My FI bought mine online at an after Valentine’s day sale (what I jokingly call the “she didn’t say yes” sale).  It originally retailed at just under $1000 and he bought it for $650.

Mr TTR proposed in Myrtle Beach (Easter 2012) and I found a ring the next day that I liked at the Zales Outlet Store… Clearance section at a great price.

BUT as it was the first ring we’d seen (and it meant heavy importation to bring back to Canada) we let it be

Lol, I fretted over that ring for the next 6 Weeks tho, as I was having such a difficult time finding something similar or equally unique here in Canada (less population = less choice)

In the end it was an good decision, not buying the first ring we found…

Cause we ended up with something of much better Quality, Specs, etc. after we became far more educated on Diamonds (and not from a Chain Store)

We were out for a Summer’s Drive… next city over.

And I said I wanted to check out the Jewellery Stores, particularly a nice Family Run Store I’d heard about on the net.

What an incredible stroke of luck… we walked in the day they were having a Trunk Sale.  With semi-custom settings on sale.  And a Diamond Merchant who also had a nice selection of Feature Stones that could be set into them right there on site.

And there she was… THE ONE.  Nothing like anything I’d seen in my search (or since).

Was meant to be…

I got a ring that WE BOTH LOVE… and we saved some money.

The best news was when the Appraisal came back … ring is valued higher than we ever imagined.

* Happy Dance *

Hope this helps,

To @Kafrine:  Thank you for your kind words.

Ya I am not a fan of Pave for the reasons you mention… my Sparkly ERing & WBand are both Channel Set.  More secure than pave.

To @mypinkshoes:  Jewellery Lover that I am… I have just recently discovered the fabulousness of US Jewellery Stores and their Outlet & Clearance incarnations.  Didn’t end up buying my ERing there… but I’ve certainly picked up some other nice pieces in my travels.

And nothing expensive… in some cases able to buy gemstones like Quartz / Topaz for what I’d pay up here for “costume jewellery”

Cannot believe the prices in some cases between there and here (sure you see it too).

Don’t know about Mexico (where you went on your Honeymoon), but the Caribbean was full of surprises as well… got Gold Earrings for about 1/4 of what I would have paid back here in Canada.

Lol, was a good girl tho, and limited myself to just one pair.

Now I have an excuse to go back

Wink *wink*

@This Time Round:  yes, outlets in the states are great for jewellery deals.  i find that the jewellery in mexico to be very expensive.  in the tourist areas, cancun, cozumel or playa del carmen they have those big jewellery international diamond chains.  i have yet to see anything reasonably priced.  in the big cities of mexico (non-touristy), i don’t find a huge selection of jewellery and it is very expensive.

i have only ever purchased 1 jewellery item at a resort in puerto morelos.  it was not expensive and i am pretty sure the stone is only lab created but it’s very pretty.  my dh bought it for me because he knew how much i liked it.

My fiance bought mine from a small local jeweller with a good reputation for diamonds.  He went way over budget with it but couldn’t resist because it was such a good deal.  It has been appraised at £3400 and he got it on a whole store sale for £1800.  Havent got it yet but will certainly post when I do!!! (Likely to be after xmas…)  It’s a half carat round with a quarter carat pear each side.  We found similar styles for a lot cheaper that didn’t sparkle nearly so much!

My ring was 3.5K before taxes original price. It was on sale at Kohls during christmas time for $1399 BUT if we applied for a Kohls credit card that day we would get an additional 30% off the ring meaning it would be $979 before taxes! We paid $1100 on a 4K ring! It is the ring of my dreams!
