Fiance and I have decided on having our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta, I have been to many parts of Mexico but it will be my first time in PV. Fiance agreed to let me do all the planning and surprise her with my plans. Right now I’m thinking about booking the Dreams Resort and I want to plan some excursions, I really want us to swim with the dolphins. I’ve wanted to do it since I was a kid and I know she will really love it. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on other places to stay or what else to do while we are there?
We are on a limited budget so we will only be staying 3 nights, but I’m hoping to save enough to make it 4 nights. I really want her to have a great time there. I’m Mexican American and I really want her to see just how beautiful Mexico can be and maybe get a better understanding of my culture and why I love it so much. She’s only been to Mexico once as a teenager and it was on a mission trip to Tijuana, so she really hasn’t experienced the beauty that Mexico has to offer.

Ohhhh I loved my trip to Puerta Vallerta when I was there! I went with a gf about 5 years ago. We swam with dolphins, ziplined, rode ATVs, and layed out on the beach and had all inclusive. It wasn’t much more expensive for the all inclusive. THe weather was perfect it rained a bit each day then was sunny and beautiful kinda like Hawaii. The people were very nice. DON’T take the $20 day boat ride that’s supposed to be like a party/booat ride to another island for the day. IT WAS AWFUL!! WE booked our excursions thru the hotel and paid cash and got a 20% discount. Oh we also did like a little spa thing too. WAy worth it!!

There has been a lot of talk about violence/crime in PV since 22 Carnival cruisers were robbed while on tour there. The cruiselines pulled out for a while but are now back making regular stops there.
I found PV to be nice enough, not my favorite place in Mexico and not the most beautiful. If you want beauty go to Zihuatanejo, very pretty there.

We went to Dreams Puerto Vallarta in 2009 when we got engaged and I loooooooooved it. It was my favorite resort I’ve ever been to.
I wrote some info on the resort (and lots of pics) here: http://fifteenminuteplan.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/mexico-recap-also-known-as-the-sunset-album/
And about the excursion we did here: http://fifteenminuteplan.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/the-birthday-post/

@CorgiTales: Thanks for sharing your blogs! FI and I vacation the same way too, it’s all about seeing the sights and museums and it’s always lots and lots of walking. We also usually stay at inexpensive hotels, because we are there to see the city not to spend all day in a hotel. Part of why I asked if I could surprise her with the hotel is because I really want to go all out. I want to rent one of the rooms with the jacuzzi on the balcony and if I told her about it she would try to convince me that we don’t need it! I’m really looking forward to just relaxing after the wedding, I want to plan some excersions but mostly I just want to drink some pina coladas and relax!

I love puerto vallarta!!!I have only been once with girlfriends and we had so much fun. I don’t remember the name of the resort we were at but it wasn’t that expensive & was safe and very nice. Gorgeous beach!! You will love it 🙂

My boyfriend and I went over the summer and LOVED it! We stayed at the Garza Blanca resort, got a great deal from Groupon, and did the all inclusive.
We went zip lining, and if I could have gotten him off the beach we would have swam with dolphins. Also, check out the zoo they will let you feed and hold the baby tigers!

@MandaPanda89: Thanks for telling me about the zoo! I would have never thought to go, I’ve mostly been looking at planing relaxing and beach type activities. FI and I love zoos, almost every vacation we have been to we have gone to the local zoo.

@lybarra: I forgot to add that you should check Trip Advisor for activities. That’s where we found out about the zoo and our ziplining trip.

I was in Puerto Vallarta about 7 years ago, with my best friend. We were 20 at the time, and had a blast. It was our first trip out of the country & to Mexico.. Since then I’ve been to Cancun, and prefer Cancun. PV was much more laid back and quiet, and we were looking for more of the party atmosphere — but quiet is perfect for a honeymoon! We did an excursion where we went on a booze cruise & snorkled, it was fun! Overall we really enjoyed our trip and PV was a great place to go.

Thanks for all the replies, the more I research I do the longer I want to stay! Originally our plan was just to stay for three nights and just lounge around the hotel and beach. Now that I keep finding things I want to do I talked to Fiance about saying for 4 nights. Then I keep finding more things I want to do and am trying to work it out in my budget to stay for 5 nights!
