You can elope with just your parents and a photographer! People do that! Best of both worlds

katken2210:  I havent been there but… Isn’t there something in between? Just immediate family and one or two BFFs. Dad can still walk you in, you can still have photos.  Go to a nice dinner afterwards. Do it next month- not in 6.

But don’t spend all that money on something you’re dreading- that’s just insane!

katken2210:  We canceled ours and went to the curthouse. We even had a photographer because we needed witnesses. Ours offered discount rates for elopements/courthouse ceremonies. We dont regret it and no one has really complained about us going that route.

I have a friend who regretted having an official wedding, but I have no friends who have regretted eloping!  I think that if you were never really excited about the prospect of having a wedding, and it just keeps getting worse every day, you’re definitely better off canceling.

But you don’t have to go to the courthouse after your first wedding plans didn’t work out, unless you just want to!  There are gardens, gazebos, friends’ backyards, etc.  Just make sure whatever you decide is what you truly want, and not a knee-jerk reaction to your annoyance at people’s behavior (which is definitely justified IMO).

Following this because this is me to a T! The stress of a wedding growing bigger than I planned has caused multiple fights with FI and I never wanted a wedding and neither did he. We’re only doing it for my FMIL. Courthouse sounds better each day.

katken2210:  If you’re already feeling that way & you have time to switch gears you should seriously consider it.  Why would’t you have pictures of your wedding if its at a courthouse?

I think a courthouse wedding with immediate families, a best friend or two & a photographer  followed by a nice intimate dinner after is so lovely & memorable.  I would kill to be doing that myself, instead of our much bigger & more fussy wedding next week.  We considered switching gears back when we still had time too & I’m not sure why we didn’t.  It was like we just got busy with the holidays & never finished the conversation.  We’d both go back in time & plan differently in a heartbeat if we could.

I became so frustrated when I started planning our wedding that I planned out a courthouse wedding. I eventually decided it wasn’t what I wanted, but I have to admit I thought about it again today as we drove past the court house on the way to meet the caterer. Still thinking about it even though I really want the wedding.

glad you are finding a way to make it work! Just curious though, won’t the party a week later just be like a delayed reception? Ie are you really cutting down on ur stress?
