I went once. I’m more out of shape than I originally thought because it felt like I was going to die. I was sore for  DAYYYYSSS. 🙁

I would totally go back if I didn’t think I would embarrass myself that badly again. But now I’m afraid b/c I was so lame at keeping up with it.

Oh man I go 3-4x a week and am so totally addicted! The one near me is right next to a fancyish private college and I’m surrounded by a bunch of size 2 18 year olds. :/ I’m size 8 and nearly 28 and feel ANCIENT and HUGE but I love the workout so much. I started in September of last year, and by the end of December I was down about 10lbs. I didn’t think it would be such a workout, boy was I wrong.

@misspeanut:  is it the method that makes them so skinny or is it that only skinny/short people are attracted to the class?

can anyone compare pure barre with the other methods out there? bar method, core fusion, physique 57?

@misspeanut:  do you attend the one on greenville!? i was there for about a year until the end of last year. i am now crossfitting at white rock. the intructors there are so nice!! it was a little weird seeing all the college girls there sometimes, it made me feel old (im 30 now) well i hope you are enjoying it!! it made such a HUGE difference for me & i am even a former ballerina!

@karenlinebarger:  Yes! Oh, I love it! I danced for about 18 years until my body rebelled and everything else is just so freaking hard on my joints. It makes me miss ballet so much and is a great workout. I really don’t mind the college girls, I’m just jealous of how fabulous they look while I’m in the back sweating like a pig! :p I think of them as motivation! I wish I could handle crossfit, but my heart just can’t take it. I went for a few classes but couldn’t do it.

@carbear02:  they are VERY different. PB is very low impact & CF is exactly the opposite. I love them both for different reasons. I stopped doing PB for a couple of reasons..one is bc I plateaued & I wanted to see more changes. Granted this was after almost 7 months, but I wanted more out of it. Also, my sciatica flared up very badly because of the tucks and doing moves like fold over, etc. They are both great & as long as you’re happy doing what you’re doing & it works for you, keep at it!

I tend to get bored easily with “routine” work outs, so CF definitely aides that. PB is different everytime, but it’s all the same moves essentially. CF switches it up every single time with different amount of reps/combinations/etc (except for the benchmark workouts) If you’re curious about CF I definitey suggest you check out your local “box.” The community aspect is beyond amazing. You definitely feel that these people are your family, and you are really going through blood, sweat, & tears with them.

@karenlinebarger:  hmm they have very different philosophies. crossfit is more like bootcamp or biggest loser type workouts right? does crossfit help you maintain the dancer’s body that you sculpted at purebarre?

Check out Yogavibes.com- it’s one of those great online yoga streaming sites, and they also have Core Fusion barre classes! It’s like a $20/month membership for unlimited streaming of hundreds of yoga classes and the barre classes too. The nice thing is all the classes are filmed in studios with real people, so I find it easier to get motivated vs. watching the perfect people in workout DVDs, who never seem to sweat (amIright?)

I have not tried any of the other schools of barre, but I’m sure they’re all just as fabulous and tough. I’m home visiting my family right now, and I made my sister do a streamed class with me. She’s a just graduated college division 1 softball player and works out with a personal trainer, and after about 10 minutes she was calling me (and the instructor onscreen) some pretty choice names Wink

We should get a little Bee Barre Girls group together! I just saw Silver Linings Playbook, and my new goal is to get in “Jennifer Lawrence shape” by my big day! haha
