Mr. P and I had a chat last night, in which he confirmed that I will, for certain, be proposed to before Valentines Day. (umm, elated?!)

Anyhow, with it being winter, I'm not the happiest I've ever been with the way I look (I'd really like to lose 10 or 15 lbs). I have 36 days between now and then to at least trim up a little, so I feel confident when the time comes (still thinking, omg, yay!)

Anyone else in the same boat? I could use a diet/waiting buddy. :)

I HIGHLY recommend getting the myfitnesspal app. I have lost about 13 lbs in the last 4 months using it just by cutting calories. No strict dieting and no exercise. I have 7 or 8 lbs to go.

But I have a long year of waiting ahead of me, so I'm thinking I need to start working out to help keep my mind off of waiting ...

@MsBaker:  For sure... i have a feeling that SO will be popping the question on a trip down south in the spring... that last thing i want is pics of me in a bikini the way i look right now... so its off to the gym i go!

We should start a little support group/thread on here to help keep ourselves motivated... i know i sure need all teh motivation i can get!

Well, I'm not waiting around for a proposal (only been dating my guy for 3 months, 1 exclusively!) but I've been on a weight loss journey for the past 2 years that has seen a lot of ups and downs. I lost ~40 pounds in 2011 with a combination of working out (cardio + weight lifting) and changing my eating habits. I agree, MyFitnessPal is a great tool! I also use TheSpark.com for workout ideas.

2012 I kinda fell off the weight loss wagon because my relationship imploded and I was barely hanging on for half the year then spent the other half putting my life back together. Thankfully, I didn't gain anything back but I also didn't lose anymore.

This year, I've recommitted myself and I want to lose the last 120-130 pounds I've got left! I've started following the Couch to 5k program so I can get into running and I plan on running a charity 5k "fun run" in the spring.

Ha! I never put the "dieting" and "waiting for proposal" together but yes I am doing the two at the same time. I'm expecting my proposal sometime before May :) I started Nutrisystem about a week ago, but my BF and I had been planning it out (so he could be supportive during this time) for about a month or so. I'm trying to lose 21 lbs and I've already dropped 4! I think even losing 10 or 15 will be fine though, so I won't be disappointed if I don't make my total goal all the way.

Trying to lose weight mainly to be an ideal weight before trying for a baby (which is the main focus!!) and then of course so I can rock the wedding dress :)

@pokie45:  I've been on MFP previously, but I tend to fall off the wagon so to speak because I'm a stay at home mom, and don't have a million other women to talk to every day. But yes, I agree, it's helpful.

@Bookaholic:  Yesss, thats a great idea. Being a mom (from a previous marriage) I'm a lot harder on myself than he is (I've lost 60lbs over the past 4 years... in spurts mostly... but not during the term of our relationship). Ideally, I'd like to weigh 120 when we get married (winter 2015... so my youngest is in school), but I'd be elated to hit 135 by proposal time.

@NovaGrey:  That's another reason I'm trying really hard now! That way when I do get married, kids can come into the equation fairly soon (I'd like to start having kids before 30, if I can manage it).

I'm not really waiting anymore but I need to get into shape! I'd like to add that myfitnesspal is awesome - it was shocking to me how much sugar there was in the stuff I ate. I think I tracked what I ate for about a month and that was enough to give me an idea of what to eat/not eat after. But I travel a LOT (I have 4 countries that I consider home bases) so it is hard to find the same food or healthyish food easily in all, and so I fall off the wagon every few weeks. Could use some motivation to get into shape!

Me!!! Im just joined MFP, I am too a stay at home mom at the moment. I have 15 lbs of baby weight left to get rid of. Im in the process of weaning my LO from BFD'ing. So with me working out 5 times a week, and changing my eats habits. I hope to lose the weight.

I don't think my SO will pop the question until early spring/ late summer. which will be perfect, because our friends are getting married June 8th. we are both in the wedding, so Im mainly shedding the weight for their wedding Lol.

@MsBaker:  Yes, me! I'm on approx the same timescale as you - we're going away on Valentine's Day and I've had some clues! I've always been one of these 'I can eat what I like' b*tches but I've been on meds for a while that have caused me to gain 2 stone in 6 months...! So hard work it is. Having never had to pay attention to calories and stuff before I'm pretty clueless and would appreciate any support :)

Sometimes I do pilates videos I find on YouTube! I like that I can easily fit it in to my day whatever I'm doing! I'm not really looking to lose weight, but I certainly don't want to gain any and exercise keeps me feeling alive!

give the hottie pilates butt burner a try on YouTube, it's really good :-)

@MsBaker:  I am in the same boat! I have been hoping to lose 10-15lbs while I await engagement. I feel it is a motivator while I am at the gym. I am really trying to tone up my arms too because I want a strapless wedding gown. Good luck with the weight loss, and just think that in no time you will be slipping into a wedding gown :) How exciting!!

