I’ve seen a few of these threads, but wanted a hands up and stories from waitingbees and no-longer-waiting bees about having an SO who knows you know he has the ring and is LOVING TO TAUNT YOU.
I wrote a bunch about this in my intro on the intros thread but basically, I did not want a ring. I told my SO not to get one, but he wanted to do it, so I said sure, a ring sounded like fun, but no diamonds and keep it under a grand.
Cue months of him being like “Well how about a garnet solitarie?” “You know, I was looking at Moissanite the other day…” and “Gee, the price of gold is going up; better make that purchase soon!”
Finally – FINALLY – I was told it was ordered last week and that there’s some problem with the shipping, so not to expect a proposal during our gift exchange tonight (and I believe him, he actually looked genuinely sad because I think this was the original plan).
But while I’m impatiently waiting he keeps doing things like looking at me ernestly and saying “I really love you and I need to ask…will you….get me a soda?” “I want to spend my life with you, so I really want to give you…these sheets for the laundry.”
We live together and it’s all in good fun, but I wanted to hear from other waiting bees with sneaky SOs who are getting some fun in while you wait!
Also, so glad I found this board as my besties are getting sick of my incessant chatter about when I might or might not be getting proposed to!

@whininggirl: My Fiance fake-proposed to me (down on one knee and everything) a few months before the real thing! He was holding a toy ring. I didn’t even notice, though, since I was so busy going “OMG, this is it!!!” I laughed afterward, but geeze…

@GreenEyedMoon: Haha. Oh man! So glad boyfriend hasn’t thought of that yet!

Yes! Mine is and I love it! I have now been proposed to with a rachet more than 20 times, and a pair of scissors and a piece off a door knob set haha! He has also got on one knee to tie his shoe, asked me, seriously, if I loved him would I… prepare lunch for tomorrow and more. I think it makes the waiting more exciting! GLad to see I’m not the only one.

My SO hasn’t taken it to huge extremes…but enough to make me squirm! haha. I’m really short and he’s average height so when he kneels on his knees his head is about even with mine..And he was doing that and said..It’s bout time I marry u:) I said oh really and when? he just smiles and said…soon:)
He’s gotten down on one knee and grabbed my hand and said my name and pauses then says, “i love you” Bah! I love him too but stop messin with me!!! lol

Mine has always been having fun with this. He’ll make me think one thing and I think that’s it and he turns it around and says something totally different. Apparently his best friend/coworker knows something I don’t. Because he keeps on chasing me around to see if I have a ring on my finger. Men!lol

LMAO Mine tortured me. and we had fun with it..
we went together to pick up the ring when it was ready but he said he wasnt going give it to me until he proposed.
we sat onthe sofa and watched a movie.. he put the ring box on top on the entertainment center. I made dinner, he kept me company by us chatting and then him putting beyonce “single ladies’ on, then we had dinner and he put the ring box in the middle of the table… see the pattern? yeah.. drove me nuts but also cracked me up. He finally proposed at the beach when we walked the dog, that night.

Yes.They’re mostly “I bought you an ugly ring” jokes with me responding that it’s too bad he wasted his money. 😉 I’m letting him have his fun cause it won’t be too much longer.

@Sn2bMrs.B: O haha. That’s hilarious with Single Ladies. Tee hee.
I’m also having fun being teased – it’s like a fun kind of infuriating…if that makes any sense 🙂 I’m particularly sore about even being this interested in the darn ring because this whole engagement was his idea in the first place! It’s like basically he turned me into exactly the kind of girl I didn’t want to be – begging begging begging for a ring!
But I think he figures it’ll make a good story for our future kids. “Well, your mom didn’t even want a ring, but then I convinced her she did and made her wait months and months just to watch her squirm. Ain’t I a stinker?”

It’s so nice to hear that people are having fun with this! If my Fiance had ever done that to me….well, he’s just not that type at all. But I don’t think I’m the type who would have enjoyed it. I’ve always thought that the guys who tease their girls and make them wait were controlling jerks who had their girls on a string. Like, once he has the ring….what’s the point of waiting? I’m glad to find out that I’m wrong and it’s not like that for so many of you ladies! This was something I always disliked hearing about and this thread has changed my opinion. I still don’t “get it”, but it’s cool to find out that this sort of thing can be fun for both partners.

I’m not sure if he has the ring yet or not, but I know he has purchased it, and YES he is being a little turd about it. Mostly because he’s just as excited as I am about it! lol He mostly bugs me with, “do you wanna know if I have it? Huh? HUH?!?!” I told him that I didn’t want to know. It is fun waiting because every “nice night” we have together, I keep thinking, “Maybe this is the moment!!”

Oh my ladies…..If my Boyfriend or Best Friend ever did anything like this I would probably kick him!
I think it would turn out like the boy who cried wolf, I would believe him the first time but never again…and end up ruining my real proposal, lol 😛

@Juliepants: I completely agree!

Hahahaha now that I’m on the outside it sounds so funny!!
My Fiance was such a tease. I knew the ring was being made with his aunt acting as middleman and everytime they discussed the ring on the phone, he would tell me “oh talked to my aunt today!” and things like “big developments today!”. He also made a lot of jokes about giving me a brown stone (a veiled poop joke – we’re so mature). And then he kept trying to throw me off by saying the ring wouldn’t be ready until after New Years. It all messed with my head so much!!
But he proposed this evening and all the suspense is worth it!! Just enjoy having a guy with a great sense of humour 🙂

Boyfriend or Best Friend is threatening to do so. I know he has the ring, now (by some form of MAGIC, the store had one in my size, 2 weeks after they told me they didn’t and a week before Christmas), and he’s said I’m getting it after Christmas but before it officially becomes New Year’s Day. We’re planning a NYE date, and I told him that if he waits until then, it won’t be much of a surprise anymore b/c I’ll KNOW its happening that night. And he’s all, “yeah, but you won’t know WHEN! You’ll squirm and get excited every time I reach into my pocket!”
I told him, “No, I’ll just get closer and closer to hitting you over the head with a lawn ornament and yanking it out of there!” I’m not good with surprises, LOL.
