Yes, I got a ton of this. I may change my phone number after the wedding. :-/
I am! I gave my info to ONE store, and I keep getting trash in the mail. I was getting calls from the store, too (David's) every few days until I read them the riot act and demanded that they stop calling, and they did! I still get piles of junk mail, though. I love laughing at the terrible DJ and photography postcards I get.
Yes, I went to a bridal show and I thought I was being smart when I created a separate email for all the vendors to contact me. Well, I forgot to sign up for the tickets with that email and I used my reg. email. Now I am getting Wedding Spam-O-Rama. Plus the calls.
I am getting postcards nearly everyday. It is getting annoying and I can't figure out where they are getting my information, I have not been at any shows or signed up for mailing lists that I know of, I hae only secured my vendors. And, I'm getting married in another state...and they know it...it's weird.
hmm 2010bride2bee it sounds like your vendors might have whored your info out...im pretty sure even inquiries online (they ask for sooo much info JUST for an inquiry as well!) might get your name put on a "bridal list"....same thing with Bridal magazines, i called and asked them about that....they give your info out as well!
UGGGGGGGHHHH!!! My best friend and I went to Signature Grand Bridal show and i only gave my information to them to buy my tickets. They needed my address to verify credit card.... WELL i have officially been whored out and I am over it. Late night phone calls... weird voicemails... all the mail... its ridiculous! I am definitly thinking about changing my number but i cant change the address. I called Signature Grand to get me off their list. They said they would but i still receive stuff yet not as much.
holy crap late night phone calls?!??! oh, i would have went OFF on someone!!!! yea, this last vendor called me with an "unknown number'. i hate that!!! due to my neurotic nature, i cant NOT pick up an unknown number call!!!!!! lol.
LOL i no longer pick up the unknown numbers. My luck it will be them hounding... creepy wedding salesman.
YES! I had a great experience buying my dress at David's Bridal....until they sold my number to everyone under the sun. UGH! If I get one more call from The Pros I might lose my mind!
Soon2BeMrs...you are probably right. I hadn't thought of my vendors doing it. That's so not cool!
Yes, David's sells your info to EVERYONE. I was especially annoyed by the "You've won... all you need to do is..." crap.
One thing I've noticed is that most of the spam has stopped since the wedding. I'm guessing that they know your wedding date and don't want to waste time on you after the wedding.
I had this happen and it was really annoying. I know that a lot of mine came from David's--who sells your info to TONS of different vendors. Also, if you go to any sort of wedding fair, often you get your info out there too. My best reccomendation is to use only an email address (and a new one that you don't care too much about) instead of giving your phone number or address to anyone!
I went to one bridal show and was stupid enough to sign up for the giveaway. I got married almost 6 months ago and I still get emails for wedding stuff!
I have even started getting mail from insurance people. Stuff like, "congratulations on your engagement, use us to combine your car insurance!"
The only people I can blame are DB. I'd love to lodge a formal complaint. Anybody know how to do that?
im glad to hear that it stops once your wedding passes, i was wondering "how long can this foolishness go on?" i actually specifically DID NOT attend a Pros event because after I RSVPed once (like 10 days before the event) they called, emailed and texted me 3 more times to have me RSVP again.....(RSVP to a RSVP?!??! WTF?!?!) right from there, i was like ok you are wayyy too unprofessional for my liking!
Ugh yes. I have recently been getting a lot of phone calls like "there's an upcoming bridal expo in your area" or "congratulations, you have won some bridal prizes, just attend our seminar to claim them" AND I've been getting mail from stupid random places.
I was complaining to FI about how I don't know how anyone even got my number since I never put it online when signing up to message boards or anything, and that's when I realized I put my address and phone number on the paper stuff at David's Bridal when you come in to try on dresses. I'm really annoyed by all of it already.
I created an new e-mail address specifically for all wedding related vendors/purposes. This way I don't feel like my inbox has been violated. Only once I've contracted a vendor do they get my personal e-mail. It's helped a lot.
Like Palm Tree, I created an email account for just wedding related emails. I also gave out my google voice number for the same purpose It has worked out GREAT. I actually don't mind the vendors' emails because after all it is a "spam" email account and sometimes I do catch a good deal or two there. I figured this weddding planning is only a temporary thing, so it calls for a temporary email. :)
You know who is really bad about this ? The knot ....
I'm a photographer and was investigating the knot to buy advertising. I wanted to sign up as a bride first to see how it worked. After signing up , I received TONS of email, a little junk mail ( on paper ... and I really hate that because I HATE paper junk mail for environmental reasons ) .
So .... beware of that site. Or just aware that the same thing will happen when you sign up.
Yep my junk mail has increased. I think the other culprits are your registry. I did BB&B and Macy's. Now I'm getting catalogs from both and other stores which I think the are affilated with. I hate junk mail because of the waste of paper. I had gotten mine down to almost none. Oh well!
Davids Bridal gave out my info after I bought a dress from there. Now I get emails, phone calls and post cards. It's very annoying.
My favorite was after I signed up for free tickets for a wedding convention (which I didn't even end up going to) ALLL of the emails I got from vendors.. including one from my venue, reccomending I check them out.
It's so ridiculous for me because I'm pretty ahead of the planning, and already have all of my major vendors. I don't need constant email contact. My least favorite is when I inquire with a vendor and then they add me to their mailing list, even if I don't hire them :(

I DO I DO!!!!!!
Its rediculous, but does anyone else feel like this??? I feel violated! My phone number, email address, HOME ADDRESS (Im surprised they arent calling my job yet!!!), all these calls, all this mail and emails from photographers, wedding planners....whats the deal?!!??
I thought the first offender was a bridal showcase I attended about a month ago...I gave out my information, signed up for sweepstakes (like the naive bride to be!!!) and low and behold, I am now getting tons of mail....
To make matters worse, the place where I bought my dress (a high end boutique mind you...im not trying to be funny but I assumed they wouldn't do that, considering the type of store they were...) whored my phone number out to a wine dealer who admitted that they got my number from the boutique where I bought my dress!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else dealing with information overload out there in terms of getting TONS of mail and emails from vendors?!?! Anyone else feel like their phone and email address has been totally violated?!??! Arent there laws against this stuff? Or is there a separate clause for brides to be within these laws that states that we are allowed to be inundated with emails and phonecalls from prospective vendors??!?! lol. Feel free to vent! :)
