Are there any bride-to-bees out there near the Iowa/Illinois border? I'd love to exchange vendor information or other ideas!
I'm a QC bride! And we have the same date!!! Only I'll be celebrating my one year anniversary when you are getting married. :) Wait...did you happen to receive a call from Louise at Staacks recently??
LOL Wow what a small world! No, I haven't received a call from Louise. I did go and speak with her back in September, but now I am going another route with flowers. Are you going with Staacks? Their flowers are so beautiful!!!!
We are getting married on 9/18/2010. Are you getting married on 9/18/2009? That is such a coincedence!
How is your planning going along? May I ask what you are doing for music and for cake? That is our next step in the planning process...
I met with Staack's last weekend and I believe she has you penciled in for September 18, 2009! I was very surprised to see someone with our wedding date (it's a Friday) and I looked you up on QCWeddings and saw your wedding was in 2010. So, I brought it up with Louise and she said she would look into it.
What are you doing for flowers? We haven't decided yet, still waiting to get our bid back.
We are using Robin from LeCake and All Star Mobile Entertainment.
Our planning is probably not quite as far as it could be, but we have everything booked (except for flowers) and I have my dress and bridesmaid dresses.
I'm a QC Bride! I always looked at the map and thought it would be nice if we were on it, but thought there probably wasn't enough of us. I'll be getting married July 25.
Well, we need to build our numbers. I put in a request for us to have our own board. :)
@poandko: We are using Cynwhd b. designs which is my planner's florist. Here is her website: www.specialelegantevents.com If you contact her and talk with her, she can work up a quote for you. I have seen her work in person, and it is lovely! She also has extremely reasonable prices, IMHO.
We haven't gotten our cake yet, but we aren't even sure if we are doing a cake. We aren't really "cake" people. My FI does love cheesecake, so maybe we'll be doing something with that. I've also heard of this lady who is a farmer's wife or something that does cake for cheap out of her home, and if we went with a cake, we might contact her. I personally have a really hard time forking out money for a dessert...*sigh*
I think we are hiring a band v. a dj. They are called the Funktastic 5.
Who's your photog? Ours is Giraffe Photography, and I am in love with them.
Where did you get your dress? I will start dress shopping in September.
I should give Louise a call and tell her that we won't be using her (beautiful) flowers. And yes, it would be 2010 not 2009. Oh well. :)
@july09bridetobe: Welcome to our little discussion! Your wedding is coming up quickly! How is all your planning going??
Yeah, the QC forum on the knot is always really dead too.
My fiance and I are having a desserts only reception, so it's funny that you say you don't want to spend money on desserts, because that's pretty much all we're having! We're having a fruit display, cheese display, wedding cake, Whitey's mini-malts (!!!), and an assortment of brownies, cookies, mini pies, creme brulee, canolis, eclairs, cheesecake, fruit tarts, truffles, petit fours, etc. Mmmm...
I got my dress at Storybook in Dewitt. I have been impressed with their service so far. I bought my dress off the rack and they let me come in to "visit" it. :) I also went to Celebrations, Hope's, David's, and the Bridal Room.
I've heard of Funktastic 5 is really good!
Our photog is Rick Jennisch. I've been obsessed with his work for years. I like Giraffe, too. My friend who is getting married 3 weeks after me is using Giraffe.
Hi july09bridetobe! Share some of your plans!
Your dessert reception sounds fantastic! What a great idea, especially adding the local twist with Whiteys. Yum!
I think my FSIL used Rick Jennish as well.
Giraffe was my top pick tied with Kim Anne's photography in Burlington. I loved their stuff, but when I got her brochure that told me that it would be roughly $10k for what I wanted out of a photographer, I went another direction. :)
I lived in Iowa City for 10 years so its nice to see some local brides, even if it is a about 45 minutes away still.
Hi, MrsDavis! :) Iowa City is so lovely. Did you get married there? If so, where?
Jenny, i think you won $50 on qcweddings! congrats!
one of my bridesmaids who is single and NOT engaged likes to chat on qcweddings too..and she was one of the winners. lol that jerk.
