Personally, I think every state should have this law.

At least all the states that border Mexico.

Absolutely not.  Although it is much improved today - thank you, Judge Bolton.

I want every state to have that law! I have nothing wrong with people coming to the US but do it legally!

Mollytov- The law only affects people who are not here legally.

Personally, I was upset when I saw this post.  I don't want politics mixed up in my supportive wedding planning community!  Political conversations get heated online, and WeddingBee is a soothing place for me.

    @mishelleez EXACTLY!!!

these people do NOTHING to contribute to our society they basically live off of our tax dollars and they just have anchor babies. these anchor babies should not get to go to public schools where their parents did nothign to contribute to that.

@AClaire: I agree with you. WeddingBee is my happy place...politics, religion and race get heated in any conversation especially online. Let's go back to dress, menu, cake, post-wedding chop polls! :) :) :)

Honestly I have to say I don't even know what the law is exactly. I live in CA and theres always people protesting about it (I guess because of our proximity- plus the SF bay area in CA is super liberal and kind of protest everything). So I can't honestly say (and know what I'm taking about) whether I'm against it or not. But, knowing that they say the reason they wanted to put this law into place is because a lot of AZ law officers disappear, I think it is fair and right for AZ to try and do something to protect their law officers.

Absolutly! I think (and this is just my opinion) people who are against it are either here illegally or have friends and family who are.

I feel very strongly about this since my FI had his identity stolen by an illegal Mexican. It has been a headache and he didn't even get deported wtf?

Other reasons I am for it:

    1. A town in Virginia had a thing where if you commited a crime they would check whether you are a citizen or not. This decreased their crime rates A LOT!

2.There are a lot of illegal immigrants here in Michigan (I know not as many as other places). I personally know of two incidences (which I'm about to share) that have been caused by illegal immigrants. One some very good friends of ours were at a stop light and an illegal immigrant came flying out of a parking lot crashing into them. Their car was totalled and the wife lost her baby. He apologized to them while they waited for the cops and then pretended to not understand english. Luckily one of the cops could speak spanish so there wasn't a temporary out for him.

The other one was an off duty cop. He was riding his motorcycle and was also stopped at a light when a drunk driver who is also an illegal immigrant bumped him. At first the guy was ok and he was starting to turn around and the driver panicked and continued to run him over. Needless to say the cop did not survive for he was run over and dragged a short distance.

3.There is some serious drug trafficing which leads to more crimes.

I have not heard a good reason for the opposing side. So if someone would like to nicely inform me that would be great. I am honestly curious what your stand is on it and why? Maybe I am not seeing what you see.

I agree with those who want to keep this off wedding bee - I know my posting here puts this back on the top of the boards - if any other bees are reading this an agree, I suggest not posting...let this die out and ignore it. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Well I'm a citizen and know no illegal immigrants and I'm against it, so I guess that theory of yours is flawed.

People are outraged because police can come up to anyone and demand to see proof of citizenship. Who are they going to ask? White people? No, they're going to target hispanics. That's racial profiling and it's discriminatory. That is the outrage.

This thread has the potential to get very hairy. Please ignore the OP as this is the same person that likes to stir the pot. Personally, I think these types of conversations should not take place in a wedding forum.

I didn't say my "theory" wasn't flawed and I also stated it was my personal opinion.

If the law was changed so that they had to do it to everyone it wouldn't be racial profiling. Hispanics aren't the only ones who come here illegally. So I agree with that. I feel that everyone should be checked into if they commit a crime.

It took me a while to write my previous comment so I didn't notice all the boycotts of this thread.

The idea that this law will only affect people who are in the country illegally is LAUGHABLE.  Before the court struck it down, the law allowed papers to be checked for anyone who is stopped for a crime--even if it is later determined that reasonable suspicion did not exist.  This means that ANYONE police thought "looked like" an illegal immigrant could be stopped on trumped up charges and have their papers checked.  It's like Nazi Germany but in a hotter and dryer climate.  It's disgusting.  And what exactly does an illegal immigrant look like?  I challenge you to tell me without saying anything racist.  You can't.

ETA: I know, I KNOW I shouldn't have said anything.  I just seriously couldn't let some of what was said stand unchallenged.

The law supports federal laws that are already in place - which state you have to carry your green card etc, and even US citizens usually know to carry some form of ID on their person. Plus it only affects people who have already been stopped by police for illegal/disruptive activites AND are here illegally.

If anyone is stopped taking their kids to get ice cream and they are here legally they can sue the police department, just as would happen in any other case of racial profiling.

NOOOOO!!! This law discriminates against people who are already in this country legally as well as American citizens.  Believe me, if there was a bill that discriminated against gun owners, or middle aged white guys everyone would be screaming their heads off that it was unconstituitional. Do Unto Others!!!

Of course I am in favor of the new law.  If the illegals don't like it they can leave.  I for one won't try to stop them.

Let me add that I am all for legal immigration and I do not discriminate against any nationality.  I just could care less about the feelings of illegals.  If they feel they are being discriminated against, they can become legal citizens or leave.

I have tried to be good and kept my mouth shut but this post is the last straw. I've seen this chick around and she is TROLL. She starts things up and then never comes back to them which is very troll-like behavior. Her account should be deactivated so she doesn't stir up trouble in this otherwise happy environment.
