We're having a Sunday Wedding as well.
Both my family and my FI's family is going to be traveling to us for the wedding, so knowing that they had to make a long weekend of it one way or the other, we took advantage of the <slightly cheaper> Sunday rates at our Venue!
I am! We're set for the Sunday before Memorial Day, though, so kind of just to be in the middle of the 3-day weekend.
Ooh Ooh! My fiance and I are getting married on Sunday, October 11. :) I think it is a great choice of days. PLUS it is a heck of a lot cheaper! Can't say no to that!
I'm not a Sunday bride but one of my good friends just got married last Sunday and I didn't get to go because of stupid work!
I was a Sunday bride in the summer, so most people took Monday off without a problem! It was great!
hisMrs- I'm getting married on October 11 too! Yeah for Sundays!!!!
We are getting married on Sunday. I wanted that because I knew I wouldn't be ready on Saturday and I would have had to take more time off of work to be ready. Now I am only taking off two days so that I have a total of three to be ready. So much less stressful!
I am getting married on a Sunday, it was over $1000 cheaper to do so, so it was a no brainer for me & my budget! Guests that truly care about you won't mind taking a Monday off after indulging in too much alcohol
We did! 10-12-08. It was a daytime Sunday, so people were able to fly home that evening without taking off work on Monday.
I will be a Sunday bride too! *hi5* to all the Sunday brides! It's not THAT much cheaper for our reception site (we just had a lower minimum amount to meet in terms of food costs in order to use their reception hall without having to pay an extra fee). We're expecting around 200 ppl so we're not concerned about meeting the min anyway. We originally wanted the Saturday before, but it is supposed to be a super unlucky day to do happy things in the Chinese calendar? Of course we don't want to freak out our traditional and conservative Chinese relatives, so we ended up picking the day after, which happened to be a "good" day. Oh well, at least this gives me an extra day to prep! :D
I am so excited to see date twins out there. I thought October 11 would be a hard date to have a date twin since it's a Sunday, but it looks like there are several people doing the Sunday thing!!! :)
I'm entertaining the date of 10/10/2010. It's a Sunday, and the following Monday is Columbus Day, which hopefully means a lot of guests will have off!
@cindylouwho - Thank you so much for bringing Columbus day to my attention... I am getting married October 11, 2009. I didn't even realize that Columbus day was the next day. Hopefully many guests will be able to take advantage of the holiday!
I'm a Monday bride! But since it is a holiday Monday, it is like a Sunday wedding. I'm concerned about people working the next day, too. But it is saving us thousands of dollars! And we are trying to cut our guest list, too...
Thank goodness there's another monday bride! I opened a thread on the boards a few months ago about a monday wedding, and everyone was hatin' on me :(
We had planned on getting married Saturday, October 31, but it looks like it'll now be Sunday, November 1 to save on costs. At least we can still have a big party on Halloween!
@Miss Rye Bread: wow! I'm happy to hear I'm not alone! I must have missed that thread for sure I would've represented! hahah
Which Monday is your wedding? Ours is Labor Day - because the Sunday was already taken (with over 1 year booking in advanced)!
I know a few guests will be taking the Tuesday off work, and some are entertaining the idea. Some, however, want to just take a flight, or drive home (6 hours) as soon as its over.
Any bride doing an after party? And what time will your reception end? I'm planning on ending it at 10pm.
@Ms tofu: Yeah, so what's the deal with people running away so quickly after the wedding? They're going to drive 6 hrs after a wedding? I don't understand how some people can justify "oh of course I'll be at your wedding! I wouldn't miss it for the world" with "sorry, I have to leave that night - you know, got to get back to work". How about some commitment, yeah? Don't mind me, though, I'm just a little bitter. Aren't weddings supposed to be about spending time with new family? Not just watching some guy you hardly know get a ring and kiss your cousin you hardly talk to anymore and then getting boozed up.
BUT,
to answer your question, our date is Sept 21 - the idea was for it to be an "equinox" wedding. Good luck! If you ever need to talk about the popularity of monday weddings, just PM me!
While I will NOT be getting married on a Sunday, I was recently a guest at a friends wedding (which was held on a Sunday). Some advise to the bride and groom: Please do not get mad at your guests if they DO leave the wedding early! I know its your special day, but at the same time, many people work the next day, holiday or not. Besides, if all that's left on the dance floor are the newlyweds, Yay for them!
@Miss Rye Bread: How interesting! An equinox wedding! I really haven't heard of that (and had to google it).
I totally understand the leaving early and having to work the next day - but I just don't know how to accomodate that. I guess I'll figure it out! I think I'll have to contact my friends to find out which ones are taking the next day off. =)
I am a Sunday bride, I'm getting married 7/4/2010. That following Monday 7/5th should be the reserved holiday. And to the prior post who stated something about guest leaving early, I don't care(not trying to be rude). We are partiers so the people that remain I'm sure will much make up for the people who leave.
I was a Sunday bride. Got married Columbus Day weekend '08. Most of my friends are in non-profits and government- so a lot of people had Monday off.
I"m a Sunday bride as well, but it's not a holiday weekend. Most of my guests are taking Monday off and making it a long weekend. Since most of my guest are from out of town it will give them a chance to explore NY.
Hi! I'm a Sunday bride too! July 19, 2009. We are having a Chinese tea ceremony at 11am, and then the wedding ceremony at 12 noon. We didn't save much money having it on a Sunday afternoon, but we were able to coordinate our photographer and venue on the same day.
A question for all your Sunday brides - what are you doing for entertainment? We aren't doing dancing because neither of our families dance. What other options are there??
Shooting Star:
You can try having a cocktail party, with nice background music. During my cocktail hour I decided to post pictures of my guests wedding day (those that are volunteering pictures). I will post them around the room during that hour it will give people a reason to walk around and discuss the fashions, or if they were at the wedding as a guest what they remember most about the celebration.
You can also have do it yourself food. Like a fondue party. Lots of little tables with trays of treats set up, similar to what they do at the Melting Pot restaurant, ever been to one?
One of the bee's had photo sessions set-up with props where people can take their own photos, that's another fun idea.
@cindylouwho Do it! We'll be date twins! And 10/10/10 looks cool on an invitation or a save the date :) And my FH is excited about the date pick too because it sounds cool, we're saving money, and lots (not all of course) of our guests will be off the next day so it can still be a party.
I am a little nervous about the number of guests who won't be off the next day, so I might end it a 9pm so they don't have to feel awkward about leaving when they need to. Then maybe we'll just have an after party for the dedicated guests at my folks house or a local bar :)
I'm a Sunday bride too! June 28, 2009 to be exact. We are having a destination wedding and most people would have to take off a day anyways.
We are having our rehersal dinner on Friday night and relaxing on Saturday on the beach with other guests and going to dinner with our parents and family that night. Is anyone else doing their rehersal on a Friday?
Labor Day Sunday bride here! We saved $2K on our venue by doing it on Sunday!
I'm also a Sunday bride! We are doing 10-10-10 over Columbus Day weekend. Can't wait!
