I had my first fitting today. Hooray for the dress fitting really perfectly (just needs a hem and a bustle!)
My dress had a problem with the zipper though, where it kept getting stuck at a certain point (they’re going to fix it now), and to try to get it up they kept having me try to push the dress back further (even though there was plenty of fabric to zip it). Well, after like 5 min of this I was feeling a little woozy, I had sweat on my upper lip, and my whole lower body was SUPER sweaty! They brought in a fan, and I kept lifting the skirt up to my thighs so I could get some ventilation on my legs!
I realize on my wedding day the zipper will be fixed so it will zip (it eventualy did today), but I still worry about being hot and sweaty under it (it’s a tulle gown, natural waist btwn an a-line and ball gown, really pretty “light and airy” I’m told…) I think of all those gorgeous getting ready pics I see, and if mine are anything like what it was like today, my getting ready pics are not going to be gorgeous!
anyone else deal with this? My sister said she’s going to make the hotel turn our room temp to the minimum setting before we come to get dressed…

Yes I’m with you! I tried on my dress for my seamstress and stood under a few pot lights while we discussed some things. I was in it for maybe 15-20 minutes and I had sweat trickling down everywhere (yes TMI I know). Our wedding will be in Mexico so I think I’d be sweating no matter what type of dress I picked. I did feel really worried afterwards wondering if I will be able to get through the day without passing out. I did hear about these wipes you can use beforehand that minimize sweating. I think they’re by DermaDr and called Med-E-Tate. I’m going to get some and try them out this summer on a super hot day.

Yes, I think we all suffer a little under our gowns. part of the big day. I had to step out of mine completely when I went to bathroom for a breather and touch up on make up 🙂

At all my fittings I was a sweaty mess! I think part of it was nerves from the fitting and excitment of trying on my dress. The day of my wedding I was hot at times but it honestly wasn’t that bad…there is just so much going on that I never really paid attention to it anymore.

I think it’s one of those things that we all can’t prevent, wether if the dress is heavy or it’s our nerves. Just make sure you’re not all sweaty shiny when taking pictures, have your maid of honor retouch your makeup or shiny spots.

@ferdie224: oh yeah. when i first tried my dress on, i was sweltering! i’m hoping it’s just bc i was so nervous to try it on the first time, and i had to stand super still while she was measuring the hem and everything – maybe on the day, when it’s cool out and i’m just walking around in it it won’t be so bad.

Yes!! And it was the main reason a beach wedding was overruled!

@ferdie224: If you wear a tiny 3-hoop crinoline, your legs will be able to breathe MUCH easier!

I am very worried about this. I hate sweating. It looks and feels gross, and I don’t want my make-up to slide away :-

I didn’t sweat a lot during fittings or on my wedding day. I’m one of those people that is almost always cold though. I had a tulle ball gown dress.

My dress is super simple, no heavy skirt, and I was STILL dripping sweat the other day. Gross.

@TealMarie: Thank you for sharing this, never heard of these! They may come in very handy depending on how warm it is on our day next year.

YES!!!! I went to try my dress on last month and I felt so hot in it and was thinking how the hell am I going to survive the wedding day. I actually went out and bought spanx because of this. I’d rather sweat gather on that than the dress. It might make me warmer though, who knows. Either way, I’m going to at least see if it makes me feel any better.
My first fitting is today, I’m hoping its a little better today! The AC in the store was also on the fritz, so lets hope today goes smoothly (and cooly!!).

Is there anything we can do to prevent the sweatiness? My dress isn’t particularly heavy, but somehow the lining doesn’t breathe at all and I start feeling gross pretty quickly. Did anyone find anything that works?

I melted every time I put my dress on (not sure why?) day of the wedding, perfectly fine! then again – it was 50 degrees on my wedding day and every other time I tried it on it was nice and steamy outside 85+ degrees! even though I was indoors the AC must not have been working that well? Your wedding is in Sept – you shoudl be fine
