its an old celtic tradition…

during the ceremony you tie your hands together, say your vows and make promises to eachother, then you renew them a year and a day after you first did your handfasting ceremony for every year youre togther, i think its a great idea:)

We are doing something similar to handfasting, but different.  We are going to be tying a triple fisherman’s knot to symbolize our marriage in lieu of a candle/sand.  We’re thinking about tying it as we’re saying our vows… I’m not totally sure how yet though.

It’s also very us because we’re outdoorsy, Fiance climbs, and it’s very unique — no one in our family has ever done this.  I’m really excited!!

This is the knot —

My Fiance is Pagan, and our ceremony will be pagan-leaning. We are calling it a handfasting but it will be very much at my (non-pagan) comfort level. Because our circle of pagan friends is so large, I have been to other ceremonies (FI has even married a few sets of friends!) I cannot wait! It’s such an underused tradition 🙂 Good luck finding all the info you are looking for. I know Fiance has actual ceremonies written out if you need verbage… just shoot me a message 🙂
