I use the KP Duty lotion and scrub from Dermadoctor. It's a miracle product!
I have it. Even when I asked my dermatologist about it, she just recommended that I use over the counter products. She recommended that I use Eucerin. I forget to use it more than I remember, so I can't really tell you if it works or not.
My dermatologist recommended gentle exfoliation in the shower followed by U-Lactin lotion. That lotion has alpha-hydroxy or something in it. I don't use the lotion regularly enough, but exfoliation definitely helps.
I have severe KP on my arms and thighs - definitely not attractive for a boudoir session or strapless dress! My dermatologist suggested CeraVe, which is now OTC, and it helps reduce the redness A LOT! I'm still looking for a regimen that will help reduce the bumpiness as well.
I've heard mixed reviews on KP Duty, but never have used it myself...
I tried Eucerin and it didn't help much. I've used lachydrin (sp?) in the past and it didn't work well. Going to try Cerave first (cheaper) and then the KP Duty. Thanks!
I tried the KP duty stuff years ago (along with a bunch of other remedies), and none of them did a damn thing. Oh well. I've learned to live with it. Mine aren't that discolored, they're mostly just the bumps without much of a color difference.
the official medical response is prescription, high dose steroid cream, every day. alternatively, try these products http://www.mariobadescu.com/Keratosis-Pilaris-Treatment
It is VERY hard to get rid of it, it never really goes away just calms down a little. I've had it since childhood, I am getting married next November, and i've been using KP duty cream by Dermadoctor, you can get it at sephora. I've been using it everyday for about a month and Im noticing improvement. I also tried Pro-active wash and lotion...DID NOTHING.
If it won't go away, what I suggest, and what I am going to do is wear MAC face and body foundation on my arms. It is a water based VERY VERY sheer foundation made FOR the body, I use it ALL the time, it is transfer resistant (meaning it won't come off on clothes) I used to work for MAC, all the celebs use it, dancers, pagent girls, performers. You can use it on the legs and arms, anywhere. It is the best!
I have it too :( I hate it more than anything!! I've tried KP duty- no luck. I heard that epsom salt baths work (scub with the salts then soak for 20-30 minutes) but I just don't have time for that. I tried it for about a week and it seemed to help.
Now I'm using Paula's Choice beta hydroxy lotion and i'm seeing results in only 2-3 days. Hope it continues to improve, i'll keep you posted if it does!
If not I'll try the mac foundation!
I'm using KP duty. I've definitely seen some improvement, but it isn't totally gone.
I have it, and what works best for me is keeping hydrated with lotion. I am curious about this KP stuff. My best response would be to not let it ruin your strapless style. It is you. Your fiance loves you. It is what it is. We all have something. Try your best to not let it ruin Your day. :) Nobody else will worry about it :) LOVE IT. OWN IT!
I have it bad on my arms. It was the one thing I wanted to really get rid of before the wedding, but it is still there. I have tried everything -- KP Duty, exfoliating, AmLactin -- but nothing works for me. So I am just going to pretend it isn't there. :)
I agree Pinkdreamer! I used to be really self conscious when I was a teenager about it! I never knew what it was, and it bothered me a lot. Now i've learned to accept it. The KP stuff is great, it's a little pricey but it's has helped me the most out of everything, my skin is not as rough and bumpy, the redness hasn't gone away but the texture of my skin is much better!
I have it really badly on my arms as well (fulll arms!) so I talked to my doctor and she recommended using the exfoliation gloves that you can get at the pharmacy... scrub every day in the shower for at least 30 seconds per arm, dont rub it dry after a shower, just pat it dry, and then to use aveeno natruals unscented 24 hour daily moisturizer on it right out of the shower. It has made a HUGE difference on my arms, its cleared up on my forearms, and is now just on the back of my arms. She said if you stop the routine though, it will come back. It's still there, but not as noticeable as before... well worth it :)

I have it on my arms and upper back. Not so hot in my strapless dress. Has anyone had any luck with over the counter products. I will not have health insurance until after the wedding.
