I don't think you can do it until you have a valid (read: signed, which happens at the ceremony) marriage license. You sign it, and they send you an official copy in the mail. Unless you want to get married at the courthouse beforehand, I'm not sure that there's a way to change your name before the wedding.
@Mrs Grape: I agree.
Plus, with the passport you have a year to submit a name change free of charge. I traveled on my honeymoon with my madien name.
ETA: Here, check this out: http://travel.state.gov/passport/correcting/ChangeName/ChangeName_851.html
unless you get a court order to have your name changed just like anyone else who would want their name changed, you have to wait until after the ceremony - state dept, social security, licensing etc, wont change your name unless you have a legal document stating so.
personally i think its jumping the gun to change your name to your FH name before you are even married. its a bit odd and from a person who has a friend who didnt do this legally but did it with new email addresses, logons etc, about a year out, it looks REALLY weird.
my vote would be to not do this. mostly because its not legal without a document to back itup. and heaven forbid something happen between now and the wedding...

I am replacing my middle name with my maiden name and we havent booked our honeymoon yet. I am also without a passport, so could I possibly change my name now and get all that nonsnese over and then file for a Passport so its all taken care of? Anyone else thought of this, I didnt see a similar post. My Wedding is May 28, 2011.
