I’m asking b/c my poor FI’s summer schedule is crazy busy. He has work, class, and research and often leaves home at 8:00 only to return at around 11:00 that night. Well, Monday was his birthday and on Tuesday, he was so bummed that he didn’t get to celebrate at all and that his days were so long and that everything was so sucky…
I couldn’t help myself. I sent him a pizza at 10:30 at night for him to have for dinner. When he found out, I could literally hear the smile in his voice over the phone – and nothing could have made me feel better.
Anyone know what I mean – hearing a smile?

Yes. I totally get that. I love it when that happens 🙂 I love that we know them so well that we can tell right away when they do!

I’m no LDR, but I love hearing it, too! Makes my heart beat just a bit faster…

Not LDR but one of my favorite things is when my Fiance and I are in talking at night in bed and it’s to dark to see him smile. Sometimes I hear the click his cheeks make when he’s smiling huge though and it’s like a neon light goes off in my heart spelling LOVE.

My FH and I were in an LDR for about a year and I know exactly what you are talking about. I hated that time in our relationship because I was always so sad without him, but your post just made me smile thinking about the little things we did have even when we were apart.
You are so sweet for thinking of him. Thanks for sharing!

I do. I love hearing him smile. It sounds weird but I love it.

Gosh I know what you mean. Those moments are what help you get through the hardest parts of LDRs. Tonight Darling Husband and I were on the phone chatting while having the webcam on (yeah, I know we could do skype, but I hate the sound quality through the computer). Well, he was being a punk and teasing me, so I took my bluetooth off and threw it at the webcam. He started laughing hysterically at this and even though I couldn’t hear him at the moment, just seeing him laugh was amazing. During our first 10 months, he was in Iraq and I didn’t have a webcam at the time. I really have no idea how I survived not “seeing” him for that long. Now I get cranky if I don’t get to see him on the webcam everyday! lol

Absolutely! LDR girls are tuned into things like hearing a smile. Sometimes I feel silly telling my girlfriends that videochatting makes a huge difference over phone calls, but it DOES! Being able to see him while we talk is almost like he’s right there with me. It’s the little things, and you’ve got to relish in them!
