Hey y’all! I graduated college a year ago with a degree in education 1st-5th. I took 2 maternity leaves between Jan and May at two different schools in the same school district. Both of thoes were 4th grade Math, Sci and SS. I didn’t enjoy either one beause of the grade I was teaching. I am definitely a lower elementary teacher, 1st or 2nd grade. This year I am in a different parish and I am teaching 2nd grade. I love the age, but I am still not enjoying my job. I feel overwhelmed all the time and there always seems to be more work after the school day. I’ve thought about going back to school to pursue a different degree. So, I was wondering, have any other teachers out there gone back to school for a different degree/career? If so, tell us what degree you obtained after being a teacher and why you decided to get another degree. TIA!

@mrsjordan53014: Hey there! So I have a similar sort of experience. I actually went back to university to do teaching. After I finished it was a pretty tough job market so I did emergency teaching. At first I didn’t mind it especially as the pay was good. But slowly I started to really hate it and it made me really doubt my feelings toward teaching and whether I really had the passion for it that I thought I did.
So far I haven’t gone back to do another degree as then it would be my THIRD time doing a university course and I just don’t have the energy. I have secured a new job in the financial sector and I hope i can progress to become a trainer. I am thinking of taking a course to become an adult educator, as I think it might be more my pace. But I am just trying to figure it all out first.
Good luck to you! Be really self critical of yourself and hopefully that will help you.
