@CorgiTales:I HATE THEM ALWAYS!!! We registered online at Target...it may not be as fancy, but they have the items we want and are affordable to our guests. I am not a department store kind of girl though! With those fluctating prices it must drive you mad...good luck!
No, not really. Sorry!
I can see it being frustrating that prices fluctuate that much...but it's all part of being a smart consumer right? :)
I <3 Macys Registry. Just got our Reward Card the other day!!! $110 to spend as we wish completely free!!! And we get a 10% completion discount and our local one lets us also use coupons with it.
The pressure cooker on our registry we wanted is 40% off this week so we're going to get it after work. With the completion discount and coupon it'll be like 70% off!!! And bought with free money.
I too love Macy's registry but I know your point about prices fluctuating. You really just have to leave it up to your guests to shop smartly.
@CorgiTales: I completely agree! One of the reasons I chose not to register there. Whenever I'm buying for a couple registered there, I immediately start stalking the website waiting for the sale because I know if I buy something at regular price, it will likely be 50% off the week later! Drives me crazy. Wish they would just start with realistic prices in the first place instead of marking them way up and looking like they are having amazing sales.
@Gerbera: & @caszos: I know what you're saying and there is really nothing that I can do because the guests will just do what they will and buy what they want when they want. I guess the reason it bothers me so much is that I worry that the things we registered for are too expensive when they're not on sale, and that people will think we're like snobby or something for registering for $65 plates or a $250 duvet cover. I know gift pricing is a family by family thing but I felt like registering for $45 plates was really at the upper end of what my family would consider reasonable so every time I see the prices rise I'm like noooooooooooooooooooo lol
yeah it's very frustrating! we are having our first shower next weekend (omg..) and things just started being purchased..LUCKILY, the sale ends on november 7th, the day AFTER our shower..i would hate for people to pay more than they needed to for gifts!
our place settings are normally $100, but are constantly on sale for $69..i really really hope nobody pays full price for them =/
@blondeeebuckeye: yea i'm kind of counting on people waiting to the last minute to shop. My shower is the Sunday after Thanksgiving... so you would THINK that the fri-sat after Thanksgiving would have some great sales on everything. And would also be a perfect time for most people to shop for the shower. *fingers crossed that all of my assumptions are correct*
@CorgiTales: If it makes you feel any better, I've bought from enough Macy's registries to know the drill and that you have to wait for the sales. I bet a number of your guests are clued in as well.
awe. Don't worry! I think you'll be fine!
It's pretty common knowledge that Macys prices fluctuate a lot especially when they are at full retail.
oh that's a good point! my guess would be that a lot of people would shop on black friday or that saturday for your shower.
my SECOND shower (the one in columbus..we booked the florentine, FYI) is december 4th..so hopefully that group will get lucky on the thanksgiving sales too.
I am pretty sure that Macy's will do their Friends and Family sale again in early December. It has been 25% off of sale prices during previous events. We completed all of our china during the last one- buy 3, get 1 free AND 25% off. For newlyweds that are wanting to purchase remaining registry items, definitely hang in there and see about the Friends and Family sale.
Yep! I went to order some stuff online that was on sale, but then decided to see if it was in the store cause I kind of needed it. It wasn't, but it's a good thing I didn't order them when I wanted to because they went on even more sale (that's awkward wording, but you get it) when I ordered them the day after!
I thought I was the only person who hated Macy's. I can't stand how their prices flucuateso much! It also seems like whenever I go into Macy's to find something I can never find it!
You think it drives you crazy? Try being on the pricing team, those poor people run around like crazy.
The only thing I hate about Macy's is that there is not one any where near here and they keep running the commercial any way. Stupid stupid Macy's.
But I really get your frustration, that is crazy how their prices change like that.
We have a love/hate relationship with Macys...but we also know to never pay full price because a sale comes every month! The registry was a bit of a pain in the butt though, because for some reason the email they assigned me to login was some random combination of my name and some numbers @ macys . com!

So we're registered at Macy's... the two big things we want there are our dishes/serving pieces and our duvet cover. But Macy's prices drive me nuts! I guess we registered during a sale... but the prices fluctuate like crazy and I find myself stalking the website hoping the prices stay low close to my shower so people aren't paying full price for things. Because it honestly seems that every week the prices swing by at least 50%. For example, our dishes are anywhere from $42-65/set depending on what day it is. And our duvet cover swings from $169-249. Its like a game of whack-a-mole trying to time out when people should buy stuff on sale!
