So my destination wedding abroad is next year, and I’m starting to get nervous already! I mean, I haven’t been there in years (I’m getting married in Italy), and its not as if I can visit the venue and the church to make sure that all is in order beforehand! I gotta trust my wedding planner for that…
Bees, if you had a destination wedding, did it work out the way you wanted even though you were planning from far away? Did you have any regrets about some family/friends who couldn’t make it?

It was awesome. More people came than I thought would attend, everyone had a great time (they are still talking about how awesome it was) and calling it the best wedding they have even attended.
I did my research on the internet and trusted the world. Was it perfect? No, but I never expected it to be. Was it amazing and wonderful and fantastic? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I don’t regret a thing about it

Mine was fantabulous. We were all thrilled with how it went. We had the perfect number of guests, larger than we expected but made a perfect group size nonetheless. Everything flowed exactly as i had planned even with an ipod for music. I was on cloud 9, our guests were amazed by how great and detailed it all was. It was just almost perfection.

- Wedding: April 2014 - Italian Villa
@destinwed: Hey there location (and almost date) twin! Obviously I don’t know for sure yet, but I don’t think I’ll have any regrets. I guess my only wish would be that more people could make it (specifically grandparents). My grandma said she would come and then my cousin is pregnant with her first great grandchild and is due a week or two after the wedding, so grandma decided she would rather be around for that. But, I’m sure that in the end, I’ll be happy with the people who ARE coming. It’ll be a blast.
Where in Italy are you getting married? We are getting married at a villa in Palombara Sabina (just northeast of Rome).
ETA: I’m having a hard time not being able to physically visit venues, too! I’m having a really hard time visualizing how much decor we will need, and how to hang things, etc. Photoshop has become my best friend in order to figure out what certain stuff will look like!

@gingerkitten: OMG i’m so happy that someone else is getting married in Italy too! I’m getting married in the city of Rome at Santa Maria del Popolo and reception in the Borghese gardens.
Most of my extended family aren’t coming – I just hope it doesn’t seem like an empty wedding because only 35-40 people are going.
I’m definitely getting nervous now….I haven’t done the photoshop thing but maybe I should do that. My sister visited her venue like 10 times before her wedding and I probably won’t even see mine until 3 days before! Its very stressful. Eeeeek

@destinwed: Sounds awesome! I’m glad you’re going to be outside as well. I think the weather should be pretty nice. We are having less people than you (looks like it’ll be 24-30 people), since most of our cousins, etc aren’t coming.
I’m sure it will be lovely! Try not to fret too much! (I’m trying not to…)

Our DW in Mexico worked out great and we have no regrets. In fact, it exceeded our expectations. More people choose to make the trip thatn we’d even imgained on the high end, people loved the resort, and they did a beautiful job of taking care of the wedding. I’m very happy with the decision.
Of course we were missign some people we’d have loved to have there, but that’s the price you pay with a DW. We new that going into things.
I think that we did a good job of handling the DW which contributed to it going well. It made sense for our families, we choose a good location, and we were working with professionals we had faith in and we just let them do their jobs.
