I LOVE long, banquet style tables but my mom HATES them!!! It makes me so sad, too, because round tables annoy the heck out of me.
Ah! Me too! And the way that our guest list is working out the round tables just arent' going to work.
Question though: when she said "banquet" I think of high school lunch long tables. Is this right?
Before we visited our venue my FI was horrified that we had to use long rectangular tables and not round ones (like every other wedding he's been to). He changed his mind once he saw it but I thought it was funny that he cared! I'm interested in seeing some inspiration pictures too.
I like the mix of square and round, I didn't lik the round ones to begin with but then when I went to check my venue I found out it wont work so I will mix them wedding party long table (20 people) then round ones for the rest. It all depends how you decorate it, check this out and pick up ur jaw after this amazing pics lol...

these are dream weddings for sure
Not sure if you have thought of this already, but we were at a wedding a few weeks ago that had long banquet style tables and while they looked nice it was really awkward. We never spoke two words to the folks on the other end of the table, couldn't even hear what they were talking about to try to chime in on small talk. Everyone else had already sat before us and we ended up both getting the end seat across from one another so each of us was sitting beside a stranger that had their significant other to their other side so they were mostly turned and talking the other direction. It was a lonely dinner...that's for sure...hated it.
P.S.
I'm the oldest of 5 kids and born in NY...I am NOT shy...but it was just not set up well for mingling...especially with the centerpiece sort of blocking way to the other side as well.
I love long tables! Even just rectangle that seat 10 over the round tables. I just hate the round tables! Unfortunately my mom hates anything but the rounds. :(
Here's one... there was a sweetheart table set up at the front with two round tables flanking it for the bridal party... there were 8 or so of these tables set up around the room (it was in a church's reception hall)...
I had long tables (a mix of 8-tops, 12-tops and 16-tops), but my pictures aren't back yet. They looked BEAUTIFUL, though. I LOVE long tables! I did white linens with crinkly silver runners on top, with a mix of different heights of TALL antiquey looking silvery mercury glass taper candleholders (with creamy white candles), and some shorter DIY roses (pinks, peaches, lavenders and creams) in vases with smoky grey tops and mercury glass bottoms. Pretty!
Okay...I love the rounds and the banquets. I am stuck only using rounds though. I have ? If you did a round sweetheart table on a stage that sits up about 3 ft, I'm thinking it will look awkward and am unsure. I want the bridal party to sit with me at a banquet table, but all of my friends say that it will look too old fashioned. What do you guys think? Also, if you do have a sweetheart table, where does your bridal party sit?
our reception venue has a mix of long and round tables. here's a pic of it set up for a wedding.
I loved the idea of using both rounds and rectangles but our banquet manager at our venue totally shot the idea down. I still haven't given up on it though!
Hmmmm GaBGal, how are you trying to use it? Here are the pix of the head table...
Not sure if you have made your decision regarding your tables yet, but another idea is a square rectangle look. I agree with another memebrs post about the long rectangle one being quite anti social. Using your rectangle ones you can push 2 together horizontally you then put a cloth over each then one over the top of them. i will post a picture for example of this . you can still fit the same amount of people around as you would with the round.
I love square tables! When long tables are put together in a line as in jillianleigh's photo it's usually called a "kings table."
While long tables look beautiful in photos, I discovered recently that they are an absolute pain in reality. Conversations are limited to only those right next to you instead of the whole table with a round. Also, they are very difficult to get in and out of.

So we have the option of using banquet long tables. I'd love to see some inspiration!
Thanks Bees!
