I live 45 minutes away, March is pretty good month especially since you are getting married in the desert?
Glad to hear I live in Inland empire, and I love it since I am close by to LA and can go to the Floral and GArment district to buy my wedding supplies.
PM if you like
Hello....I live in palm springs area. You picked a nice time in the desert to get married. Its not super hot In March yet. Right now its 103 degrees. So definately you dont want to do it from late may-june onward. That would horrible for you and your guests.
I am getting married in Palm Springs on October 10 of this year so the weather should be sweet.
Have you chosen a location/venue? What's the name and how many people in your party?
-Loulee
@Loulee: October in Palm Springs will be so great! Our 1st choice was October/November of this year, but it didn't work out. We're getting married at a hotel downtown with a guest list of about 150, what about you?
I also live about 45 mins from P.S. You picked a gorgeous time of year! Loulee is correct, it won't be hot in the least; but it may still be chilly in the evening.
Hello genesse. I pretty sure you cant go wrong with any of the hotels downtown. They are all pretty cool. 150 sounds like you have probably been very busy:)
I, doing it in a Bed and BReakfast near to the mountain behind the Starbucks downtown. It a cute intimate garden setting. My count is presently at 60.
Hello Ms caramia. Hope your planning is going well.... We are date twins. How large is your wedding going to be?
so jealous
I wanted Palm Springs soooo bad but the place we go to ( our hideaway ) was way out of our budget. Congrats!
@Loulee: Everything is going well so far. I'm very anxious to get the invites out, but it probably won't be for another 2 weeks or so :-/ We are inviting 172 people...not small, but not too huge either. What about you?? Care to share details: cake, colors, centerpieces, etc?
CaraMia10: Our is small about 70 people. Our colors are white/champagne and the bridal party is purple. Centerpieces will be just floaral arrangments.
Have not sent invites out either. Will get to it soon. Presently looking for wedding bands in LA Gold district and looking for MOG dress. Also looking for a white party dress for me.
Do you think it would be a bad idea to get a purple party dress, but have it look completely different than my girls. Lots of people are telling me that its a bad idea and that I really should do white or ivory. But golly gheeze, its been really hard trying to find a white party salsa dress that doesnt look like for a 12 year old.
Anyway, will keep looking. hope your planning is going ok. Based on your last entry, your invites should be all out.....
@Loulee: About the dress, do it! I've seen wedding shows (Lord knows I watch my share) where the bride is in bright, beautiful, comfy after-ceremony attire. I don't think it's in bad taste at all, and of course you'll be way more comfortable. I also was thinking of getting a different dress for the reception, but budget wise I just don't see that happening.
On a different note, we will finally be sending our invites out tomorrow! I am SO excited, I can hardly stand it.
CaraMia: Am so excited about your invites.....Which reminds me I better get to mine soon too....Good luck keeping on top of your rsvps.....Its right around the corner
I'm so excited to see more Palm Springs/IE brides out there! I'm planning a trip out to PS in the next couple weeks to check out florists, cupcakes (yum!), and rehearsal dinner spots. Can't wait!
Genesee: if I remember correctly you are coming from loma linda....I think you are going to find better prices out where you live. Palm Springs vendor costs are ridiculous unless you go to INDIO...where there's not as many "five star" type places. PS is a price town along with Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, La Quinta etc....The mentality here is that everyone has lots of money.
So far the best floral prices are in the flower district in LA....hands down.
Even food, Originally I thought to do just appetizers and I was quoted from PS caterers 2000 dollars for just a few appetizers. I ultimately decided for that price to go with a full meal buffet style. I found a caterer in La Habra who is giving me a price of 3200 for a buffet style meal. Ultimately the closest match I found for exactly the same items was a PS caterer charging me 3900 and I checked with quite a few PS Caterers.
Photographer....a couple of PS Photog averaged 3800 starting for the most basic packages. I ultimately found an experience reputable photog out of 29 Palms/Yucca Valley for 2000 whose albums looked way better than anything the 3800 dollar photogs had and ultimately provided more hours of coverage and a second photographer.
My advice is to stay clear of PS Vendors.....unless money is not an obstacle for you and you can splurge a little....otherwise, you will feel it.
@Loulee: Thanks for all the advice! I'm coming out of LA--which in terms of costs is a good and bad thing. We already have a photog (one of our big splurges), and she is coming out of OC, thankfully with no travel fee. I definitely need to save in terms of the florals and I'm not sure how to go about that. DIY and the LA flower mart will have the best prices--but since it's a semi-destination wedding I'm not sure if I'll have the time/space/manpower/transportation to make that happen--even though I love arranging flowers myself. Maybe there is an awesome florist in Indio?
So far I have been speaking with Laura of Alladin Flowers in Indio 760-347-3679. She has not yet shown me a sample of anything. We have not really finalized what we want and I am still looking for inspirational photos to show her. I cant give you figures, but shes been really sweet and patient with us. I know she'll beat PS florists hands down.
