Yup! I just started the fourth book. I, too, started reading the series because of the HBO show, but probably for different reasons -- I would love to be on it! :)
Love the series, although I do have some qualms with it. But I won't go into detail to avoid spoiling it for other ladies!
My FI is! I'll just stick to the show.
He loves it though. He's totally into it. He's on the third book, I think, but he's taking a break to read a book with me.

I got into these books a few years ago, though I haven't read the latest one. I've pre-ordered the season 1 DVDs from Amazon, and am eagerly awaiting them!
I'm one of those people who actually had to re-read all four books before reading the fifth book because of the ridiculous 5 or so years lag between the 4th and 5th! It's ok, you definitely can't put it down once you've started, but maybe that's just the voracious reader in me :)
The HBO series, I find, focus wayyy too much sex, and added in so many more steamy sex scenes that aren't really in the book. That said, I like my imagination better anyway :p
No, I couldn't get in to it. I may try again, but for some reason, even though it has all the ingredients, it just wasn't my thing.

Yea, I heard about a lot of sex in the show, so when I was reading the book I expected some really great scenes and... not so much.
What sex scenes? I got the book from the library based on some rec's from the bee and also some other folks. However, I shall not watch the TV show for a while until the finish reading all the series. I don't want the show to mess with my imagination :)
@bRooklynRocks:The first season is just based on the first book so if you just read the first book first you should be fine :) I've read the first 2 books and DH and I just finished watching the first season last weekend and we loved it! There is a lot a lot of sex in the TV show but I don't remember it being that much in the books.
I'm reading them too! I'm on the first one though... I'm lucky that my husband has read them and has all the books, so i can relax and read them at my own pace, and he can explain things too me (so many people and places! I'm still learning...).
I will watch the show after I finish the first book.

With an hour commute to work every day he has plenty of time to listen to books on tape. lol I loved the series and can't wait for season two to start! :)

@Baileyh: The first book is called A Game of Thrones.
I started reading about a month ago and am about 3/4 through the third book. I love the series!! I thought that the removal of the father's cloak and bequeathing the husband's cloak would be a nice winter wedding touch for a big fan. :)
I'm about 150 pages into the first book. I had a hard time getting into it at first, but now that the ball is rolling I'm enjoying it. I'm not enamored with it, but knowing how many people love the series, I'm keeping my mind open about it and hoping it'll come!
This is my favorite book series so far! I've read all the way through A Dance With Dragons and have S1 of the show on pre-order. I think HBO has done a fantastic job so far and can't wait for S2!
I hear that season 2 will follow closely with the second book just like season 1 and book 1. Excited!
Read them a few years ago. They are my boyfriends favorite book series so I had two choices. A) read them and jump on the awesome train or B) dont read them and he dumps me lol. Im glad I read them they're amazing. And the latest book finallycame out last year. We were so glad HBO did the boojuju stoics but you miss SOOOOOO much.
I am halfway through the second book. I am enjoying it, but I find certain parts to be deeply disturbing. Also, most of the main characters are jerks.
LOVE Game of Thrones. Re-reading the series at the moment. Half way through book 4. Looking forward to season 2 starting on HBO.
I'm all caught up so far. I haven't gotten to watch the show at all, but we're planning on buying the first season. The books frustrate me to no end, but five books in and I can't stop now! I'll be reading in the bedroom while Mister is on the computer and I come in irritated and yell "What the hell!!!" Mister will just ask who Martin has killed off this time. Ugh.
FI got and I got hooked...then we bought a white german shepherd and named him Ghost. We are such nerds hahaha
@medsie35: OMG your the only other person I know of who got a White GSD called Ghost! We did the same!!
Love the series. I've read the first four books twice and I am halfway through A Dance with Dragons. I just can't get into the last book though. I'm hoping it picks up but I've spent months trying to get through it. Love the series though and loved the first season of the HBO TV series as well! Can't wait for season two in April!
I am SO close to finishing Book 5... maybe I'll start a spoiler-filled discussion thread when I do!!!
I'm slowly making my way through the first book. I got the first 4 for Christmas after watching the HBO series with DH. I'm enjoying it so far! I find it very similar to the TV show so far, so I'm interested to see where the differences are.

I'm a little over halfway through the first book. I love it so far! I started reading it because of the show on HBO. I haven't watched the show yet but when I finish the book I will (I'm the kind of person who prefers to read the book first, watch the movie/show second).
I just wanted to see how many ladies on here are into it, too :)
