(Closed) Anyone change their name by mail?

When I legally changed my name four years ago, I changed my name with the SS office via the mail.  Fill out the application carefully, mail certified copies of EVERYTHING, and send it via certified mail with a return receipt.  If they give you any kind of crap, and you have followed the instructions, don’t be afraid to mail it back, with a letter stating that you provided all relevant information (for example: My dad doesn’t have a middle name, and so I left that blank on the application – they mailed it back and told me they needed that info, and I mailed it back to THEM with a letter saying he didn’t have a middle name).

It takes time, but if you’re not in a rush – it’s pretty easy.
