Hello! I will be shopping for my wedding dress soon, and after looking online I have really fallen in love with several Maggie Sottero gowns. Most of them are A-line sweetheart or strapless gowns with corsets. However, I am not sure if they will look good on a plus size bride like myself. If anyone has pics to share I would appreciate it! These are some dresses I like:If you have anything similar please post.

i bought jenna, and it looks pretty good, im like "hey i dont look so fat!" (sorry no pics, i havent picked it up yet)
I am also interested because I LOVE Maggie Sottero and I am also plus size (16/18) I have tried on one of her gowns before and they do fit very well! However, it is not the one I absolutely love and I wasn't allowed to take pictures (bummer)
@freakingoutnow: I would love to see pics when you get your dress. I love Jenna!!! Nowhere close by has it a size larger than an 8 and I need a 16 in wedding dresses.
@cs71904: I purchased a Maggie Sottero "Grace" unfortunately I got it a size too small in a 20. I have it for sale if you are interested. $550.
I tried on the Lillian {I'm plus sized} and it was beautiful - I couldn't believe how it gave me an actual waist!!
@jaguar: I wore Lillian for my wedding! I love the way she looked...I will try to find a good picture.
I tried on (and fell in love with - yet did not buy) the Melissa Brooch. I am a street size 20, and the dress was an 18w.
Sorry ladies...i dont know techinically what the size is to be considered plus size. Im a size 14 on the street...and i know plus size starts at that (and i bought from there) so i dont know. I just dont want to offend anyone....:(
Anywho...at a 14+ I bought a maggie dress. Also the Melissa Brooch
I have melissa brooch as well. Don't have any pics though. The good thing about Maggie Sottero for plus size brides is the corset, they are forgiving if you lose/gain a few pounds and they really create that hourglass shape. Very happy with my dress.
TOTALLY agree. When dress shopping i wasnt into "names" etc, i didnt know any designers. I happened to try on a maggie dress and i could not BELIEVE the difference it made..it was the key reason as to why I ended up purchasing this dress. All of a sudden i had hips!! (I HAVE NEVER HAD HIPS!!! *laugh*)
Here she is, Lillian!
Yeah, we had a LOT of fun cutting the cake. hehe :)
I found Maggie dresses to be more flattering. The corset helps a lot.
I'm wearing a size 16 Maggie in this picture. It's the day my dress arrived, so I had to try it on... it's not the finished put-together look. I also found that Maggie dresses run much closer to street size, which helped mentally. I wear a street 16 and needed a size 16 Maggie.
@marieta: You look great in your dress!! How tall are you? I think we have a similar build and I ordered a 16 so I am hoping mine fits as well as yours. I was a 16 when I bought it but I have lost 15 pounds so I'm more of a heavy 14 I think at this point? I don't know anymore because everything I try on fits differently. I'm only 5'3" though. Your waist looks tiny! I love that dress!
Mine was a Maggie Vienna (I wore it with a Bolero from Etsy):

@thelovecats: Thank you! :) I'm 5'6" and I cannot for the life of me remember if I was wearing heels that day (I think I probably was, but if so they're low heels). I ordered the dress in the short length because I know I won't wear much in the way of heels on the wedding day. I'm pretty big in the chest, so that's always the defining measurement. (That and hips, but with an A-line dress I usually managed fine with that.) I might have been able to fit a 14, but I felt safer ordering the 16... from what I can tell, alterations can usually go up to 2 sizes down without too much trouble.
I looove what the corsets do for the waist. And even with my huge chest, the corset helps support it so much.
Everyone looks so beautiful!!! I'm in love with so many of Maggie Sottero's dresses lol! It's going to be hard to decide!
I just found my dress yesterday! Sandrina by Maggie Sottero! I love it! It was one of the most figure flattering I have tried on and it's comfortable! Hope this helps!
I'm a size 18 in wedding dresses, and this is what Maggie did for me:
VIENNA:
ADELAIDE:
...and I think this one was called AD330:
I chose Vienna :)
I wore the Maggie Sottero Janet, loved the sash on the dress
I wore Maggie! I loved my dress so much and I got soooo many compliments on it...I have pics coming up soon in the blog so you should check them out!
@CellaDee: I tried on those 3 gowns too.......the Vienna is a beautiful dress! It didn't work on my body type, otherwise I'd have totally chosen it! :)
Another Melissa Brooch girl here! She just came in and I got to try her on today. I wear a street 16 but was measured to a borderline 16/18 Maggie size. I went with the 16 with plans to lose weight anyway. Judging from today's fitting I'll need it hemmed and they said if I lose any more weight (which I plan to) I may need it taken in at the hips as well.
@mousegirl: I didnt' think it would work on mine either, but I was surprised how flattering it was, actually. :) I'm so in love with my dress... I honestly don't thin the pictures do it justice! Just curious... which dress did you end up with?
Wow these dresses look fantastic on you girls! Just bookmarked the Melissa Brooch - hopefully I can find it next weekend when I go to try on dresses! Eek! So excited!
@mousegirl: I totally didn't realize that you were in NM,t oo, until you said that "Darlene was helpful" and from there recognized the background. I also tried on the Lillian, and actually, that was my 3rd or 4th choice! How weird is that? lol.
@CellaDee:
I know! Only reason I commented is because I recognized the shop. The lace on the Vienna is beautiful and started me on a hunt for a lace dress. Didn't find one though. My dress is taffeta, which is going to work well for an outdoor ceremony.
@mousegirl: I actually didn't think I really wanted a lace dress until i found Vienna. I thoughht i wanted wither satin or organza. Everyone else seemed to really like Adelaide, but it just didn't feel "right" to me. I kinda of felt like it didn't fit my personality very well. Not only that, but a girl I know got married in the Alfred Andelo (the one you're talking about!) and when I was trying on Adelaide, everyone kept refering to it as "the Nicole dress"... which I wasn't crazy about (It was supposed to be MY dress! lol).
Anyway, yeah, I'm pretty confident about my decision except for the fact that the Vienna cost a little less than twice the amount of the Adelaide. It does have a lot more intricate detail, so that makes sense. Like I said, Lillian was in the running, too! That one just didn't seem to fit as well, though.
Just curious... what do you think made the difference between the Alfren Angelo and the Maggie as far as fit? It the corset different on the Alfred Angelo somehow?
I bought Adelaide after falling in love with how I looked in it.
Here's a pic from when I was getting ready - I love what it did for my figure. (I'm a 16/18 street, my maggie was an 18)
@phedre: I agree, you look perfect in that dress. :)
@ mousegirl: As much as I love the Maggie's Adelaide (and yeah, I'm pretty sure the sample was an 18), I think you made the right choice... that dress is GORGEOUS, and it does seem to fit you very well. I never tried on any AA's... I've kind of always known that I wanted a Maggie so I never really looked at any other designers.
@CellaDee: Eventhough it cost more than you were planning, it looks AMAZING on you! I agree that in person the Vienna is even prettier! You shouldn't feel like you have to look at other designers if you want/love the Maggie dresses. You totally made a great choice! :)
@missbiscuit: That dress makes you look soooooo slim!!!
@mousegirl: Yay! That really makes me feel better about my choice. To be honest, it was a hard one because I felt like I probabaly should have bought the Adelaide because it was less expensive and I really liked the way it fit. Like I said, though... it just didn't really match my personal style. I can't WAIT for it to come in! Thanks for making me feel better about my decision! :)
I have tried on several Maggie dresses, along with dresses from everwhere else, but Maggie dresses are the prettiest. Here are a few that I tried on, and then I am going to put my final choice in the other thread about showing off your dress :)
