I am a South Beacher! The first time I did it, I lost 30 lbs in about two months. I stayed on Phase 1 the whole time. But, of course, I gained it all back, and then some, because I lost all the weight for a cruise and then I moved, got depressed and ate.. Blah. But, now things are better, and I have 11 months until the wedding. I'm doing Phase 2, but I really need to go back to Phase 1 again.
MY FI and I do South Beach together every 6 months or so...me mostly to support him...
But I love it! I only do Phase 1 for 2 weeks...he usually does it for 4ish and we're pretty strict except for allowing alcohol every once in awhile (wine only - if it's a special occasion). He usually loses about 20 pounds, I lose about 5.
After doing South Beach a lot, we have added/changed a lot of our habits even when not on diet. We pretty much do not ever drink beer...instead wine or vodka soda or bacardi diet. I eat 15 almonds every day for my morning snack...we have cut out almost all non-whole grains. (except for french fries!)
The first week is the hardest don't you think? Keep up the good work! And get some yummy crystal light for your water...I like Raspberry Lemonade.
I did SB for a good while a few years ago. If I could give one piece of advice to folks who struggle with it, it's this: EAT MORE VEGETABLES! I feel like the way the diet book is written, it's really easy to construct your diet around your lean dairy and lean meat and, worst of all, the pre-fab meals that they're selling as SB now. Just keep eating a metric crapton of vegetables every day and you'll be healthy and happy and probably lose some weight.
Oh, just two days ago I made this recipe on Epicurious for FI and I for dinner, and we both loved it, and it occurred to me that it's SB phase 1 legal! Bonus points for being vegetarian, too. Here you are, Eggplant Lasagne with Tomato Mint Sauce and goat cheese. It filled all my checkboxes of being delicious, healthy, quick, easy, vegetarian, and not too expensive.
Yaaay! I thought I was alone there for a while. Like I said, I did it before - I was almost my HS weight in the summer of 07 but I've gained about 30lbs since. I think I was too thin that summer, I look at picts now and my face looks a little drawn, so I think losing about 20lbs should do it. I'm only on day 4 & I'm doing really good (knock wood) I even skipped my SF jello last night (hah!). The problem's gonna come in a couple weeks when I can add stuff back in & then I go way off track! I get all "oh I can have this now… and this… and this" and then it's back to square 1.
I am worried about FI's cousin's wedding next weekend - seriously, if I don't have a few drinks they're gonna think I'm pregs - haha. I'm all about the diet & Bacardi but I'm wondering how far it'll set me back.
@ mrbee - thanks! :)
@ LittlestBirds You had me at goat cheese. I'll def. try this - thanks! :)
I've been buying bulk veggies and hummus, cheese and chicken from Costco but it's still like $90 everytime I shop. Does anyone else find that it's expensive?

Hey ladies!! Wondering if anyone else is doing the South Beach Diet?
I'm on day 2 - Ph1. I've done it before but I've always fallen off the wagon because I never really had any motivation. This wedding will def. do it for me though. That, and thanks to a back injury, bed rest, a couple round of steroids (okay, okay, aaaaand from the beer every weekend) I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I don't even want to post my weight here. I'm hoping to lose at least 20lbs, it's totally doable. I could start on Ph2 if I wanted but I wanted to do it right.
Just thought if there were any other SBD bees out there we could help each other out, keep each other motivated, etc.
