I'm not job hunting now, but I was when we got engaged. Its just awful, but it all eventually works out. Good luck finding a job that is perfect for you!
DH has a low paying job at Target but he's been interviewing for better government jobs.
Honestly not even an engineering degree and 4 years in the military is helping him, so I can only imagine how hard it is for 90% of the people job hunting!!!!
I hope you get the derm job =]. I personally think skin stuff is SO cool and used to want to be a dermatologist. Until i learned how extremely competitive it is =\
I'm currently job hunting in the Poconos since that is where my FI lives. Unfortunately, the job prospects up there are dim. Luckily I have a job now, it's just that we currently live two and a half hours apart. I can't live with him until I find a job up there. So far, I've only received one phone call back after a few months of submitting resumes.
The other day I heard an ad on the radio for a radio station that needed Account Executives. I called and they called me back. I especially liked the fact that I got to speak to someone, because usually you submit a resume online and never hear back. Well, the woman was really nice and even offered to meet me on a Saturday so I didn't have to take a day off from work. We meet and talk and the interview seemed to go well. Then she says that they aren't actually hiring. Hmmm....then I wondered why they had the ad on the radio if they weren't hiring.
Best of luck with the job at the dermatologist's office. Let us know what happens!
I am! I just finished my master's degree program and now I'm on the market. I've had two really promising interviews, and I'm just dying waiting to hear the results. I cannot wait to get hired!!! If you have seen my blog posts at all, I've mentioned a few times that between the wedding, the increased cost of living from moving to Boston, and me being out of work, Mr. Octo and I have just been unbelieeeeevably broke this year. I'm so sick of it. I told my sister the other day, I want a salary again so bad I can taste it. Good luck to all of you in the same situation, fingers crossed for us all!
I quit my job 2 months ago (extreme stress, crappy management, etc) but had to go back at the beginning of June because I couldn't find anything else that I was able to do and that would pay as well as my other job (not high-paying by any means but it's a little better than minimum wage). The plan this time is to keep looking for a new and better job while I'm working at my current one. I took a break from jobhunting the past two weeks while I get back in the swing of my old job, but I'm going to start looking again now. I've only been back at work two weeks and I'm already getting frustrated with it.
Good luck with the dermatologist job! I'll be hoping you get a call soon! :)
I am. I have applied to nearly a hundred jobs and haven't even landed an interview. It's really beginning to wear on me... I had to move back in with my parents and all I do is fill out applications. 'm beginning to feel like going to college was a waste of time...i could have been building up more work experience, and most of the jobs i've applied to only require a HS diploma...
I am, and I definitely feel you and everyone else is searching. I was hoping to make a little bit of money to save up for when I go back to school in the fall, but I live in a pretty small town and there just aren't a lot of places hiring. Or, if they are hiring, they want someone who is going to stay on long term. I've been looking for a month now, and it's discouraging!
Ugh I feel you guys. Good luck to everyone... I definitely know what you mean by wondering if college was a waste. So many people are getting out of college and now we're just trying to get hired anywhere even if it has nothing to do with the degree.
I was for the past 6 months! Found something finally!
UGH.... the one depressing aspect of my life. My fiance and I are both teachers and recently relocated from Memphis to our hometown of Chicago. We missed our families A LOT and decided that location was more important than our jobs.... opps. Luckily, he was recently hired but I'm still looking. It's really stressful considering we are paying for our wedding and budgeted based on our salaries. The Illinois teaching job market is very bleak right now : (
Ugh...me! I just finished my master's degree this week so I'm on the market and nobody wants to hire a new grad! I have a feeling this may be a long process and I'm not looking forward to it. Good luck to everyone who's looking!
my fiance is looking and looking for months. He is getting really frustrated. Luckily he still has his current job, which isn't what he loves, but it pays the bill for now! Good luck to everyone looking!
We both just wrapped up our job hunts, and will be starting up in the next couple of weeks. He wasn't planning on leaving his job, but it ended up working out for the best after a long search.
Best of luck to everyone, we have felt your pain lately!
Yeah, I'm in that club too. I've been looking since January. Good luck to all!!!
Good luck to all you bees!
I got an email on Friday saying that the position I interviewed for a month ago was filled with another candidate (no surprise there), but that they had an even better position open that the operations manager thinks I'd be ideal for. I didn't hear from him so I finally just stopped in their offices, and the manager of the department the job is in was totally shocked that the operations manager had emailed me since he's not ready to even begin the hiring process for another month yet! So there is not actually a job right now and when there will be, it sounds like the dept manager wants to do full rounds of interviews again... oh and they forgot to mention it's part time. The department manager is going to talk to the operations manager (who was out sick) and they'll get back to me. I'm so frustrated because the email was so promising and made it sound like the job is mine if I want it. Why did the operations manager even bother emailing me in the first place, and if they are this shoddy with communication now, am I going to get anywhere if I am hired? Ugh. I am so fed up, but I really do need a job.
I hear everyone too. I'm trying to get a job in KC, so that my FH and I can NOT be long distance. Apartment places won't take us without jobs, and jobs won't take us without places to live! It's SO frustrating. We're going to have to end up having his parents on the lease with us just so we can actually live somewhere!
College is great and all, but it doesn't mean that people still aren't looking for experience. Um, sorry...I've been in school for the last 4 years...

Job hunting is so stressful! We just moved into our area and I'm pretty sure that most people around the country know that Detroit isn't doing so hot in terms of the job market. Good thing I live in metro-Detroit, right?? I've applied to sooo many jobs and despite having plenty of experience and having gone to college, let me tell you.. it isn't easy!
Today I went in to hand in my resume at a dermatologist's office.. Seemed to go well, I got to speak with the manager and get a tour of the place, meet the doctor and nurses, and they had me sit at the front desk for awhile to get the feel for things. I'm going to be bummed if I don't get the job after they had me do all of that, it definitely got my hopes up.
Any other bees job hunting out there? I'm sure others can relate to the feeling. Who in their right mind actually enjoys an interview anyway? lol
