Me!!! No idea. I just love it!!! My FH told me he would upgrade my ring for our 10 year anniversary, and I said No, Thank you!!  Granted, my ring is an heirloom, it was my grandma’s and it is beautiful!!

@adillon1:  Thank you! All of the diamonds were reset from her ring, so I just can not imagine, ever, getting “rid’ of those to upgrade. It just doesn’t matter to me.  The symbolism of the ring mattered to me, but that was about it!!

Your ring is gorgeous! ๐Ÿ™‚  Glad there are a few of us that just love our ring.

@adillon1:  I do know, but only because I went it and had the appraisal done for it. When I was looking at them I was looking more at the settings for the ring and I also thought the other C’s were more important than the carat size!

It’s printed on the inside of my ring, so I can’t not know.

@adillon1:  just out of curiousity, do you not have your ring insured then if neither of you remember?  To get my ring insured, I had to bring in the paper work from the appraisal my FI got when he bough the ring so they could take copies of it… So regardless of whether I wanted to know or not, I would’ve found out then.   But I wanted to know anyways lol… well I didn’t specifically ask the carat size.. at dinner after he proposed i just said “so tell me about my ring!”  I wanted to know where he got it, how long he had it, how he chose it etc and he just openly told me the carat size

@redness82:  Your ring is BEAUTIFUL!!  was the ring itself an heir loom or the diamond? If the ring was, wow!! I thought that style was a newer trend!  I agree, I wouldn’t upgrade at ten years!  I am IN LOVE with my ring, and any other ring he buys me down the road, while special, could never replace my engagement ring.  My engagement ring will ALWAYS be my engagement ring, the one he got down on one knee with when we were young and still figuring our lives out…  I will cherish it forever

@MrsPhilly:  Thank you!! Just the diamonds are reset!  The original was… well, for the lack of better words… ugly (even my mom said so!!)!  We had the main diamond and the side diamonds reset into platinum.  LOVE IT!  Technically, it is a custom made ring, but I based it off a certain style.

@MrsPhilly:  Yes, I had to have the appraisal to have it insured, but that was seriously right away, and I don’t remember. I have not had ANYBODY ask how big the ring was.

I don’t know exactly how much mine is – not much, obviously! But I love it ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s an antique, and the person who sold it to us said it was 0.25 carats or less, total. There’s no centre stone, as you can see. The design was much more important to FI and me.

@redness82:  No you’re absolutely right!! I have never had anyone ask me how big it was, except maybe my sister but even then I’m not sure.. I know we’ve discussed rings and carat size because she’s hoping to be engaged asap… so we talk about wedding stuff all the time.  if people are asking carat size, they’re not getting the point!! lol  I just know mine bc he offered up the info.  Altho i probably would’ve asked if he hadn’t.  Not because it needs to be a certain size, but I just wanted ot know every detail of my ring!

@adillon1:  I know the size of my diamond, but my fiance and I shopped for the ring together. I also saw the appraisal information, but that wasn’t a big deal since I already knew how much he paid for it, the size, color, etc.

I don’t think it’s weird that you don’t know what size it is, though.  Every couple is different, and I’m sure if my fiance had chosen a ring on his own, I wouldn’t know a lot of that information.

To answer your poll question, no carat size wasn’t that important to me.  I didn’t want a teeny tiny diamond, but I wasn’t like, “Oh, it must be at least X carats,” when we were choosing the ring.  For me, color, clarity, and cut were much more important than size.  I love my ring, and that’s all that matters!  Smile

I love that you have an emerald cut!  That’s my absolute favorite, and it’s what I have as well:

I love seeing other emerald cut rings on the boards!
