Now, not to sound ungrateful, but my boss is obviously being uber tight. In a paper lunch bag: Christmas patterned paper napkins and a cheap candle holder with an electric candle (that were both sitting in the storage room of the office, I’ve seen them many times that we use for xmas decorations in the office), and a pen that has the organizations name on it.
Seriously?? I’m sorry, I’d much rather get a card with a $5 Tim Hortons gift card! Or something home-made that you put some time into!! This looks like you don’t give a shit about your employee and just threw together what you could find in the office. I’m ready to just throw it all in the bin outside. And not even waste my time creating the gift I was going to make up this weekend.
This is the cherry on top of the shitty cake that has been these past couple weeks at work. I’m already going to send out resumes elsewhere, but I’m almost ready to turn in my 2 weeks notice…

That is a pretty crappy gift.
On the other hand, I don’t expect a gift from my boss nor do I give her one.
It’s work, not to be confused with my personal life.

@CherryWaves: I haven’t gotten one, but I’m super scared that my fil’s will think we cheaped out.
We got nothing on their lists they send us, as everything was too expensive. I bought everyone a large coach wristlit, coach keychain, and a small individual gift (fsil got a makeup pallete, fmil got juicy couture gloves..ect)
FI normally spends $150+ on gifts, but we’re paying for the wedding alone AND we have a 5 year old AND we’re helping out my family AND might be taking in FI’s grandmother too. We’re not broke, but we’re super budgeting everything.
We went from last years’s $150 to $75, so people might be angry.

@CherryWaves: If it makes you feel any better I was the only member of our sales/management staff that didn’t get a gift. Our sales people got $100 gift cards, managers got their cards and gift cards today, I didn’t get anything.

lets see got a water mug with company logo filled with left over halloween candy in it. A cheap ass candle holder with a tea light. That was ours from work.. Um yeah…

@Brideonabudgetlauren: That is awful! 🙁
@CherryWaves: Our boss typically gives bonuses for Christmas. Last year he gave everyone a bottle of wine ($85.00). I don’t drink red wine so of course to me it was a rather shitty gift. Although I regifted it to someone who could appreciate it.

@Brideonabudgetlauren: Ouch ):
@CherryWaves: That is pretty crappy. I would rather have gotten five bucks too. He could have at least done that. Good Grief!
I work for my dad so I don’t get a Christmas bonus like everyone else. lol I get whatever they get me as a “daughter”…make sense?
It kind of sucks but I get over it.

I just got a gift from one of the departments we serve…a candle with our company logo on it
It’s better then last years notebook with a red ribbon on it (that I know comes from our storage closet!). At that point, I really wish the department wouldn’t give us anything haha
One of my boss’s gave me a starbucks giftcard, which I was really happy about. He is feeding my coffee addiction 🙂

Two years ago my boss gave me an autographed picture of her (it was supposed to be her last xmas in that position). The rich part is, we all hated her (and the feeling was pretty mutual). Last year, our gift to her was a framed portrait of the staff.LOL
The only use I ever got from that picture (even the frame was shit) was last year. 45 minutes before I left for the Christmas break, she reamed me out over something small and stupid. I went home and cut out devil’s horns and a spiked tail out red christmas ribbon and glued it to the picture. It made me feel much better about that shitty gift.lol

my MIL got me some ugly placemats which she made sure to stress were a personal gift for me.. uhh ok?

Okay, I don’t feel AS bad anymore. Still throwing it in the garbage, lol.
@Brideonabudgetlauren: Okay, thats terrible and hurtful! What the deuce?? I’d tell you to maybe mention something, but I don’t think I would myself…

- Wedding: April 2013 - Rhode Island
That sucks. I’d throw it in the trash right outside his office so he saw it too. What a grinch!
I don’t have any stories myself, but the worst present my fiance ever received was from his paternal grandmother. She sent him a box of socks with what appeared to be open packets of hot chocolate. The chocolate powder was everywhere and he ended up just throwing the entire thing away. LOL!

@CherryWaves: Yea no idea. My position is one that they created this year and I’m the first one to fill it. Sometimes I’m considered a manager, sometimes I’m considered sales, but apparently sometimes I’m also forgotten about lol.

That is a pretty crappy gift… it’s not so much how much it cost, it’s how little effort was put in to it. A paper bag to wrap them? Seriously? It almost would have been better if your boss hadn’t gotten you a gift at all.
Yesterday was our Christmas office party and we (my husband and I own the company) gave out pretty good gifts this year. We’re a web design company, so everyone that works here is a huge nerd lol. We bought all the gifts from Think Geek. We got them each one personal gift (based on their favourite fandom, Minecraft, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, ect) and we got them all this little USB missle launcher so that can shoot each other with them lol. They all seemed to really like them!
We also all went out to a nice dinner and a bar afterwards our treat.
