I would say go on the honeymoon over winter break. Thankfullly I am getting married August 8th, which then leaves 2 weeks for the honeymoon to Germany, but if it didn't we were going to go on a cruise over my break. Hope this helps.
I'm graduating in May and getting married in June, so thankfully this isn't an issue for us. (Though it may become an issue depending on when/where I take a job!) I do have a couple of classmates that recently got married during the semester. They both took short mini-moons (one to a nearby town to a really nice hotel and another a few states away to the mountains) and plan to do a longer honeymoon this summer, when they can go further away.
I'm graduating in May and getting married in August. We were initially thinking about getting married last year during our summer break but thought it might be too hectic for me. So, we postponed it for another year.
I knew someone in our program who got married on a Friday and took a very very short mini-moon for the weekend. That's no fun, in my opinion. For me, I think, I would like to go on a vacation (some call it a honeymoon) right after to celebrate all the hardwork I put into our wedding...
If we get married during the semester, we'll wait 'till summer for our honeymoon. otherwise, we'll get married in summer, then honeymoon immediately.
We are getting married after I graduate because I thought I would go crazy otherwise, so I totally admire you for getting married during the semester to space it out for your sister. I would go on your honeymoon during your winter break. It will give you something to look forward to, and you can truly relax without worrying about what paper you should work on. I've also heard from some friends that waited a bit to take their honeymoon that it made them enjoy and anticipate it that much more.
Thank you very much, I appreciate all the advice...it never occured to me to take our honeymoon over winter break!!! Thats a perfect idea...spend Christmas with the family and take off for a week somewhere else!!! LOVE IT!!
I'm also an October bride (Sunday the 11th), and we're delaying our honeymoon until winter break. I'll probably skip a day or two of classes right after the wedding, depending on how my schedule works out, so we can have a mini-moon. I think it'll just be a night at a swanky hotel in our city, though, or maybe a B&B. And then hopefully a day to catch up on the work I won't do that weekend!
i wanted to get married over fall or thanksgiving break, but i knew that i would be totally stressed. i wouldn't want to drive in from school (three and a half hours away) and get married the next day, but i also wouldn't want to get married and drive back to school the next day. SO, we're waiting until december. that way we have a whole month to get things together and have time to relax a little once we're married. i second the suggestion of waiting until december for the honeymoon. perhaps you can spend a couple nights in a nice, local hotel after the wedding, then you can take your actual honeymoon in december when you have more time.
I got married the May before my August graduation over a break. We postponed our honeymoon until that December, which really had nothing to do with school. We just didn't want to leave Omaha during the nicest time of year, we wanted to go to Jamaica when it was cold here. It worked out so well, we were both so relaxed, unlike the other freshly married couples at the resort. They were so stressed and strung out that I could not believe they were having a good time.
We are getting married imbetween my spring quarter- and my summer classes. We decided to wait till I graduated before we go on a 'big trip'. But we are also on the older side of life... (he is 37 & I am 28) so... everyday is a honeymoon. ;o) We have been on many trips together... so I think if we wait it isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
Plus- our mantra lately has been... dream wedding/honeymoon? or Dream House? =o) We are realistic and are going for whichever is more financially responsible. (though we do want to go to Italy, so that is hard to pass up...)
MY FH and I are getting married the saturday after his finals, and a week before his new classes start again. Needless to say, we aren'y going on a honeymoon!
We're getting married in October, so right in the middle of the semester. I'm only taking one class, and plan on telling my teacher at the beginning of the semester when I'm getting married and going on the honeymoon. We're going right after the wedding for a week, so i'll just plan on getting my work done early so that I can spend that week school free. We haven't had a vacation since we went on a cruise (where he proposed) October 2007. I take mostly online classes, and will hopefully be able to take an online class next semester too. If all else falls I'll just bring my laptop and cut out an hour or 2 to do hw.
The way I see it, school has taken so much of my free time, I'm going to take as much time as I want no matter when it is, school me damned!!

I guess that in choosing a date, we're also trying to keep in mind that many of our younger family members and our friends who are educators would have issues with making it to our wedding if it were during a school term. So, that makes it doubly easy to choose a summer or winter break date for the whole biz.

I'm getting married in Oct 09, unfortunately in the middle of a semester (my sister is getting married in August so not to crowd her wedding we decided to get married a little later), anyone have any ideas what to do for a honeymoon, or what did you do for your honeymoon??
