Hahah, yes I think of a mummy when I see a mermaid or trumpet dress!  I also can’t for the life of me figure out how someone would dance or sit in one of those things :/  I had an A-line & loved being able to move freely.  I also have fairly wide hips so anything clinging to them just would NOT look good.

When I see wrap dresses I think of “Mummy” some look really cute and others I’m like “My 2 year old could make a better dress than that”.

I dislike “wrap like” dresses or dress that appear to be wrapped for this very reason.

Also, ruffles that cut off at the knee make me imagine that the person wearing it is sinking into a pool of fabric and is trying to wade out.

what is a mummy wrap dress?? I think of divina as it looks uncomfortable and is like a mummy with its unwrapping coming apart on the bottom.

@beachbride1216:  My FI said this exact statement when I showed him Maggie Sottero’s Divina. It was a ruched bodice and he said it looked like a mummy. Sucks, because I think ruching can really help to create a flawless looking tummy area but oh well.

Finally! I have always felt that way about “mummy” dresses. I know that many brides look stunning in them, but as a style, I can’t stand them.

Love that comment, so funny! Now I’ll never be able to see one of those dresses without wanting to throw the person a stick or a horse rein to pull them to safety. 🙂

@Hyperventilate: What the heck, it’s Friday and I didn’t sleep that well last night – time to give in to quicksand silliness! 🙂

I actually love ruching but they generally never make me think of a mummy.

I think I’ve only seen a couple of dresses that had made me think of a mummy…and it was because it was wrapped (I wouldn’t consider that to be the same as ruching) and the fabric was very gauzy looking.

I guess then I have that kind of a dress…its fit and flare and has ruffles. I do not care what anyone thinks, I think its the most gorgeous dress for me 🙂
