@atlbride2013:  really hoping you find something that works for you! I have a friend who suffered through this her entire pregnancy.. It was so awful, she doesn’t want to have another baby ever again. She was having to get fluids twice a week until the very end.

I havent been diagnosed, but I know my morning sickness has been way worse than I ever imagined/heard of. I am on zofran now (which comes with it’s own problems…) but without it, I couldn’t keep down any food/liquids, and I couldn’t even get out of bed. I am only 8 weeks 1 day and I already hate being pregnant. I can’t imagine doing this again, although I’m sure I will have to… Ugh.

It definitely helps me keep food down. I still feel nauseas sometimes, but I dont actually throw up on it (yet). However… this may be TMI, but it has caused severe constipation. Which hurts my stomach in a whole new way, lol. But I am with you, I was losing a lot of weight, so I guess this is the lesser of two evils. I really hope it works for you! B6 did nothing for me (nothing really did) but zofran has proven effective.

I had it throughout my entire pregnancy with my now 6 month old! It was terrible, just terrible. We switched meds around every few months, but I still threw up and felt like garbage my entire pregnancy. I think the worst things that would piss me off were people who were judgey about “putting medication in your body while pregnant” – it was like – well that, or I will just go die over here in the corner. Also people with great natural remedies like preg pops or some type of bracelet thing – like are you kidding me? And that people try to relate it to their regular run of the mill morning sickness. Um, no girlfriend. We’re not talking about the same thing here. Ugh. Hang in there! I won’t tell you it will get better, but I will say that some day you will give birth and then it will be over for suresies!

Yes hang in there. I was on a cocktail of zantac, diclectin and gravol and still could hardly keep anything down. But it did go away around 16 weeks and although I still take the zantac, I was able to cut back on diclectin and can eat almost normally. Bran muffins every single day, also…

I could go on a twelve hour rant about people who think normal morning sickness and hyperemesis are even comparable! It’s awful. Mine started at 6 weeks as well. I am 23 weeks and still get sick a couple times a week, but, hey, I’ll take it! I was on Zofran during the day and Promethazine at night (I still take the Promethazine-it keeps me from waking up sick and helps me sleep). Be careful with Zofran because you will get constipated. I had to take 2-3 stool softeners every day to be able to go to the bathroom every couple of days. Make sure you keep track of how often you go, I ended up in the ER once because I was impacted (TMI I know!), and being that uncomfortable can lead to you getting sick even more. For those that offer their words of encouragement and advice, know they mean well, say thanks and move on or explain it doesnt work. My best friend became my go to gripe person, I bitched to her about everyone and everything! She calls it “baby raging”- but it helps! Also, be careful to take care of your mental health as well. I was pretty depressed my first trimester because I was so miserable, and I didn’t feel like I was bonding with my baby. Know that is normal with hyperemesis! Just make sure your doctor knows everything. Good luck and I hope you get to feeling better! PM me if you ever want to just vent! Sometimes griping/laughing about it with someone that has been there can make the world of difference.

I was never diagnosed with it, but I was throwing up 4-5 times/day with crippling nausea from 6-22 weeks. It was horrific. I lost weight in my first trimester (not good as I was underweight to begin with) and didn’t start to put anything on until around 20 weeks, which is saying something with twins. It wasn’t anything like the morning sickness other people around me had experienced… I was sick all say, every day, and nothing helped. I probably should have been more forceful with the doctor in getting some nausea meds as I’m fairly sure I was massively dehydrated throughout my first trimester from all the puking. In the UK, they’re pretty strict on handing out meds unless you are VERY persistent. So… the doctor just told me to keep downing the water and ‘eat some popsicles’. He also signed me off of a week of work. Pfft… I could have decked him.

I’m sure your experience is even worse than that, though, which I find truly terrifying. I am so sorry you’re sick and hope it gets better ASAP. Hopefully the sickness phase will be strong but short. 🙂

Never officially diagnosed, but I lost 20lbs over my first trimester. Zofran was AMAZING for the first week, and then when I hadn’t pooped for 10 days, it was a disaster. I had to stop taking it entirely and get a prescription to get things flowing again. I used Diclegis after that, but I still threw up maybe 2x a day and was constantly nauseated. Good luck.

I was diagnoses with hyperemesis. Just like you, mine started at 6 weeks to the day. By 8 wks I had lost about 10 lbs and had been in and out of the ER. My Dr. prescribed a Zofran pump. It was an IV that was in my belly that I had to change around 2 times a day that delivered the zofran in the tissue of my belly and it got absorbed into my system. I also had a home health nurse that would come twice a week to hook me up to IV fluids. I was out of work for over 10 weeks. Right around 16 wks I woke up and felt “ok” it took me a few days to realize that the nausea I was now feeling may actually be hunger! I was able to lose the zofran pump around 17 weeks. I still took zofran pills or promethazine and ranatidine throughout the rest of my pregnancy and still had severe food aversions but over all felt “ok” From 20 weeks on. Overall I lost about 15 lbs, ended up gaining 25 total in my pregnancy though! My Dr would always reminded me that “the sicker the mother the healthier the baby” And we do have a happy, healthy 15 month old now! Even now, it is so hard to explain what I went through. People just don’t get it. I think my own mother even thinks I was over reacting and it was all in my head. People would also question my decision to take all these meds while pregnant. The only thing I can say is that without those meds, my pregnancy would not have been possible! Even with meds I could barely get out of bed to shower. The constipation was bad, but I didn’t really think about it much because I was so sick to my stomach and trying to focus on drinking fluids. We are now discussing trying for a second child and I’m honestly terrified. I was told by both my OB and fertility dr that it is more likely than not that I will develop it again. I’ve cried about it many times, knowing I want another baby, but not sure how I can survive it again, especially with a LO to take care of now. PLease know that you will get through it though and the prize at the end is the best gift you’ll ever receive. Good luck to you!