Like PPs, I'm all about MFP or even LoseIt.  I like LoseIt better because the food choices are more streamlined and I prefer the exercise app it links to...but I fill out both when I'm feeling inclined!  I did LoseIt in preparation for a recent beach vacation and lost 13 lbs in a couple months without much heartache.

I'm mostly doing it for the wedding though, so I won't feel so crunched and extra-stressed during the planning phase!  If I lose 20 I will be in really good shape...I think...it's been a while since I've seen that number!

35 days! (I'm counting because I know that is THE day!) and yes I'm with you on the diet front, I've lost 5lbs since Thanksgiving (yay!) and I'd like to lose about 90lbs before the wedding. :-)

I personally am not not in the same boat as you, but my friend is! My best friend got engaged in October, and she wanted to wait until the weather got nicer this spring to have their engagement party since she wants to do a bbq outside (we live in New England, so an outdoor party now is out of the question!) So, I am dieting with her until her party in April! We both have smartphones, and downloaded the "My Fitness Pal" app, and it really works! Especially since she's my friend on the app, so I can see the foods she posts and if she's slacking :) more incentive! Best of luck!

Definitely! I don't know when it's coming but know its soon as we've tried on rings and my dad let slip that my SO had asked for his blessing (dad!! :))

Annoyingly my SO was also trying to drop the 'love pounds' as we call them because we have both gotten a little too comfirtable with foodstuffs whilst dating yet he started in October - I didn't *really* put 2+2 together until the clues started coming thick and fast but that sneaky SO has a timeframe in mind and has gotten a jump start! How rude ;)

so yes, I'm doing what I know works for me, cutting sugar regardless as I've stuffed my face with sweets over Xmas and trying to get more active. Watch this space...

good luck to all us waiting bees!

Me too!! We have been together 4 years next month, and I am (almost!) 100% it will be before the year is over! Over the past 2 years I have dropped 52 lbs by mostly counting calories, but last month I joined the gym and that is helping! I have another 20 I plan to lose. His brother is getting married in August, and Im pretty sure he wont do it before the wedding (wants him to have his "time") and my 30th is in October, so Im hoping its around then :)

For now Im counting cals, and going to the gym every other day doing 6 miles.

I'm working on it, although it has nothing to do with a proposal. I have a daughter who turned 1 in Sept. and I need to lose the weight I gained AFTER she was born from stress that is work related. Also said if someone doesn't propose by then, at least when I turn 32 in April I'll look good, not like I looked in November. (I've already lost 12lbs.)

@Stormchild:  You and the OP and I are all on the same page! We're taking a trip around v-day (a little after my birthday) and I think it might be coming then, so I'm really on a strict diet right now. I've already lost 6 lbs since we booked the trip and I hope to lose another 10 by the time we leave.  Unfortunately, I've been a victim of that flu epidemic the news keeps talking about and have been sick, no lie, since before christmas (I'm actually taking a sick-day today!) so I haven't been at the gym but I've been watching what I eat.

Home-made veggie soup, salads and egg-whites for me! Once a week i'm allowing myself some carbs so I don't go crazy, but I think I can keep it up since its only about another month.

Note that I do NOT condone this type of diet long-term, but for a few weeks I don't think its going to kill me!

First of all, so exciting to have a confirmed "ring-by" date!!!  :) And, although I'm not specifically trying to lose any weight right now, I'm much more aware of what I'm eating as I think about engagement and wedding pictures in the near future.  It's great motivation to think twice about what I consume and makes a great workout that much better!

Oh yes, I'm in the same boat.  I'll probably (hopefully) be engaged by the time 2013 is over, and I'm hoping closer to springtime.  I'm unhappy with my weight now and have started dieting/exercising to drop my extra 15-20 pounds.  Once it happens, I want to be able to go look at dresses without having a nervous breakdown.

There has been much ring talk lately and I keep thinking that if I lost a reasonable 1lb a week I could be a whole 6 lbs lighter by our 4 year anniversary.  I've been working out like mad and honestly I think it has helped with my sanity during the "waiting"..  at least its a few hours out of my day I am not lurking about wedding websites.
