We don't. I am not saying that we don't get any but very rarely do we get any, for instance we vaccinated agains pertussis because it is so dangerous for little ones. There is a lot of pressure to vaccinate but our youngest daughter had a severe reaction to the MMR at 12 months and screamed almost nonstop for 2 weeks until her fever broke. I didn't think she would ever be the same. Thank God she did recover.
I think it is socially irresponsible to not vaccinate your children. you are not just endangering your own children, you are endangering the public, especially those with compromised immune systems.
there is literally NO scientific backup to prove vaccines cause mental disorders.
did you know that diseases we had totally gotten under control are making a comeback because of this crap?
sorry if my answer seems snide, but I feel really really strongly about this.
@burris4: are your kids school age? I always thought that unless they got vaccines and had paperwork to prove it, they weren't allowed in the public school system?
There are exemptions for parents who oppose vaccines. We don't deal with that because we are home schoolers.
I have plenty of autism in my family... It isn't linked to vaccines... They are finally starting to see that it's genetics... SURPRISED! NOT! like 70% of my blood family has it... including me ;) (extremely mild though)
@burris4: I vaccinated DS but we won't be vacicnating our future children.
@burris4: oh ok, I didn't know that.
hmm, I just wonder if that's the case, how are they able to get put into a public school, where they are potentially putting thousands of other kids at risk?
@Kym080412: They are finally starting to see that it's genetics... SURPRISED! NOT!
I know, right?
I want to slap Jenny McCarthy.
@MrsSl82be: I have many, but ultimately we've just decided against them. Along with most things from the pharmaceutical companies. lol
As for school, it's a simple form that you sign that you're opposed... they've had them for a long time and lots of kids are in public schools under this.... but it's not like we ever know who they are though since it's private information.
@janie-janie: well said! As soon as I saw the title of the post, I felt upset. I promised myself I wouldn't look at it because I feel so strongly, but here I am.
Kiiinda funny... You posted a thread about how women who go back to cheating husbands/FI/SOs are so stupid because they don't see the evidence of what is so clearly true in front of them. Should we start posting statistics about vaccines?
Janie... Yeah, and now Jenny's backing down on her original fight about it... a bit "too little too late" If ya ask me...
@janie-janie: I am in complete agreement with your statements.
I have and will be vaccinating my children. It's irresponsible in my honest opinion not to.
@amnystik: "we've just decided against them" doesn't exactly explain why.
I'm very curious to find out why the ladies who are opposed to vaccination feel the way they do. Just because doesn't really count as an answer for me.
This has been discussed ad nauseum on other posts and always leads to fairly headed discussion.
Personally, I think it is cruel to not give your kids vaccines.
@burris4:Sounds like your kid had an allergy to the vaccine. But that is why people who can vaccinate their kids should. There are people who can't vaccinate due to allergies, immunocompromised children, ect.
The diseases we vaccinate against are HORRIFIC if your child gets them. And if you look at real, scientific research, not crazy "exspercts" who have no idea what they are talking about but real studies, unless there is some kind of allergy, the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the risks. I have said this on other posts about this so I won't repeat all the diseases that we vaccinate against that can kill you kid but are totally preventable. I will say that in most other places on the planet parents would KILL for the chance to keep their children from getting chicken pox, the flu, roto virus and others that those of us living in first world countries don't even think about.
The only reason your kids aren't getting sick is because other people have vaccinated their childen.
My father had polio and walked with crutches, so I know the importance of vaccines.
However, as someone who works with animals I see a lot of "over-vaccinating" done, when people should be getting titers (titres) instead.
It may be apples and oranges, but If I had a child I'd do the bare minimum.
This is a subject that I will defintely look into very carefully when I have kids. I think for things like pertussis and other serious illness, yes. Some other like flu shots, no. There are more vaccine "injuries" out there then the public is made aware of. I'm no conspiracy theory type person and do believe in the practice of medicine (my mom has been an RN for 30 years). My dad got the flu shot (last year when they did the combined H1Ni and regular) and slowly became paralyzed by Gillian Barre and almost died. He was a HEALTHY man with no other conditions & had the flu shot for the past 20 years too), you just never know. After 4 months in the hospital the neurologist told us to report his Gullian Barre as a vaccine injury and that she had never seen so many cases of the disease in all her years a neurologist. HRSA knows this is a potential effect but still administers it (with Gullian Barre syndrome, basically you become paralyzed slowly and then your lungs do too = life support/death). I'm not saying no to vaccines, I'm just saying look into them and weigh the risks on both sides.