What??? I think that should make her not qualified! lol kidding...maybe. Yeah it was so funny because I didn't even remember entering the contest, and I think I made the lady mad when I emailed her back to ask about it. Then I went to go pick up the $50, and this guy had no idea what I was talking about. Another lady came out and said basically here you go. They didn't ask for ID or anything. So if y'all want $50 go to 1047 State Street! It made me laugh so hard, I wrote about it on my blog to share!
I'm getting married in Burlington, IA, so a little south, but still on the Iowa/Illinois border! I'm happy to see other Iowa brides on here!
Welcome to our lil' board, loveatfirstsightlover! When is your wedding date, and how is your planning going??
i think anyone who signed up for the new boards was registered to win. um, i have to say donna from qcweddings kinda drives me nuts...but whatev. haha if they don't require ID maybe i'll go claim her prize...haha j/k.
I'm getting married May 30, 2009, so it's coming up fast. All the major details are secured, everyone's been paid that needs early payments, and I'm really just down to the nitty gritty. I've got 80% of the DIY projects done, just need a few finishing touches on the reception decor and to put together the ceremony programs, plus some signage for the reception hall. Thanks for the welcome!
Sounds like you're on your way! Aren't you glad that you're getting most of this done now so that you can enjoy the last weeks of being engaged without rushing around like a crazy person?
Definitely! I know the last week will still be kinda hectic, but it looks like it will mostly be just going over all the details again and again, making sure the day of is as stress-free as possible. My mom has been great, especially since I'm planning the wedding from four hours away (Ames). On the weekends I come home, she and I go over the list of things we want to accomplish that weekend and I keep her up to date on everything I've accomplished.
My planner has never been to our venue (Deere Run golf course), and she is meeting me there on April 8th to look everything over. I am so excited! At that time we are also finalizing the flower quote which gives me the chills because her flowers are so beautiful! :)
Hi guys. So exciting we've found so many QC brides so quickly.
We'll be getting married at The Botanical Center in the late morning and we're having a lunch reception at Biaggi's.
I have my photographer - Todd Welvaert who I highly recommend - tworiversphoto.com. He's a great guy and his prices are very reasonable. Hy-Vee Silvis is doing the flowers and Old Towne for the cake. I got my dress from Storybook after having no luck at Davids, Celebrations, etc. My bridesmaid dresses are also from Storybook.
We are just about to book our honeymoon for Jamaica, still picking between a few resorts.
I'm putting an end to my procrastination of tracking down an officiant right now. I'm going to make some calls and hopefully get that decision out of the way.
Happy planning everyone.
That sounds awesome! I love the botanical center and biaggis! What a great idea! What have you learned about your Jamaican honeymoon? We have started to broach this topic, and Jamaica came up for sure. Let us know if you find any amazing deals or locations...
We just met with Sharon at the Bettendorf AAA - who agreed to meet us after hours on Friday with just a couple hours notice. That was really nice because we've tried to stop in at Gulliver's Travel in both the malls a few times and it was all a wasted effort with them. Sharon was very nice, knowledgable and quite a relief after Gulliver's.
She picked out four - Couples Swept Away, Couples Negril, Riu Palace and Rose Hall Suites. I was just to write a general post to see if peopel had some input on any of these. For now I know the Couples resorts means a honeymoon sans children and the other two do not.
The prices with air from Moline are working out to be $1,664 to $1353 per person.
I just left a message for the officiant I've been e-mailing. I'm stll interested in talking with him, but was wondering if anyone had some local suggestions. We are wanting a meaningful ceremony that is not religious. I've been avoiding calls because I dont' want to offend an officiant, but I also want to make sure we're comfortable with our ceremony.
Is there a friend or family member that could be ordained in time for your wedding? That would be so cool to have someone who loves you to marry you. We are having my uncle marry us.
Those prices aren't that bad! I'm going to check that out. And thanks for the advice about going with AAA.
