I have been eating pretty strictly Paleo for the past two years (no processed foods, grains, legumes, etc). I am pretty averse to nausea and vomiting in general and morning sickness was/is the thing I fear the most about pregnancy. I am 7w4d, and so far no MS (*fingers crossed). I have lost my appetite though, and nothing is appetizing to me. However, I am wondering if being paleo (which is semi low carb) is having anything to do with this. I have read that low carb prevents some of the hormonal and glucose fluctuations that contribute to MS? Does anyone have experience with this?

@stellabella: I was the opposite sort of. Before preggo I was pretty much a flexitarian. Maybe 3-4 servings of animal protien a week? Tons of veggies, squashes, cabbage- lotes of fiber and healthy fats. Now I eat more meat just because I’m supposed to get more protein and all that and it makes me feel sluggish. It just hard to get my veggies in with this giant protein requirement. But no MS at all. At least no throwing up. Sometimes I feel like I’ve been on a boat, like woozy. But that’s just low blood sugar (I keep getting up early and not wanting to make breakfast yet). I know my mom didn’t get MS either. So I think there is a bit genetic and a bit that your body reacts to pregnancy the way is does based on what it has. I also heard low folate amounts can make you more sick. Me eating a ton of veggies before pregnancy probably built up my folate. (beans are super high in folate. How are you getting it naturally?)

I was a vegetarian before getting pregnant! Two servings of grains a day (one of oatmeal, one of whole wheat pasta), a million servings of veggies, a bunch of fruit, and nuts/beans for protein! And regular exercize at the gym (1-2 hours a day) 5 days a week.
I was not spared from morning sickness, sadly.
And in the first trimester all I could eat was cheeseburgers, PB+J, and Kraft mac+cheese.
So much for low carb vegetarian! (And I still lost 7lbs from getting so sick)

I am. I checked with my OB and she said that as long as I felt okay, and I was taking a prenatal vitamin she had no problem with it.
I’m only 5 weeks now, but I haven’t been very nauseous or hungry but I’m not sure because it’s too early or if my diet/exercise/genetics have anything to do with it.

My sister is on pregnancy #2 while paleo. She felt great the entire time- no MS with the first. This one, she has been BFF with the toliet since week 5. So, hard to say!
