SO and I are off to Maui for eight days in a couple weeks and neither of us have ever been. My parents were going and invited us along. I’m starting to get really excited. Anybody ever been? Any tips on what to do, see, eat??? Are there any “must see/do” activities or restaurants? We have nothing planned so far except sunshine and relaxation.

There are lots of Beaches 🙂
Are you renting a Car? All the fun shopping, resturants and the port where all the fun boats leave from are in Lahaina.

Yes. My hubby and I went to Maui when were dating…we stayed not far from kihei, which was a cute little town. Had a great breakfast at Kihei Caffee. I’d definitely recommend having a rental car to get around Maui, for a special dinner you might want to check out Wailea – we had an amazing dinner at the Fairmont Kea Lani and another at the Four Seasons. Maui is beautiful, but a bit slow for my husband’s taste at times. It was relaxing and I loved the beaches, food, and snorkeling – but everything seemed to close down at 10pm…unlike a lot of vacation destinations where you can relax and adventure during the day and party at night.
Stuff that we enjoyed: road to Hanna/black sand beach, Sunset on Mt. Haleakala (bring layers it is really cold up there), breakfast in Kihei, dinner in Wailea, and the nude beach on the other side of Big Beach. Have fun!

I’ve been to Maui four times and it is by far my favorite island! However personally I’m not a fan of Kihei because that part of Maui is small and seems a tad bid run down compared to Lahaina which is only about 10 minutes away. The beaches in Kihei are murky and not very pleasant to swim in. I’d suggest spending time in Lahaina! It’s beautiful with plenty of cute shopping, dining, and GORGEOUS beaches. I’d recommend Uluani’s shaved ice, pineapple coconut cheesecake from the Royal Lahaina, and visiting Downtown Lahaina to shop along the beach and watch the sunset.

Thanks ladies! Yes we are renting a Jeep so I suppose we will definitely be checking out Lahaina now that I know there is more going on there than Kihei. Is the road to Hanna drive really amazing? How long does it take to do the whole thing? SO and I both love fishing…have any of you done that and could you give recommendations for good fishing outfits??