Here's a little about how our tax dollars are funded away to compensate the vaccine injuries
@GoldfishPie: I never said A SINGLE word about there being a link to autism or not. That has nothing to do with my decision. I can tell you that my daughter started crying after the vaccines and didn't stop for 2 weeks except to sleep. She had a flatness of expression that terrified me. This is our experience with the MMR vaccine. We are not trying to make any assumptions about the links or non-links, only that morally and ethically we feel at peace with our choice.
The part that really annoys me about parents who choose not to vaccinate their children, is that they are depending on the fact that others WILL vaccinate their children so they can benfit from the herd immunity.

I work at a nursing call center and every day we get calls from pancked parents who did not vaccinate their children and now they have chickenpox, measles etc. Honestly, what did they expect? The viruses were just going to magically skip over their children?
Yes. most children do not experience the serious complications but when they do , know that you chose to roll the dice with your child's health.
@KatyElle: Your response on another thread was my reality check. I started questioning the reports and opinions that made me scared, only to find that none of them were conclusive and most were false. My youngest was on a delayed schedule b/c of my concerns, but he is completely vaccinated now. I'm scared for future generations when herd immunity wears off and we are reminded why vaccines were so neccessary in the first place.
Not to hijack this thread but how do you ladies feel about Gardisal/HPV vaccine? I was in the age group where I could have recived it and had my insurance cover it but I was slow and missed the window when it first came out. I was considering it. But I do not feel it is a neccessary vaccine and wonder if I would have my daughter vaccinated with it? As for my above posts, I do believe in vaccinations but I'm cautious. And I myself get all my vaccinations except the flu shot, which I refuse.
Also, I already said that we do get some vaccines. Not all by any means but the ones we feel are necessary. We have a moral issue with some vaccines, for instance some vaccines are grown in aborted fetal lung tissue. I don't think it is kind to call other peoples moral convictions irresponsible.
@burris4: I never said a single word about autism either. I was referring to countless population of lives that have been saved by vaccines, and how it is statistically proven that areas of low vaccination rates are more prone to the horrific diseases that vaccines had previously eliminated decades ago. I don't have children, but I am so scared to be living in a place where something as life saving and disease preventing is optional, simply because "we don't believe in it."
@burris4: My mom said I too had a severe reaction to that vaccine that we believe led to me having recurring seizures for several years thereafter. I am pretty leery of vaccines because of that.
This is something that I will look into carefully when I have children. I have no doubt that I will still vaccinate for things such as whooping cough, polio and such, but chickenpox, HPV, or the flu? No. Doubtlessly, vaccines have saved millions of lives but I do think that we are tending to over-vaccinate and it is something that pharmaceutical companies profit from so I try to just be aware of that.
I am sure this will become quite heated but I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents before then :)
@burris4: To be fair though, you really can't start a thread like this and then get upset when people have strong opinions about it. Gahhh, there I go again!
@burris4: Please enlighten me on which vaccine that is. That sounds like a bad urban myth to scare people away from "the horrific vaccines"
Not the OP, but a PP mentioned that kids can come to school without being vaccinated? Holy shit, that scares the hell out of me! Schools are such breeding grounds for the common cold - I can't imagine the terror of an unvaccinated kid bringing a more serous disease to that environment.
I am also interested in hearing why parents don't vaccinate their kids. To me, it seems like such an obvious decision (to vaccinate) but I appreciate hearing the other side of the story.
To the parents that don't vaccinate.....would you let your kids play with kids in public areas? (i.e. like a community playground or rec center?) Would you feel bad if one of the other kids got sick from your kid not being vaccinated?
@nickels: My sister ended up with HPV and had to have surgerical intervention because of it. My daughters will both be given the HPV vaccine.
@hisgoosiegirl I think we're on the same page. Serious illness, yes. Flu and chicken pox, doubt I will. I will probably for the measels though. I don't think there was a chickn pox vaccine when I was little. I remember when my brother and I got chickn pox, all the neighborhood moms wanted their kids to come get it too so they could just be over with it. Wow, I feel old saying that, I'm only 29.
@chasesgirl: This was what happen with my daughter at 12 months old after the MMR
