@BelleofMontRoyal:  You will probably need a chandelier or some other type of light. We always did candle lit ceremonies for church on Christmas Eve. When they killed all of the lights it was too dark for a wedding, although very pretty.

A couple of things to keep in mind for candlelit ceremonies:

1) Your venue will look great and twinkly and romantic, but you and your husband (and your guests) are all going to be lit by the equivalent of dark grainy blurry horror light. If you are planning to have any photographs taken of you at your ceremony, I would absolutely not rely entirely on candlelight. There is a reason why there are no people included in any of the above pictures.

2) Many venues no longer allow candles due to fire risk, and electric candles are expensive. So there’s that.

Personally I think candlelit ceremonies are far more romantic in concept than in practice, but hey, each to their own!

@BelleofMontRoyal:  we will be having a candlelit ceremony. Though, it will be right on the tail-end of the sun setting, when it’s dark but not pitch black. We have bought hundreds of candles.  We will also be doing soft up lighting around nearby trees, our arch, etc, as well… Possibly a small chandelier. Our venue also is waterfront and has a ton of twinkly cafe lighting everywhere. Since these sorts of photos are not ideal in terms of lighting, we have opted to do a “first look” and get most of our photos done in the daylight, just prior to the ceremony. I will then go back in the bridal room to freshen up for the ceremony.

That way we still get the beautiful daylight photos (which our photographer appreciated), without sacrificing the beautiful, romantic evening ambiance that I’ve always dreamt of.

To each their own, but we wanted the best of both worlds. : )

My FI loves lights, electronics, etc… He found some really nice ones fairly cheap online that we will be installing ourselves (we want to use them for our landscaping after the wedding)… I’ll try to find out where he ordered them. We bought just a couple to try, and really liked them, so ordered more.

The twinkling cafe lights already at our venue is what sold me on it… Plus on the water, it was just dying to have to romantic candles, a great beachy acoustic guitarist and some good comfort food and yummy drinks! Even with our daytime pictures, I’m def anticipating some great night time photos!
