Aww, that’s so sweet of them!

I’m sure no one will expect you to know anyone’s names — but maybe you could ask FMIL to bring some of those “My name is” sticky name tags, just to make things easier for you?

That’s really sweet that they want to throw you a shower, but yikes, that would be so uncomfortable! Just make sure your FI knows how to make sure it looks you know their names when you really don’t…like when someone walks up, he should say, “So-and-so, so good to see you again! And how is Mrs. So-and-so?” That gives you a chance to pick up on their names really quickly.

i would just smile to everyone, and try to meet them! it sounds nice. enjoy.

everyone will try to talk to you!

People will not expect you to know all their names. I was in the exact same situation when the ladies of my ex’s church hosted a shower.

For the gift opening, I just made sure that my then FI’s sister sat beside me so after I opened a gift, she could say quietly to me-“the lady with the pink dress sitting in front of the piano” and I could turn and say ” Thanks so much Mrs Smith- these towels are beautiful and will match our kitchen”.

I am having the same problem.  My FMIL’s friends are throwing me a shower.  I just received the guest list and there 57 people on it (17 are people that I’ve invited) and there are lots of names of people that either I don’t know or have met once or twice.  I don’t feel like this is a shower for me at all since I won’t know most of the people there!!!
