Anybody Else Having To or Had To Get the Butt Shot?

I get to. I'm AB- (blood type) and my husband is O+ so I automatically get the shot in the hip/butt area once, which is coming up, and then if the baby is positive, which is highly likely, I have to get another shot at labor. Anybody else? Please tell me it's not as bad as it sounds... :)

I had to get a steroid shot in the butt once for an allergic reaction I had to something. My face EXPLODED in hives! It hurt because it was a big needle to get through all that faaaaaat, but I guess it wasn't that bad.

Butt shots are nothing. The fat helps. Arms hurt way more.

@MissHoneyBun: Yeh, but they made it sound like it was closer to the hip... Mine kind of protrude, so I'm scared.

while I was living in costa rica i had to get shots in the butt all the time! They don't do pills or anything for antibotics. they do butt shots! They aren't that bad! you may feel akward, i did, and then have some slight pain after, but it is not that bad! I promise!

I have to get this. It's believed that the butt is the best place for a shot because of the "extra padding" lol :)

i got it a few weeks ago- and it was more like hip/butt area.  I didn't know it was going to be there so it was a funny moment when I presented my arm and the nurse said "nope not there..."  thank goodness I had on cute undies :)   Anyway the nurse said it would hurt later, and it didn't.  and the shot itself didn't hurt at all either.  She said I would be sore in that area and asked me what side I slept on.  I told her the wrong side and was worried I would be uncomfortable that night- but I didn't feel achey or bruised or anything!  easy peasy!!

@beesknees: I am really glad to hear that. I didn't do well with the blood being drawn... It actually really hurt (the one where they took multiple vials) so I dread most of these needle interactions.

I got a B12/B6 shot yesterday on the left side, and it sucked. However, last week I had it on the right side and I barely felt it.

What's the "butt shot" do exactly? I had to open this post and see what "butt shot" you meant since there are several :)

If I'm O+ will I have to get when I have kids?

I've had this shot and it really really wasn't that bad. I'm also AB- and it was given to me"just in case" after my medical abortion to prevention sensitization and complications with future pregnancies.

I also am a HUGE wimp when it comes to needles. I used to pass out and cry and shriek and kick. Totally terrified of needles. This shot..really.. not so bad. I had it in the arm.

I had to have a steroid shot in the butt last year. It didn't hurt at all when the nurse gave me the shot. But it only took about 10 minutes for the area to become sore. It was tender to touch but it wasnt unbearable or anything. (As far as I can remember) It was fine by the time I went to sleep that night. I am a big baby when it comes to shots! It's a big deal for me to say it didnt hurt!

P.S. I'm super glad you posted this! I'm coming up on my Rhogam shot too and was wondering about the location today!

@zuzubelle: No, it's the negative part in AB- (or B-, A- etc etc) that makes it so your body could have a reaction to the fetus and basically try to destroy it causing a miscarriage.

Now that I think about it though, I'm pretty sure my Mom had to do something special because my blood was O+ when she was pregnant......I have so much to learn about having babies....

I will have to get that shot also.

In terns of getting "butt shots" in general....they are really not bad. I used to be the depo shot...every 3 months for 6 years. I found that the shot in the butt hurt less than the arm :-)

Yep, I "get" to have the shot too (A-, hubs i O+).  I'm not really looking forward to it.  I've had one other shot in the butt and that was like 15 years ago...and I cried.   My husband will be there with me when I get it...I tell him it is his fault I have to get it so he has to hold my hand.

I am not sure this is the something, but my mom used to joke about how my dad had to chase her around the house with a needle to give her a shot in the butt which helped her concieve. Thus, this is how I was made :]

I have a lot to learn too, I believe, about literally...making babies! I don't know what blood type I am sadly, although bf knows he is a O+

I got it 2 weeks ago, didn't hurt a bit but I definitely thought it was going to be in the upper arm.

Both my husband and myself are - blood types so I am really not sure why my MD was adamant about my needing it since we are compatible.

@farmgirl2106: I am O negative and had to get the rhogam shots as well. I lucked out and my baby girl is also O negative so I didn't get a second shot. I will have to go through the rhogam shots again for any other pregnancies. I thought my shot was going to be in the butt but they did it in the arm!!! I was so happy haha. But my friend had it done both ways and said the arm her worse (and she is a tiny girl)

I'm so happy to hear that it isn't that bad for the majority of ladies. I don't think my OB/GYN offers the arm version, but it is good to know that one is worse. :)

Don't know if it's good or bad that I'm seeing this now. We won't be TTC until after the wedding, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to have this wonderful little shot. Boo. FI will def have to go with me, like @MzMarzipan said, it's his fault ;)

I meant to post last week, but I had my RhoGam shot last Tuesday. It was a butt shot & it didn't hurt at all! I didn't even feel it. (:

That's funny, I actually just had the shot last Thursday. It was also the same day as my gestational diabetes test. My butt was a little sore for about 15 minutes after I left (so yes, I felt it), but my arm killed the whole day because the needle got wiggled a little while they switched the vials. But, at least it is over for now. :)

Yeah, shots in the butt definitely hurt a lot LESS than shots in the arm!  I had the depo shot for four years and half the time I got it in the butt, half the time in the arm (just depended on what I was comfortable with that day) - my arm was always sore and achy for a few days afterwards.  With the butt shot, I never felt anything - and trust me, they use a BIG needle for that, so I am sure you will be fine!
