This may be the nerdiest response you get, but I would totally draw it out. Get some graph paper so you can make everything in the right dimension and then arrange and rearrange everything until it looks right. I think you would want the tables convenient to both the buffet tables and the dance floor. Depending on what you are serving, you might want to space out the buffet tables so the line won't back up as easily.
Martha Stewart weddings has a reception layout template that allows you to place little tables on a grid and change the sizes, etc. It helped me a lot with my planning!!
Also, I think Mrs. Gummi Bear had long tables - maybe you could check out her pics and see if they show enough of the layout to use as inspiration.
Thanks girls! Charmedlife, I was thinking of that the other day when one of my favorite blogs, Young House Love, posted on how they do a grid paper layout plan before decorating a room...everything to scale and mini tables cut out of paper that they can move around to try different layouts. I am going to for sure do that, although I'll be testing my 8th grade math skills trying to size everything down to scale, haha.
Thanks Laylabelle, I will definitely check out Mrs. Gummi Bear's posts now!!!
yep, i have been to a wedding like this and no one had a problem at all.. it was actually quite fun and family like. i think they had small gaps between every table just so people could walk around it. i definitely think maybe put two together and then a gap for people to walk around or else your guests would have to traipse up 16 long tables to get around...

So, I'm planning my own wedding, with only a day-of coordinator. Our wedding is at my grandma's house, which has a pretty large, rectangular lawn, about 200' by 350' where all the tables will go. I'm gonna have 16 long rectangular tables, 8' each. I was thinking of putting em into two really long tables, but I'm worried that people won't be able to get around them easily. Have you ever been to a wedding with really long tables? How was it? I'm also struggling as to where to put the dance floor, the candy buffet, the dinner buffet tables and the head table. Does anybody know of any good websites that show some sample layouts that are tried-and-true? I don't want to screw up the layout of all these tables and create traffic jams or anything. My family will be setting everything up two days before the wedding. Thanks for your help ladies!
