.
Anyone else a fan, or use Radiohead in your wedding at all? I realize it’s a niche market, but there’s got to be some others like me out there 🙂
How did you use your favorite band/artist in your day?

My FI lovesssss radiohead, and I despise it. (sorry) But I’m going to surprise him and play it while he’s standing waiting for everyone to calm his nerves.

Oh that’s an excellent surprise!! He’s going to love that. Do you know which song(s) you’re going to go with?
And I’m not at all offended – I don’t know of anyone who “only kinda likes” Radiohead- either you’re deeply in love or really can’t stand this band. 🙂

LOVVVVE RADIOHEAD! I think your ideas are great!

I “only kinda like” Radiohead — there are songs I love and songs I really don’t like at all. My FI loves them, though.
I think Radiohead played by a string quartet would be amazing! Most of my favorite bands are not at all wedding-appropriate, so I probably won’t be able to fit them into the day.

Radiohead has grown on me–I was in the “kinda like” phase for a while, but this year, it just went “kaboom.” Have you looked at Vitamin String Quartet? They probably have some Radiohead covers (instrumental) that would work. 🙂

Yes!!! Vitamin String Quartet is what inspired me 🙂 They have “Strung Out on Radiohead” – it’s their incredibly awesome cover of OK Computer. It’s truly gorgeous and really turns some wack-job chords and tempos into something wedding-worthy. Grandma won’t cringe 🙂
@Chai, you may want to check out VSQ.. they just might have one of your favorites compiled into a string version. Then you might find a way to squeeze in your bands!
Christopher O’Reilly also covers Radiohead (and others) with classical piano. He’s also pretty impressive.

ok Radiohead is my FAVORITE band EVER! and as much as I wanted to incorporate a radiohead song into my wedding SOMEWHERE, my fiance said that it was too depressing so our end of ceremony song will be Sunny Day Real Estate’s Rain Song. I’m ok with that though, I love that song!!!!

We will be playing Reckoner while we walk down the aisle. The lyrics have no meaning to us but you can’t tell what Thom Yorke is saying. I love the song, it moves me. My fiance loves the idea.

MY Fi LOVES street spirit by radiohead….I downloaded the vitamin string quartet version and I’m not sure if it’s really wedding appropriate – what do you guys think?
Love Radiohead! I think it’s great to incorporate personal touches into your wedding – whether or not people will think it’s “strange”. It’s your day, and if there is significant meaning to you and your FI that’s all that matters.
I’m curious to see what you end up doing! Keep us posted 🙂
