I’m certainly not, but that’s a tremendous thanks to a lady I go to church with- she’ll be doing it for me. Laughing What makes you want to do your own hair?

I am having my sister do my hair for me. Well I am going to straighten it and then she will just braid part of it and pin in back. Here is a pic! Didn’t see the point to pay someone for something this simple and our wedding is VERY casual and outdoors. Do what you want…save money if you feel you can do it by yourself or with the help from people in the wedding.

cbee: You are a brave woman! I know I am bound to be a nervous wreck that day, so needless to say, I’m not going to be trusting myself. And I do agree that paying a small fortune for things that you shouldn’t is crazy, I just am continually blessed by the people that are around me. ^_^

Especially since the hairstyle I want is this!:

I may do it or I may have a friend do it for me. I haven’t decided yet. I know my crazy hair the best, so we will see.

cbee I also think you are a brave woman.  My hair and I have had our moments.  Sometimes we’re great friends and other times I’m sure it hates me.  That’s why I don’t want to deal with it if on my wedding day it’s decided to be unmanageable.  I wouldn’t want it to trigger a wedding crying fest before I even walk down the aisle….heh.

I was going to do it myself since I wanted a very pretty loose curl that I do on myself ALL the time plus I am a hairstylist so i just figured it didn’t make sense to have someone else mess with it. A few months back we were going to a wedding and I was trying hard to look extra pretty and I started getting stressed out and my hair wasn’t holding up like it always did. That was the day I decided to hire someone to do my hair lol I don’t need any extra stress on that day!

I am doing my own since I’m a hairstylist, the style I want is simple, and the “trials” I’ve had at work were um not my vision 🙂

@jackieann007-I LOVE that hairstyle, now I’m thinking of doing that instead!!

At this time, I am going to say yes, I will be doing my own hair and makeup. I am practicing. We will see what happens as the day gets closer.

My sister (maid of honor) was supposed to help me with my hair, makeup, and nails the morning of the wedding as well as throw my Bparty.  It’s safe to say I got screwed!!!  I had no Bparty, no nails, & no help from her with make up or hair!!! She got to my house at 6:45am & disapeared around 9am the morning of the wedding, just dropped the ball!!!  Then 1hr prior to the start of the wedding she calls me asking if I still wanted her help with my nails, hair and makeup and added- “oh and by the way, I have the nails I bought for you earlier this morning, your foundation, & wig glue, just in case you want to wear a lace front wig today” – (FYI: I didn’t tell anyone but I bought a lace front wig as a last resort – backup to the backup!!!  I have NEVER worn one but knew I needed the glue to secure it).  I cared less about the Bparty but COME ON!!!! Then she had the audacity to cry to me talking about how overwhelming all this was…..  FOREAL!!!!!!  THANK GOD I LOVE GOD and my FREEDOM!!!!

My husband’s sister was by my side the entire time but because I’m black and she’s white, she was unsure how to do my hair and makeup, I love her to death but I also love my face and hair!  So…. I strapped on a wig, light eye liner, and called it a day!  90% of the time the poor girl was just listening to me gripe about my sister….  I am so grateful she was just THERE!  WELCOME TO THE FAMILY.  =>

All this to say…

  1. Have 2 back up plans!! and a backup to each backup!!!!
  2. Get your nails done a day or two before the wedding!!!
  3. Designate (2) commities- each consisting of at least 4 people each {unknown to one another…}  to decorate the RECEPTION VENUE perferably the DAY BEFORE the wedding or AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE the day of the wedding!!!
  4. Designate (2) commities- each consisting of at least 3 people each {unknown to one another…} to decorate the CHURCH perferably the DAY BEFORE the wedding or AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE the day of the wedding!!!
  5. If your family irritates the HELL out of you AVOID them AS LONG AS POSSIBLE in order to keep your sanity prior to the wedding – sounds harsh but you’ll thank me later!!!
  6. Tell people if they are not there ON TIME for the wedding rehersal they WILL NOT BE IN THE WEDDING!!!!
  7. Go over EVERTHING during the rehersal and if you are unsure of ANYTHING MAKE THEM STAY AND TELL YOU!!!!  SCREW THEM!!!  IT’S YOUR DAY!!!!!

I just let everyone do what THEY wanted to do and I can only laugh about it now… but internally I am SOOOO PISSED!!

I was too considerate to everyone else and afraid to look like a bridezilla!  2 days after the fact, I wish I were more of a B*^$!!!  I realize now that I was WAY too nice!!!  I paid for all of my bridesmaids accessories and 3 out of 4 of their dresses in which only costed 49.99, plus 1 night hotel stay.  I already told my husband I want to renew our vowels in 5 years and I WILL be more prepared and LESS accomodating!!!!!  There were three people (family & really good friends) wearing white….FLOWING WHITE DRESSES!!!!!!! If they were just guests of friends and family it would have been different….but REALLY!!!!  I am just SOOOO HJAPPY IT’s OVER!!!!

Worse case your wedding day will be so TERRIBLE you want to scrub it from your mental roladex, but you can always have a do over 2 – 5 years!!! What ever happens, It’s not that serious, and can’t be worse than mine!!!!

REMEMBER: HE ALREADY SAID YES (knowing your family is CRAZY!!!) and in the END…  at the end of the day, it’s ONLY you & the love of your life!  O=>

Hang in there….. Good luck and God Bless.

@honeybear- looks cute! And bobby pin and hairspray the crap out of it. Careful with hairspray though because some of them leave a residue. I highly reccommend Tigi Hardhead. It has no residue and a very strong hold.

I’ve been planning on doing my hair because I too am 3 hours away from where I will be getting married plus I have naturally curly hair and I don’t ever get the feeling that people really know how to deal with it.  Not to mention, I also am trying to save $$$.  It is kinda stressful trying to figure out how I will fix my hair and how I will make it stay well.  FI wants me to wear it like I always do–all down and in natural curls or in a side ponytai…..but idunno…

@HoneyBear: I took so many photos with my iPhone in front of the bathroom mirror when I was doing my hair trials. It looks good!

I might suggest adding extra pins (the non-slip kind) to keep things in place. Also, try making a smaller base bun our of a braid that you secure with elastics and pins. It will distribute the weight. One of my BMs did that to my hair and it stayed the whole day (and my hair is super long and very straight).
