We only played one game, it was a crossword puzzle with clues about me and my husband. Whoever got the most right, won a gift. We also did something when I opened presents, where my MIL set a timer and whenever the timer went off, whoever's gift I was opening, they got a gift.
We ate chicken taco salad (my MIL's dish that I love) and garlic rolls (another dish of hers that I love even more!), crudite, fruit and more.
The favors were little bags filled with handmade soap in the shape of starfish.
What is your theme for your shower? That might help the type of food you serve and what your favors are.
We did the newlywed game with a twist. MOH asked fiancee questions about me, had people write what their answers would be for me. but in answering, I had to say what I thought FHs answers were. Ie-How does Kelly like her eggs? Me "I dont really like eggs, but if I did like them, then over medium??" MOH "How did matt say you liked them?" "Me:uh...over medium?" MOH "Nope, he said 'in bed.'" Most of his answers were serious but i knew when he would answer some funny.
Then we had each table pick a 'bride' and gave each table 4 rolls of TP. Told them they had ten mins to make a wedding dress out of the TP and anything that was currently on the table (no cheating and adding from purses!) we had some great ones! We picked winners for most realistic and most 'creative' My stepsister won that for being a madonna bride lol
We ate a lot of cheese and grapes, chicken and spinach wrapped in phyllo dough (like a big spanikopita with chicken) fruit salad, regular salad, and had brownies and cookies and cake. Also had mimosas, cucumber water, mint water, and NA punch. The favors (it was a nautical tea party) were yellow teacups with a blue sailboat on it and a large cookie with blue and yellow m&ms baked in it. Yum, now Im drooling
I'm having a lingerie shower
my sister/MOH did the inviting, but because she's a family woman, I'm giving her ideas
it'll be a night, a cocktail party with hor d'ouevres maybe olives, cashews, cheese, chips and sangria
I want to do a few games:
1. toilet paper wedding gown game
2. name as many love songs with "love", "beach," and "ocean"
3. what's in your purse game one point each for a list of things i.e. dollar bills, photos, gum, etc..5 points for unusual items someone's phone number; blackberry, bride's picture, undies etc..
4. give your "first kiss" story
5.give your "worst kiss" story
6. your wishes for the bride
7. name as many romantic pairs in history or celebrity romances
8. gift for a gift given with a pink bow; game for best wrapped gift
my gifts are: elizabeth arden lotions and products, one of my friends works in the industry, gift certificate to a spa, salon conditioning , facial treatment, fan, mini-bottle of alcohol, fragrances/body sprays, candles, facial lotions
The game at my shower that I LOVED was sort of like the Newlywed Game. My sister (the MOH/hostess) asked my then fiance questions (about him, me and our relationships) and then I had to guess his answers. It was really funny and I had the opportunity to tell stories back to everyone when I gave the answers.
We're Italian, so we had Italian food--caprese salad, lasanga and cannolis! Yum! My sister made a yummy sparking sangria to drink.
The favors were little Bath and Body Works baskets that my sister put together.
I didn't want any embarassing games nd told my MOH this.... so she abided. She did print some worksheets that everyone filled out about me there were 4 sections- what their fave thing about me was, fav. memory of me, words of wisdome or advice, and I just wanted to tell you...then she took the sheets and put it into a big scrapbook for me to take home and read. Seriously this was great to read later at home, I was crying I was laughing so hard.
She also had printed out some BIG Index cards with 8 Blank Spaces labled different things like "funny phrase, adjective, nickname, etc." Everyone at the table filled in one blank or two if they were missing people at their table. MOH then took the cards from each table and filled them into the WEDDING MADLIBS she had. She then read the story to everyone.
I have to say, it was the funniest thing ever and EVERYONE enjoyed it. She found it online on some free site so she didn't even have to do the work of making it up, just printed it out on nice paper for me. She then gave to me to keep.
People played the BINGO while I opened gifts.
We had a meal choice of Chicken Terriyaki, Sea Scallops, or rib eye (we had the shower at a restaurant).
The favors were full sized bottles of pink lotion from Bath and Body Works that the girls got on SUPER sale one day.
