I and my SO are originally from different countries. We went to school and work here in the US so we have a big pool of friends here as well. When it came to the wedding the conclusion was to have one in each country…also coz it’s an interfaith marriage and our parents wanted to have a traditional ceremony respecting each other’s beliefs. We did decide that the first wedding (my SO’s family hosted it) was just for the 2 immediate family to formally meet and get to know each other (there’s a huge language barrier as well so me and SO translate back and forth). All our friends, extended family, and family friends will be invited to the second wedding in my hometown. To add to that confusion our two weddings are like a year apart.
Anyone in a similar situation? Can anyone relate? How do you…
- announce. Do you address yourselves as husband and wife after the first wedding? Do you wear your bands yet? What do you tell people?
- answer “But aren’t you guys ALREADY married?” when you invite your friends to the second wedding. Or when you take another long leave at work for your second wedding. We told our friends (mostly our guests to the second wedding) about our first wedding…how do we keep our guests excited?
- get the inspiration and energy to do the process more than once? We didn’t plan that well and are tackling the weddings one by one since they are such a different size, style and theme. I have not done anything for the second wedding yet (which my family is hosting) and I’m starting to feel a bit out of it, we have to go through all the tension and stress again!!
I just had my first wedding in September and my mom asked me if my guest list for the second wedding is done yet…yikes~
