OMG I tried it for about a day! You can eat barely anything without diarrhea (so tmi, but just to let you know). i bought it from wal-greens and returned it (i think they have a longer return policy). when i was returning it the manager said a lot of people had been returning it for the same reason. i hear that you can basically wait and keep trying foods to see what it reacts to etc but i just hated it.
Oh, well, FI's sister used Alli for a bit.
Good news: It works!
Bad news: She had to carry around an extra pair of underwear...and was constantly running to the bathroom. Ultimately she wishes she had just bought laxitives, they're cheaper!
Good luck and beware!
Alli basically makes it so that your body can't store what fat you eat in the meal after you take one of the pills, which means that if you have a really fatty meal (say, cheese pizza!) it may, er, pass out of you quickly.
That being said, it does speed up weight loss and keep you honest (provided you take the pills instead of skipping them if you cheat) but fundamentally eating right is up to you. I recommend starting with switching out bad eating habits for good ones - more whole grains, lean proteins, smaller meals more frequently, etc. - and see how you do on your own.
Personally, I do better cooking at home because I know everything that goes into what I'm eating. I also love love love healthy options like tofu prepared lots of different ways.
I've heard TERRIBLE things about it. I had a friend that was about to take it, and I did research for her because it made me nervous... and it was not pretty.
Basically, not to mince words, but it basically makes you poop your pants. "Leakage" is a big side-effect. If you google it, there are tons of forums/people talking about it where they'd say they had to bring extra pants/underwear to work.

I know someone who used it, and OMG - if you inadvertently eat too much fat it basically causes the excess fat to leak out of your rectum ...
They actually have warnings to wear dark coloured pants and avoid sitting on light coloured furniture!?!?!
Not for me!!
Ah! My friend had told me about having to go to the bathroom often, I wasn't sure if that was real or not! That really stinks! :( Yeah, I might just do sit-ups instead of being miserable! :( Maybe that'll get me to where I want to be in 2 months.
Also, if you read it, the weight loss from alli is pretty minimal, and takes awhile. Just eat better and more low-sodium, and go to the gym. From all of the pics you've showed, you're tiny and look great already. :)
Yeah it's really not supposed to have that much of a laxative effect - well, unless you eat fatty foods and you therefore get punished in the form of diarrhea.
I wouldn't do it unless you're at least 30 lbs overweight. It's still a serious drug. If you're only looking to lose a little bit, just adjust your diet and exercise!
I use it. I do not poop my pants. I have control over my bowels. If you make a blanket assumption that everyone who uses it will have leakage problems, you are making a mistake.
Aw thanks @scissors! I just hate that little bit of pudge at the bottom of my tummy..it's not bad, it's just something I wish would go away! I'm sure you ladies know what I'm talking about!!
Yeah, I don't think it's something I'll be trying anytime soon...thank you guys SO much for your help!! Yall are always so helpful!!
@Angela---Great post! Thanks for contributing. It's great to know that Alli can work for some people.
Yes that's good to know! I'm glad that you have no problems with it! Have you seen any improvement yet?
It can be a great resource for people who are willing to use it as directed. It will not help you lose that small amount of weight, however.
The thing is, if you eat something with a high fat content, a larger amount of fat will be excreted. I am conscious of that and I moniter my fat intake. I have lost around 20 lbs using a combination of Atkins (first) and Alli (doing that now).
Man I tried it and didn't care for it at all. And it can't tell the difference between good and bad fat. Some fats are very healthy for you and actually help fight belly fat, like olive oil.
Yeah... I've heard nothing but terrible things about it! Butt leakage... isn't cute!
Someone else asked about this the other day, so I copied my response...
I have not tried this product, however, I am working on my Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and this product is sold in some of the pharmacies I have been in.
Basically, the medication causes you to REALLY think about what you are eating. There are a lot of not-so-nice side effects that are associated with this medication, but they are much worse if you eat incorrectly (more than 15g of fat per meal) while on the medication. Basically the medication prevents some of the fat from being absorbed in the intestines.
Two important points to consider: there have been reports of serious liver injury with people taking this medication, and the FDA is currently running a safety review. Second, on the prescription strength version (Xenical), people lost approximately 6 pounds more in one year than with diet and exercise alone. It's not a miracle drug by any means. It's really important to consider if the side effects you will experience (diarrhea, gas with oily spotting, etc) is worth the extra few pounds.
Here is an easy-to-read website about the product. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/alli/WT00030
Hope that helps (and sorry if it's TMI!).
I don't think that Alli would really help you if you only have a little bit of weight to lose. I think the best way to work on the tummy pooch is regular counting calories and cardio exercise.
@Lees- No problem! Even small diet changes for you (based on what you've said) could make a crazy difference. Up the fiber and lower the sodium, try to minimize the unhealthy stuff, and see how that works. Maybe also add in a morning or evening walk with your honey, that's fun and some exercise.
@angela- Sorry, didn't mean to offend. That's just what everything I read said.
I'm still just such a big proponent of exercise and healthier eating for weight-loss. I've lost 45 lbs since August by doing that!
I've also heard really horrible things about it and it sounds unsafe. In the way that laxatives force you to use the bathroom, I've heard you pretty much have no control when taking Alli and people have found themselves going in their clothes while sitting. Basically, diapers are required.
I had the same issue - just wanting to flatten the tummy a bit pre-wedding (and slim the hips a tad!:) My friend introduced me to Core 4 - and I love it! I lost an inch in my waist and 8 pounds in the first 3 weeks. :) Not to mention the energy it give me! PM me if you want more info :)
The best way to battle that little bit of pudge in your belly (right below the belly button? I'm assuming this is what you are talking about)...is to combine cardio with abs...doing crunches alone won't get rid of that pooch. Even if it is doing a few 100 jumping jacks in your room to get your heart rate up, that will help, followed by some crunches. To target that particular area, do reverse crunches (where you bring your legs up to you instead of sitting up like a regular crunch)...when I do those I can really feel it in the area right below my belly button.
Yea like everyone else said...I heard that it works however...your bowel movements are real oily and you frequently mess up your underwear and pants.
Basically, not to mince words, but it basically makes you poop your pants.
@scissors, I just laughed, really loud. Your comment made me think of that Activia skit on SNL where Kristen Wiig, as Jamie Lee Curtis, just declares, "OOPS I POOPED MY PANTS!"
Lol @ MissACS
It makes me think of the "Ooops I crapped my pants" skit on SNL.

If you're worried strictly about your abs, Tamilee Webb has AWESOME ab workouts! I only do her workouts for abs, b/c I'm not into the pilaties and breathing exercises. They just don't work for me! I'm not sure if you have Comcast in your area, but in the ondemand section, they have exerciseTV, and she's on there every month. I swear by her!
Oh wow. I will most definitely not be trying Alli... EVER! Thats for the heads up! I'd rather lose weight the old fashioned way and not poo myself, LOL, gross.
Thanks @2Peas!!! Maybe if I go out and buy a workout video it'll motivate me to actually do it :) That may be what I need! Thanks to ALL of you!

Or if yall have any other suggestions it'd be great! I don't have a regular work out nor do I really watch what I eat (& YES I should) but I have a fast metabolism right now! I'm just wanting to get rid of a little fat!
