I’m trying to find something to do to tone up (especially my abdominal area) but I’m not trying to loose weight and I hear that pilates can be good for that. What is your experience with pilates? How long does it take to see results? How long do your pilate sessions last?

I love pilates. I generally got to a one hour class at the gym and then periodically do videos from ExerciseTV on demand – it’s the best. I really like it because you can feel a difference in your body getting stronger as you do the exercizes more. I have not stuck with it consistently enough to see results, but I really enjoy it.

i do! my sister is a certified pilates instructor and she kicks my butt everytime.
however, pilates itself isn’t all that calorie burning. it’s great for building muscle which will later help you burn more, but you shouldn’t count on pilates alone.
mix it up with a little cardio! all you need is like 20-30 minutes to kick start your body into fat burning mode.

I have just started doing pilates consistently this month. It is so great for the core strength. The classes I go to are about an hour long. Haven’t really seen any results yet though.

I’ve found Pilates mostly helps me with posture, which will make your mid section look slimmer. It also seems to help prevent my back/neck pain. We are doing private lessons on the “machine” before we started trying for a baby, so it should help with that, too!

I tried pilates for a while but realized I needed to lose more weight now and tone later. I think I can be really helpful. Sessions at my gym lasted about 55 minutes and most of the moves use your core muscles to do them. That’s why it is so good if you are working on your stomach.