Wanted to update and say my officiant is taken care of! I've built it up to be this big scary task of picking someone and I've been putting it off. We've thought of asking family or friends, but no one really jumped out at us as a good fit. We met with our officiant and his wife over breakfast yesterday and they were both so nice. It's a relief to have it taken care of.
Hey, QC Bees, we have our engagement shoot coming up this fall, and I was hoping you all could give me some suggestions of fantastic and creative places to go in Davenport or Bettendorf...
Does anyone know of any airbrush make up artists around here? And at the same time great people who will travel and do fantastic wedding hair?
HIIIII!!!! I am so excited to see QC brides on here!!! I have been on here a little while and mildly obsessed with Weddingbee!
@July09bridetobe-we are using the botanical center for our rehearsal dinner, can't wait!
HI JDH! I just started planning my rehearsal and was talking with Rose about booking them. She said if we don't book the dinner there, we'd have to hold our rehearsal from 4 to 5 p.m. or pay an extra $100 to have it start at 5 p.m. Either way sounds like it would be a time crunch for people out of town to arrive and even for those in town who weren't planning to take the Friday before off.
I still need to do some checking around, but this sounds like what we might be going with. What are you planning for your rehearsal?
I am having my rehearsal at our church and then going to the Botanical Center at 7. We have the last conference room with all the windows. I think its going to be perfect. We are going to have the whole place to ourselves. We are using Bridges catering.
Just an update, we ended up booking Johnny's for the rehearsal! It's nice to have that taken care of.
Johnnys is FABULOUS for a rehearsal spot. I like how private it is in the room. Great location too if you have guests staying at the Radisson or Stoney Creek.
Hey ladies! I am new to this website as I have been using theknot for all my wedding planning needs!
I am having a hard time finding a make up artist in the Quad Cities area...anyone have any recomendations? The wonderful woman who is doing hair for us does not do make up, and the salon she works in is smaller so there isn't anyone in house either. I can barely do my own make up, or else I would just do it myself...
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
I am also looking for a local make up artist...preferably an airbrush make up artist...
Hello, all. I just found this wonderful board!! My fiance and I are getting married on 09.19.09. And we are having a hard time finding a rehearsal dinner site. We looked into TPC Deere Run and Lavender Crest - both are already booked. Any ideas? I am also looking for a make-up artist... sorry I cant help with that question!!
We are having our rehearsal at the botanical center. Have you tried there? Or Johnny's Steakhouse?
PS I found an airbrush make up artist:
She seems very reasonable, and I'm going to give her a try!
Hey ladies!!! I am a Mrs. now! I wanted to share my highlights video. We used Mediainnovations and they are FABULOUS!! I can't wait to see the full video.
http://mistudiosblog.com/2009/06/11/jenae-jake-highlights/
Also, JennyBryde, I had an airbrush makeup artist as well, she does it freelance and I loved my makeup. If you don't love yours let me know and I can get you her info. Once I get my images from the photographer, I can email you some as well if you would like!
Hey QC Brides, I just wanted to put in a little plug for a side project that I am working on.
Have you ever used the qcweddings.com website for their QC vendor directory? I know that that is the place that I started from when I first was getting going on our wedding planning. Anyhoo, they are doing a lot of new things over there, and they've unveiled a blog at http://blog.qcweddings.com. I am kind of heading up the writing and projects for the blogs.
(Also they have a local message board up and running that I think will become very useful for us QC brides: http://www.qcweddings.com/qcwforums/ )
I'd like the blog to feature real couples from the QC area each week or so, so if any of you would like to be featured on the blog where we could work on a piece about your wedding planning, vendor relationships, or anything else wedding, just let me know!
:) Thanks!
@JDH - CONGRATS! Your highlights video turned out Awesome!!! I hope married life is just as beautiful as your wedding day was!!!
And I'm interested to know who your make up artist was...I've been talking to Erin K. Seddon about make up but haven't had any trials yet...
Has anyone use Erin K. Seddon? Can someone provide me with a review? She is the only person I have been able to find that does makeup in the Quad City area.
