I've been, and I absolutey loved it! I got bit like crazy by bugs when we were in the rain forest, but being on the island was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Do it! The snorkeling is absolutely amazing :) Have a blast!!!
We'd be going in September. Any idea of weather then? Of course the guy at the island/hotel said it would be sunny and beautiful but Lonely Planet said it was rainy season. Island dude said that if/when it does rain, it's just an intense hour or two. What island did you go to?
We went to Ambergris Caye last end of August...it was GORGEOUS! There are TONS of things to do...snorkeling, boating, tours, ziplines, etc...but nothing was included for us and it was all pretty pricey...but totally worth it!
we stopped there on a cruise last summer. we felt very unsafe in that port, and even turned around from walking downtown area. people tried to sell us drugs, prostitutes...everything!!
i dont want to go back
and ive been to some iffy port cities. this was by far the worst
but, some people really enjoyed it, but they did excursions.
We went to Belize in February 2009. We did not go to any of the tiny cayes, but talked to a lot of travelers who went to Tabacco Caye and places like that and everyone seemed to like it. The only problem (if you call it that) is you are pretty much stuck with one option for food/drink. The private islands are probably really small, so you might get bored after a few days. I would, but that's a personal preference.
We had a great time in Belize. Caye Caulker was really fun, no cars, but only one spot to swim. The beaches in Belize aren't the greatest in general. San Ignacio/Cayo District was surprisingly the best part of our trip. We had a rental car which made getting around very easy. It's a very small country with only 3 paved highways, its almost impossible to get lost. The Mayan ruins at Carocal were very cool. The ATM cave tour was amazing, I can't recommend it more highly - most locals agree the tour will be closed to the public in the next couple of years. Hope you have a fabulous honeymoon!

We found a private island we could rent for our honeymoon just off the coast in Belize. Has anyone done anything like this? Any recommendations? It sounds AMAZING!
