I started WW the first time around in September ’09. I lost 30 lbs doing the old “Momentum” plan, but I got lazy about it around June ’10 and let myself backslide, and I gained back about 10 lbs.
So, I decided this week that I needed to head back, and so far I’m really happy with the new plan… except that I have tons of points left at the end of the day!
For those of you who never did the old plan, veggies and fruits used to cost you points. Even the 0 point veggies would start to add points after you ate a certain amount.
Now, no matter how much I put into the online tracker, it still says 0 points (I tested it and tried putting 500 lbs of watermelon in, and it still said 0!!!)
So, here is my dilemma: I love fresh fruit, so I’m eating that as breakfast, little snacks, and sides. I’m not pigging out or anything, I’m just eating enough to be satisfied (like my leader said to do).
But on most days, I’m ending up with like 10-16 points left!
Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
I asked a friend who has been doing WW for a while, and she said I am supposed to use all my points… but that would require eating when I’m already full!
I just wanted to see if any other WW bees have run into this issue, and how you handled it.

Here is an example of what I ate yesterday:
3 cups of fruit (eaten over the course of the day): 0 points
Leftover Roasted Turkey from Bob Evan’s (basically about 2-3ish oz of roasted turkey with barely any gravy on it) : about 1 point
Leftover mashed potatoes (about 1/2 the portion) : 2 points
3 oz of non-fat frozen yogurt : 3 points
1 serving of Rigatoni with Italian Sausage and Kale (a WW recipe) : 8 points
Daily Points left: 16

I don’t see any breakfast on that list. Are you eating only fruit for breakfast? You should be having some protein and/or whole grains.
Are you correctly assigning points? I am not familiar with the new program, but 3 oz of turley with some gravy used to be more than 1 point . Ditto for the mashed potatos.

Honestly, fruit and veggies are “free” but they still do have calories. I’ve been doing WW as well as counting calories simultaneously as a temporary experiment to measure the difference. I always have about 3 points left at the end of the day and I’m too full to eat (I get 29pts a day), but I’m still losing weight (slowly but surely at about 1lb a week).
If you’re calculating everything else correctly, I wouldn’t worry too much. Have you been consistently seeing loss?
And as the PP said, adding more whole grains wouldn’t hurt. What I do is add a spoonful of granola (1pt-ish) to my yogurt in the morning, with a side of fruit. Filling and tasty. 🙂

I had a similar problem and have actually had a lot of trouble losing weight on the new plan! I feel like all I do is eat- which is a good thing, but it has been a tough adjustment… I think the point of the change is to get you to eat more protein, so i have been trying to implement that into my diet… Ugh, can’t wait for the points-free honeymoon 🙂

@julies1949: The fruit was my breakfast, yes. I’m not a big breakfast eater, so typically something small like a banana or an apple is more than enough to get to through till lunchtime.
Also, I found the points for the turkey on WW online tracker. It said that the ala carte turkey (just the meat, to stuffing) from Bob Evan’s was 3 points, and i had only eaten half of that at BE. The gravy I had put on with my fork just to add a little for flavor, so there was less than a teaspoon when I put it on at the restaurant, and even less at home.
Same goes for the mashed potatoes- it was about half of the restaurant portion.
But even if I tracked that wrong, it’s still not 16 points worth!

@techie: I have 29pts as well. I feel like I am getting a decent amount of protien (eating meat, and the rigatoni recipe had red beans in it) but I suppose I probably am skipping the whole grains. I’m just not a big breakfast person, so typically when I get whole grains it’s b/c I’m having a sandwich at lunchtime.
This is my first week back on it, so I’ve been seeing a loss, but I’m not sure how consistent it will be long term. I’ve lost a little over 2 lbs since Monday, at this point.

Because of my height and starting weight, I started with the max points (49) and have had trouble getting them all in one day. I’m at 45 points now since I’ve lost 20 pounds. My menu?
1/2 cup egg beaters
2 pieces of turkey sausage
2 pieces of dry toast
1 cup of black coffee
6oz grilled chicken on salad or 6oz grilled chicken wrap.
Laughing cow cheese with grapes and kashi crackers or a tall glass of soy milk with almonds.
Depends. Sometimes we go out. Sometimes it’s baked chicken, veggies, salad, baked porato or hamburgers (93/7) or whatever else I can manage to cook out of the book
After dinner snack: Usually a weight watchers bar or icecream bar.
Then I do about 1 to 2 hours of exercise a day so I have massive activity points.
Even after all of that, I still have points left, but I’m losing about 2 pounds a week so I’m not going to question it.
I have only tapped into my weekly points twice in the last 9 weeks.

My answer would be to add booze, but that’s counterproductive, I’m sure.

@Miss Tattoo: 49! I can’t imagine!! I’m at the minimum points (29) and I’m having trouble eating enough!
Some days are better than others, I suppose… it really all hinges on how much fruit I’ve been eating….
Let’s just say that I *really* like watermelon, and I bought one last week, and now it is gone. On the days when I didn’t eat as much fruit, I used more points.
I lost 1.8 lbs this week, and I had a rough day on Saturday b/c we went to a cookout where *nothing* was healthy, so taking that into consideration I think I did pretty well this week.

@helenberrycrunch: LOL took the words out of my mouth! 🙂
I wish I had so many leftover points….I’m always negotiating the last few points of the day…oink oink.

@Evie19: I used to do that on the old plan, too… I’m was seriously shocked the first day I had so many left over!
I’ve been doing a little better lately… but the one downside to having lots of points left is that it’s so tempting to fill it with junk food…. or booze 😀

I mean if you are under pts b/c you’re eating a lot of fruit I think that’s fine. I think they say use all your pts so you don’t do the oh I”m going to eat under my pts to lose weight faster. As long as you’re not hungry and starving yourself you shoudl be fine. You can also go to a mtg in your area to ask one of the meeting leaders for a formal WW answer.
Also how many points do you have? I think I’m on the min of 29 pts, you can base it on that instead if you have more than that.
