We went to Antigua for our honeymoon. It was beautiful. I've been several places in the Caribbean and we have always had a really fabulous time, beautiful weather, etc. For our honeymoon we stayed at a Sandals resort and it was the most luxurious vacay we have ever taken. We have spent half as much for other all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. My point is, you can find affordable options in nearly all parts of the Caribbean - you just need to be careful about which areas of certain islands you visit.
I highly recommend using a travel agent. Our travel agent was wonderful and VERY helpful throughout our planning process. She also gets the first word on which new resorts are being built and has gotten us great discounts to stay at brand new resorts which are almost totally completed but not quite.
Hawaii and Puerto Rico are good, cheap options. They're usually not so expensive because they're in the US. Unfortunately, a lot of tropical areas are experiencing the height of hurricane season in October. Places that are not really affected by the hurricane season are: Hawaii, South America (which is like DIRT cheap), the South Pacific, and Australia. You might look into some all-inclusive resorts in these areas, becasue AIs can cut down your expenses by a lot.
Mrs Spring, where are you going? I realize you must have it all figured out because your wedding is coming up!
We're going to the Sandals in Antigua! We booked through an agent as well and found some great discounts online.
We went to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico a few years back. Our resort was nice but lots of kids! The city is very active and I know there were some other nicer resorts around there.
Be careful of U.S. owned islands. They tend to not do all-inclusive and everything is pretty expensive.
Also, isn't October hurricane season? You may want to think of some places in the S. Pacific as well.
Good luck and happy planning!
We are going to Kauai and found an amazing deal on vacation rental. It was a lot cheaper than all the big resorts although condo is on the property of a resort so we get all the benefits. I actually wrote a post about it that will probably show up later today with more info.
Thailand and Indonesia are super cheap! It was definitely the most inexpensive places I have visited and everyone is so nice. Full body massages for an hour for $15, etc!
There are so many destinations that could work for you, it really just depends on personal preference and budget. At any rate it might be best to work with a travel agent on this unless you plan to do a cruise or something, alot of the cheaper places to travel in the tropics can be a bit risky (ie not all locations are created equal) and a travel agent will ensure that you are safe.
Good Luck!
If you are traveling in Oct. I would stay away from the Caribbean since it is still considered Hurricane season and honestly having 2 weeks, you should go somewhere amazing with lots to do! My fiance and i are going to Maui and Big island. The whole trip flight and hotels came to 4k with oceanviews. Or you can go to Asia which is awesome. I do agreee with going to Thailand. The beach in Phuket is beautiful! Use your points/miles wherever you can :) hope this helps! Also, try Yapta.com if you want to track prices of airline tickets AND hotels

We would like to go somewhere tropical for our honeymoon, preferably 2 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions on some places that tend to be less expensive than others? Or any suggestions on places to avoid? Honeymoon would be in beginning october.
Thanks!