As I get closer to narrowing my buds down, Ill let you know, shoot me Private email if you like around mid september.....and ill tell you what the numbers look like for what i am wanting.
Good luck.

@Loulee: You're the best! I'm taking a trip out there soon and I will look up Laura at Alladin! Hope your flowers turn out amazing!
We also had better luck using vendors outside of PS. Our caterer and florist were from LA, photographers from OC, DJ from SD. Since our wedding date was high season in PS, but low season in LA/OC/SD, we saved a TON of money using outside vendors. The extra price we paid for travel expenses didn't compare to the additional money we would have spent using the PS vendors we found.
@Amani: thanks for the advice! Our photographer is from OC and our videographer is from LA--thankfully with no or low travel fees. Catering is included with our venue. I'm going to check out a few florists in the greater PS area and then expand out if the costs are too high (which I'm kind of expecting). We're meeting with a DJ this weekend who I think might be great, keeping my fingers crossed on that one!
Are any of you getting a DOC?
I tried going with someone who was supposed to get me a quote and put a contract together after showing her my venue and spending a couple of hours with her. She then did not get back to me after three weeks. When I finally pinned her down, it almost sounded like she did not remember me and her only exucuse was that she was working on two other larger weddings. I fired her.
I ultimately went with a friend who used to do event planning and will be doing my day of coordination for no charge. I just met with her yesterday and went to the venue together to show her what i had in mind. I have total confidence in her and am sure she will make sure everything runs smooth. I will get her a nice gift card to a steak house as my thank you.
Good luck with finding a day of coordinator.
I am getting my invitations today. Drop a line on your planning genesse.
Hope things are going well for all the Palm Springs Brides out there. CHEER CHEER!
Hello Palm Springs Brides!
I am a PS Bride also. Do any of you have your makeup/hair artist yet??
Can you say who your photog is? I used to live in YV, I'm curious. There are some good people up there, but as a rule, I went down the hill to the Palm Springs area for services, the hi dez people are often not very professional. Hope you good some solid references.
Sorry I didn't write back sooner, I was busy getting married (haha).....
My photographer was Graphicon Studio Photographers..... Jean Paul. He was great. Really professional and easy to work with. An friend of mine also used him for her wedding and i saw her album which was super awesome. His prices were reasonable for an album, and a second photographer and I have absolutely no complaints about him.
For Makeup I used a totally awesome gal....her name is Tate, she is so bubbly, patient and has a full line of MAC products. She was super clean and organized. I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone..... She also lived out of YV.
Send me a private message if you'd like their numbers.....as for Graphicon, you can look that up online......
I had absolutely no complaints and believe me, coming from me, that is a amazing....I am a very picky person.
I'll download some photos as soon as I get my hands on them
I will be looking for a mu artist for my May wedding in PS. Would love to hear your thoughts on yours!
Tate was awesome, came early, was bubbly, very organized, patient, and cleaned each brush in between each girl. She had a great sense of humor, was down to earth and easy to talk to. She was great.
Cheetah: the flowers with Alladin, were great. Here's a couple 'a photos....
Thanks for this post! I was quoted an insane amount for catering from the Ace Hotel (which has GREAT food, but still, it was like 20K for the food and beverage). Seems like the best bet is to secure as many vendors as possible from outside PS.
However I am worried about hairstylists, did your same makeup person handle the hair for your day?
Thanks again!
Hey girls!
I am getting married in the Joshua Tree park in October 2012, and we are staying in Palm Springs. I am also hoping to get referrals for hair and make up :) I can't help but worry that I will hire someone and they just won;t show up or something.......
@ whatsthatcat:
I had another person handle my hair. While the bridesmaids were getting makeup done I did my hair and then I did makeup after all the girls were done. It went pretty smoothly.
We shot this palm desert wedding in March... it was absolutely perfect weather! Your really couldn't pick a better time of year to get married in the desert. Here is the list of the local vendors who did a fantastic job:
Hair and Makeup: The A List Makeup Studio
Caterer: La Quinta Resort & Club
Linens/Decor: Arrangements Floral Designs
Cocktail Entertainment: Mike O’Bryan
Reception Entertainment: A Musical Affair
Wedding Cake: Juliette’s Bakery
Rentals: Signature Party Rentals
Limousine: Phat Daddy’z Limousine Service
Best of luck with your wedding planning. I hope that this helps some of you! :)
@sassy411: Hi! I am a PS bride to be and I am serching everywhere for a hair and make up artist! Can you recommend the one you used? Were you happy?
@AcquaPhoto: Thanks for posting!! I am looking for a hair and make up artist, and I am wondering if you would recommend yours? Were you happy? How were the prices?

Hey all! We live in LA but are planning a semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs for March. Who else is getting married in Palm Springs? Do you live near there or are you planning from afar?
